  1. As pathetic as this may sound, at this point, I am willing to be pathetic. "Please Mr. Warren Buffett sir.... I am begging you to take just what would be a half a pocket of change for you, and put 10 million or 20 million into some kind of interest bearing account for the sole purpose to be given to UNL as a private donation to be strictly used on football coaches salaries to help us sway one of the top 3 head coaches (college) in the country if not THE top coach in the country for years to come! The fans deserve no less and I am sure if many in Husker Nation were capable of doing so, they would have done this already! I refuse to believe that Nebraska Football is headed to irrelevancy! The tradition built over the last 5 plus decades is just too impressive to allow to be thrown away as if it was an accomplishment to only be known about and appreciated by 3 or 4 more generations of fans! After watching ESPN yesterday after the game with Mark May and Lou Holtz in a mock court like setting in front of a mock judge, who said and I quote, "Let's face it, Nebraska football and it's HC job isn't what it once use to be....." It at first made me mad, but then it quickly turned to sadness! It will only be sad if we allow something as this guy has described to happen, when we could easily stop such a thing from happening!
  2. Dang! Really? How fast news travels!
  3. Former Husker great Mike Rozier's Nissan Heisman Commercial is great! It's also great to see Mike looking so good! Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfklelmnvIY
  4. Surprisingly, what I've learned from today's game is that, I am no where near as nervous when the offense takes the field and Armstrong is the QB, than I am when the offense takes the field and Martinez is the QB? It seems Tommy makes good decisions, plays within the system and himself and doesn't try to do too much and turn the ball over like Taylor tends to do... although, this year he is better in this area.
  5. I have let things sink in since the UCLA loss and have been reading everyone's opinions on what the causes are and what the remedy is and there is a lot to take in and digest. The solution to these big game collapses is not simple as everyone knows but I do think there are a couple things needing change that stand out to me, as the biggest pieces to the puzzle. Although, JP is a puppet of Bo per say, I don't think he cuts the mustard as a DC and I think Bo either needs to become HC/DC or hire a proven DC (if possible since most proven guys wont make a lateral move) and pay him like Beck is being paid. Although Bo is still involved in the Defense, it's obvious it's not enough! Second, if the team losses it's ability to execute fundamentals when things get tough, then that's a mental prep thing, and Bo needs to change something in how the team prepares for such instances. I know this may sound too simple or something to be considered way down the list of priorities but I think it's a key part of reaching the top, and sometimes what's missing is found in unexpected places. Do the Huskers have a team psychiatrist like they did under Osborne? If not, why not? If so, what is his role and is it a big enough of a role? I remember the Psychiatrist under Osborne had a significant role in helping players get their "heads in the right place". TO has talked about how much it had helped to have the Dr. involved with the team? It seems, we have the physical talent on the field to hang with anyone, so what is left? Mental part of the game! What Bo is doing IS NOT and HAS NOT worked! I'm not saying he should stop anything he is doing, like asking for accountability as a team, and naming captains early, to give players a sense of responsibility to oversee the team and police it themselves, but maybe just a little something extra needs to be added to get the players a tougher mentality, one that instills anything came be overcome and with heart and will, it will be overcome! Not some of the time, but all of the time!
  6. NU - 48 WYO - 20 Nebraska: Rushing: 305 yds. Passing: 295 yds.
  7. Zack Darlington Committed to the HUSKERS !! Where are you now 11WBuckeye5? Get your Butt in here and eat some crow Bee-yatch!!
  8. If choice is based on how your question is worded: "Who do you want to win that matchup - Rex or Suh?" I'd say I'd like to see Rex win out!
  9. For me, the answer depends all on the play scenario? If it's an in-game type match-up coupled with the way the poll is worded like, "Rex puts a move on Suh", which tends to make it sound like the point of contact is either in the open field or where there is at least room for Rex to maneuver away from Suh's tackle and "Suh tackles a "wily" Rex Burkhead", which makes the scenario play out about the same as the first choice? Wow... tough decision here. I'd have to say Rex wins 6 to 7 times out of 10 in the open field in a game type of scenario. Play stays between the tackles or doesn't bounce outside then Suh wins majority! If you are talking a straight up one-on-one type drill, with boundaries and limitations, then I would go with Suh to win out 8 to 9 times out of 10!
