  1. Hope Jakob gets a good scholarship offer. I've seen the Tanagers play in the dome quite a few times--many years ago, that is. I lived in Vermillion for a couple years, back in the Gateway Computer days. Good luck in the playoffs!
  2. I ended up getting a new dog a couple days ago. A rescue dog from the Humane Society. He's about a year old, just past the puppy stage. Here he's working on a rawhide bone on the couch in my office. edit: Humane, not Human Society. lol
  3. The best year for cornerbacks in Husker history was 2001: Dejuan Groce, Keyuo Craver and Erwin Swiney on the roster as juniors and seniors. All three NFL caliber.
  4. I took my dog to work with me every day. She was my constant companion for nearly nine years. She died last week. I am bummed out.
  5. 2015 Illinois, 14-13. We led 13-0 going into the 4th quarter. Late in the 4th quarter we still had a six point lead. Then we threw an incomplete pass on 3rd down, stopping the clock with about a minute left. The punt gave Illinois the ball on their 28 yard line with 51 seconds on the clock. They drove down the field through our Swiss cheese defense, and threw a 22 yard TD pass with 10 seconds on the clock for the win. Aside from incompetence on the field, this was the first game I took my young son to. It rained. We lost. Worst. Game. Ever.
  6. Legend. On Netflix right now. The movie is based on the real-life gangster twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray. Better than Good Fellas, imho. NSFW language. Lots of F-bombs in this clip. But with that British accent they just don't seem profane.
  7. 新年快乐!

  8. We're doing with electric cars what we did with manufacturing in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. We're sending the dirty part of the process elsewhere. And pretending it doesn't exist. When EPA, OSHA and labor unions became too onerous for U.S. manufacturing 40 years ago, we started sending nearly all of our manufacturing overseas. The environmental impact on the U.S. was great. No more dirty manufacturing plants in America! But the net effect on the world wasn't so great. Think about how much more world pollution is caused by shipping raw materials to China where there are lax environmental laws, then shipping the finished goods back to the U.S. (Why don't people ever talk about this??) It's the same with electric cars. If you only consider the car itself, sure it's much cleaner. But if you consider the generation, transmission and storage of electricity it probably causes even more pollution for the world than what we have now. And that's not even considering the manufacturing and disposal of batteries. You can't just crush a battery, melt it down and make a new one like you can with a gas burning car engine. That said, I want an electric car. They're so cool, and it would make me feel better about myself! And my farts would smell good! (Just like with hybrids 20 years ago.) LINK
  9. Best title of any of the 5,000 recipes you've posted!
  10. Are electric cars greener? The answer depends largely on the source of electricity. Since solar is a small player in the U.S., and we're getting away from wind generated electricity, I guess in the U.S. the answer is "NO". And then there's the issue of battery disposal. But that opens another can of worms.
  11. Not a Netflix or Hulu thing, but the film "Saint Ralph" is on Youtube. Here: LINK It's an excellent movie, IMHO. Highly recommend.
  12. ALL Northwestern fans are upset. This would have been the first undefeated season in the history of Wildcat football.
  13. I asked whether hospitals were receiving a payment for reporting Covid-19 deaths in a status. I asked this because of the sketchy circumstances surrounding the sole Covid-19 death in the town where I live. I was told hospitals do receive a payment.
  14. I've not seen that Fox New video. And I haven't watched even one minute of Fox News in over two years. But nice try.
  15. I was responding to a poster who asked a question. This line of conversation came from a status in which I pointed out that a 50-something year old woman in my town was on hospice care, dying from cancer. She had a heart attack at home and was resuscitated. They took her to the hospital where she died. The hospital reported it as a Covid-19 death. Is this a case of over-reporting?
  16. If the government pays a stipend to hospitals for Covid deaths, then hospitals will liberally report Covid deaths. You realize that's pretty much how all people and organizations operate, right? If something is incentivized, it will tend to increase.
  17. Ha ha! That's exactly what I was thinking. On the far side it seems like they have people far enough to the right (even with the top of the down ramp) that there wouldn't be a problem. But some of those folks on the near side have more faith in the guy than I would.
  18. No front page banner for Cerni??  Punters get no respect.

  19. They come in different sizes. The one I have is smaller than those shown in Knap's video above. It wouldn't produce enough light for a porch.
  20. This is comparing apples to oranges since (presumably) the car would have killed her anyway. A better example would be pneumonia. Quite a few patients with serious illnesses have pneumonia at their end stage. Was it the pneumonia that killed them, or the underlying disease? Do hospitals record the cause of death as a pneumonia death? But the real point I made in that status that apparently got your goat is that, while I suspect there is some under-reporting of Covid-19 deaths, I'd guess there's probably even more over-reporting. Any time there's money involved it skews the statistics. If hospitals are getting additional funds for Covid-19 deaths, then the numbers will be inflated somewhat. We may never end up with accurate counts of the Covid-19 deaths--except for the comparison with normal death rate statistics. And even those will be affected somewhat by the shutdown and alteration of normal activities for the past couple of months.
  21. ha ha! Yeah, they are pretty cool. A client gifted me one just a couple weeks ago for a project we're working on.
  22. Gee whiz. Thanks for using small words so the humble rabble like myself can feebly attempt to understand the wisdom of your superior intellect.
  23. Looks like they found the right trainer. I LIKE some of those exercises!
