  1. maybe that means that he is moving to Phoenix The Griffin was the half eagle, half lion. The Phoenix was reborn of it's own ashes. Ha ha. My bad. Maybe I should have taken a mythology class at UNL. It would have been more fun than calc 208. Probably more useful too.
  2. Athletically, Thenarse is incredibly gifted. NFL caliber gifted. But the word is, he has problems knowing where to be. Sometimes Rickey gets caught out of position. If Thenarse hit the playbooks during his injury year then he will be the man at FS. If not, well, I don’t think Bo has much patience for guys who don’t know what going on (Hagg could slide over into FS). At SS I think it’s Hagg’s job, assuming Thenarse plays FS, with P.J. Smith nipping at his heels for PT at strong.
  3. Never say never. The QBs down on the depth chart are just a couple of ACLs away from being the man.
  4. That’s right. This rule is petty and stupid. It will be easy for teams to work around it. In the meantime, UT gets shafted. Oh, not that it bothers me for UT to get shafted. But the rule is kinda unfair to Tejas University. HA ha! (in Nelson Muntz voice)
  5. Be warned: The Griffin is known to rise from its own ashes.
  6. So you are going to be a Husker fan, eh? Do you have a corncob pen? Ha ha. Just kidding. If you know the two-deep before Western Kentucky rolls into Lincoln then you are a Husker fan. GBR!
  7. Funny stuff Carl. Better just head back to Bourbon Street instead.
  8. I would love to see Collins Okafor have a great year and silence all the naysayers. But I ain’t holding my breath. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was gone by the spring game.
  9. Nebraska - duh Iowa St – Okay, quit laughing. It could happen. Clowns play everyone in B12 North at Ames (except CU), and they catch TT wi new coach at home too. Mizzou - Gary Pinkel will win 7 games and keep his job for another year. Kansas St – Granny Snyder is going have to win a couple of road games for this to happen. Kansas – Welcome back to the Big 12 Turner. Colorado – They will suck. Really suck. Last hoorah for Hawky in Boulder.
  10. San Diego State or maybe UNLV would be logical choices. NU or CU joining the PAC 10 is just silly talk. Ultimately the PAC 10 will not add any other team. This conference realignment talk happens every offseason.
  11. Plus we got three guys coming out of their RS year——Dijon Washington, Lazarri Middleton and Andrew Green. Thenarse and Blue back from injury. We gonna be loaded with DBs. Might see more of those one-LB and no-LB sets we saw in the Holiday Bowl.
  12. Oh sure the D-lineman got all the ink this past season. (That hardly ever happens.) And Suh is all world, all everything. But look at the all-star defensive backfield we had: CB: Prince is a NFL caliber lockdown corner. Heck, Gomes would start in nearly any other B12 backfield. CB: Dennard was a rock solid performer. Rock solid. And only a soph. And playing opposite Prince! FS: O'Hanlon. This is why we have a walk-on program in the first place. So we can find guys like Matty once in a blue moon. SS: Asante. Can you remember a strong safety who can lay the wood better than Asante? Sure, maybe a couple of hits were borderline. Well, that’s because ball carriers start sliding about 2 yds earlier when Asante closes in. A great defensive backfield helps out the D-line tremendously. And vice versa. Make no mistake, our D-line was GREAT. But our DBs may have been just as good in their own right. Maybe even better. And next year our defensive backfield will be better yet. 10X better.
  13. This Nobler kid is just the kind of secret weapon we need to jumpstart our offense. Maybe we can get him some early PT fielding punts for us.
  14. Naw—this is better than I would have expected from KU *football* fans. You gotta consider, football did not exist in any recognizable form at KU until just a few years back. Poking around the site, Turner Gill did a fine job on the LOI presser. Gill is more well spoken than any Husker coach I can remember. (I never heard the Bobfather speak.)
  15. didn't he live with bo in 2003? Wait, I thought it was Mark Mangino who lived in Stoops basement? I’ll bet it was Carl who actually lived with Stoops. And somebody saw Carl’s waterbed in the basement and thought the waterbed was Mangino.
  16. Another reason for NU’s great bowl attendance is the weather. Quite a few Nebraskans attend bowl games because they are generally located in fair weather cities that are good vacation destinations. But I guess that doesn't explain the rabid Husker fans spread throughout the U.S.
  17. A pal of mine quit cold turkey. He used an egg timer to do it. He claimed that when you first quit you get an overwhelming urge to have a smoke, but the urge passes in a couple of minutes. Whenever he got the urge he would pull out his little hour glass egg timer and watch the sand for a minute or so until the urge passed. After a couple of weeks the urge got weaker (or his resolve got stronger), and he didn’t need the crutch any more. Kind of a weird idea, huh?

    Hockey

Blackhawks fan here. They are kicking ass this year.
  19. No gov’t support for UT athletics?? Pffffft. The state of Tejas granted a couple of million acres of worthless West Texas land to UT way back whenever. Then they struck oil. The proceeds from this--the Permanent University Fund (PUF)--gave the Whornes the largest endowment of any public school in America. I'd say that is quite a bit of support.
  20. The hottest hotbed of football recruiting isn't in one of the 50 states. 20 Samoan NFL players is statistically incredible.
  21. Sure the high profile guys are great, Chase Rome, Brion Carnes, Heard, Cooper, blah, blah. But I like to guess which sleepers will be big hits—--the under-the-radar guys who might emerge. I’m excited about Harvey Jackson (kind of a 'known' sleeper) and look for him to get on the field early on special teams. Maybe this season. Another guy I like is Jay Guy. I could see him breaking into the DT rotation season after next, 2011. Jay has a head start being on campus already. One other guy that intrigues me is Kenny “Supercharger” Bell. Looks good on paper, but he is a complete unknown--for me anyway. I wonder if we’ll give Supercharger a look at WR. Our receiving corps needs some help. Lots of help.
  22. 100% agreement. The Pelinis generally seem to be pretty good out of getting guys to contribute. But what they are doing with Latravis-—or not doing with him-—is perplexing to me. GET THE GUY ON THE FIELD! Either side of the ball. Or even special teams. Let’s see what he’s got.
  23. I am glad to see this thread. I’m a fan of LaTravis, and glad to see him get some props. It is a shame we have not been able to put his skills to use on the field. Seems like we could find someplace for him. He could probably play a half dozen different positions.
  24. Mike looks a look like big brother Bob. Less a few lbs maybe. Stoops on the hot seat just last year, a loss or two from being canned. Glad to see him doing better this year. But I hope his run of success, for this season anyway, is over.