  10. I respect all opinions regarding D Scheme, because in truth, everybody is right in part. Having said that, we still run a 4-3 D like McBride did during the 90's, (although the current version is used differently than it was back then and today's talent level and speed (OVER-ALL) is a notch below what it was back then, but not far off I believe especially this coming season), so why the big discrepancy between the two era's overall game day performance? I believe it's a difference in each coaches philosophy in how to implement their scheme on game day. Bo expects his D-Line to perform at a high level and get pressure on the QB themselves and disrupt running lanes, requiring less blitz packages during a game, allowing the LB to come up and plug holes where needed to stop the run and allow the secondary to be free to cover the deep threat, make plays on the ball and beat the offensive guy more times than not? Watching game film from the 90's, McBride blitzed a lot more, and used it from every position. LB Blitzes, Corner blitzes, etc.... and the Huskers also played man to man a lot with our d guys up on the line of scrimmage, jamming up the receivers from getting off the snap cleanly, holding up their routes and therefore disrupting the timing of the offense. Bo doesn't do this very often... he plays a more straight up D with the D-line playing further off the line of scrimmage than you will normally see and expects players to perform like they are expected to, but the problem is, our D-Line performance hasn't held up their part of the plan, in order to make Bo's scheme effective! I believe lack of adjustment during games soon enough, is a major factor in our losses. Except for the games, that the team basically gave up in, like the BIG 10 championship game against Wisconsin, and the lack luster effort at Ohio St. as the game went on, adjusting sooner in the game could have changed a L into a W! Remember the game when Pelini had to leave early for medical reasons, and Coach JP took over, after Bo left JP got more aggressive on D and Blitzed a little more and put more pressure on the other teams offense! It worked beautifully and we got a big W! Bo knows what he is doing, and he is correct in saying his scheme works but if the players aren't able to implement it on the field like it needs to be to be effective, then a change in mind-set and making adjustments need to come sooner IMO?
  11. Martinez had the most turnovers (20 himself) on the team. As bad as that is, it's much worse in my opinion because he had many more fumbles than the official 20 lost because the Huskers recovered a high percentage of his fumbles... in my opinion, turnovers are the single biggest issue by far needing fixed going into this 2013 season! Stupid self-inflicted penalties due to lack of discipline/focus are second on the list IMO. If we can cut our T.O. margin by 2/3 this year, I think it would equal to another 2 wins on the year? Note: Martinez did do a much better job not fumbling against the Georgia Bulldogs... I noticed he covered the ball up using both arms when running and engaged in contact! He needs to protect that ball with both hands when running, especially at first when contact is most likely to happen, and then once in the open field, when he wants to turn on the jets, he can transfer the ball to whichever hand he wants and take it home!
  12. In response (to Fowler) whom I respect, I understand what your saying as well, but where our line of thinking on recruiting differs, I believe, is on the value of our home state talent. I know there are always going to be higher rated position players from around the country ie; the 1st, 2nd, maybe 3rd highest rated players on the Husker board you are referring to. But, my point is unless every one of those higher rated guys are 5 stars, which we all know they aren't and most likely none are rated 5 stars, then this home town kid should be offered because more than likely, he has grown up a Husker fan and having done so, gives him the bigger heart to perform as a Husker and develop into that Husker All-American or All Conference 1st team player we have so often seen in the past! Bottom line, in MY OPINION is, this kid is worth the scholarship taken up that the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd better rated players that sit higher on our recruiting board are! Husker history has shown that the Nebraska kid growing up idolizing the Huskers and have been dreaming of playing for the Huskers all their lives, many times turn out to be one of the best players on the team year in and year out! It's a proven fact, with years of proof! Look at Jake Long for example... this guy was a walk-on and not as highly thought of as Harrison Phillips coming out of high school but has turned into one of our best 0-lineman on the team if not the best! Plus this kid (Phillips) is as athletic as they come with his performance scores that he recently posted!
  13. Because other than K-State, no other major schools have offered. So they are waiting to see what the competition level to get him will be. I highly doubt this is true. This staff has clearly made offers to other kids without waiting to gauge "competition". The lack of an offer at this point indicates to me that either the coaches want to see more (at camp this summer or on the field this fall) or they have other prospects rated higher at his position and want to see how it goes with the plan A kids first. This is my guess. As an in-state prospect, I think they have more time to evaluate other prospects without worrying about losing out on Phillips. I understand what you are saying, but if this is true, then this is disturbing! We should never treat any in-state player any differently than any other recruit! I think it shows a hint of disrespect and arrogance on the programs part to do so. The concept of being able to wait because a kid is from Nebraska is ridiculous to me! Get the kid on board and seal the deal! One less recruiting worry there is. A 3 star in state kid who has the heart to be a husker is equal or probably better than a high profile 4 star recruit for sure and maybe the rare 5 star rated players who are more likely to be more so about themselves and their own future than the teams! We have seen a bit of this the last 2 years with linemen leaving because they weren't GIVEN the starting job but rather had to earn it!
  14. I can't believe Nebraska hasn't offered this kid yet? It's frustrating that we don't seal the deal on our home state talent early on before others nationally get into the mix!? He's a champion wrestler and although Phillips is a D-lineman, I specifically remember John Garrison recently giving a scholarship offer to a O-line recruit who hasn't played football very long but is a champion wrestler where he's from because, according to Garrison, wrestlers use their hands well and they have quick feet which can easily be used to turn a raw kid into an excellent lineman. With that said.... what the hell are we waiting for?
  15. Unfortunately I am out of state at this time otherwise I would have been there. Ugh! Doubt we b lucky enough to have anyone who got it on video willing to post highlights either? What a bummer... Oh well.
  16. I quit reading after the word 'seen' Thus the heavy disclaimer I made first and foremost in the post! Every post in here has been nothing more than speculation at best, and I figured I'd throw in the claim I read online about Heard going to a Texas school. I'm sure it's 100% BS but on the 1% off chance that it isn't, I posted it?
  17. Sounds like a good time to me! I'd be game for such an event!
  18. NOTE: THE FOLLOWING INFO. HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED AS FAR AS I KNOW. What I seen a couple weeks ago is unfounded rumor with no foundation I'm sure... I can't even remember where I seen it, but the article speculated that Heard was most likely heading to a school in Texas? No clue why a Texas school but I want to say either TCU or UTEP? I almost certain it said TCU, but why or how he became interested in either of these schools, or any school in Texas is beyond me other than due to a personal relationship he could have built with someone on the staff or team? I'm sure this in nothing more than wild speculation
  19. Although I should know this already and am embarrassed to even ask, I never did catch the reason why spring practice is starting so early this year? Can anyone fill me in? Is it what the coaches wanted or something forced on them for some reason?
  20. From what Damon Benning says, who is a high school football coach in the Omaha Metro, the talent level in Omaha is dramatically on the upswing and next years recruiting class of Omaha mtero players should be bigger as compared to the previous few years! Just need to listen to his daily radio show on 1620 am the Zone, Sharpe and Benning show. You can stream it live on the net for those who live out of state or even in state and aren't near the Omaha area!
  21. He hasn't answered my question yet? Who is the badest or toughest man on the team both on and off the field and it can be 2 different people?
  22. This new rule is bad all the way around! Too many variables to be making such a decisive decision in game! Look at the Kenny Bell hit against Wisconsin... he would have been ejected and replay shows it was a clean hit without a doubt! Even the announcers disagreed with the call!
  23. Oh man... so sad to hear! R.I.P. Kenny!
  24. lmao! Hey it isn't all that whacky of a thought!
  25. Wow! The dude is thinking the same as me, and I was apprehensive about posting it! lol! But i agree, Bill Callahan would be a good recruiter, but I heard he is being promoted to offensive coordinator in the NFL?
