  1. I don't understand the point of this thread. A few others have hit it on the head. Is there a team out there that strives to win anything less than a MNC? Hell, even the UTC Mocs field a team every year with the ultimate goal of winning a championship. No coach or starting QB is going to say "our goal this year is to provide entertainment to our crowds, and hopefully we meet the budget," but this is what 98% of teams in D-1A are actually doing. The kid probably didn't nail it grammatically, but it's pretty obvious what his intentions were.
  2. Watched the 2010 Big 12 Championship game from the meat rack at The Seville in Minneapolis, MN (if you're not familiar, google it). Was there for a bachelor party and went to the Vikings game the next day. Can't say I didn't enjoy watching a game over the shoulder of some young lady, although the final outcome of the game was not what I was hoping for. The rest of the night made up for it though. Spent a week's worth of pay up there.
  3. They are talking about it rather extensively on Sports Nightly with Jeff Callhain (sp?). Sounds as good as gone, according to every source that he has mentioned, even talking to a beat writer for the Aggies.
  4. Seriously? You're going to carry this into another thread? Just leave it in the Bubba Starling thread josh. I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with josh. If he is going to play football, play football. I can't believe Bo is letting him do this to be quite honest.
  5. Don't troll. We don't tolerate trolls here. And if you think this is in ANY WAY "playing," you need to spend some time on some Hawkeye sites and see what they say about Nebraska and Nebraska fans. If you think this is worth getting all riled up about, you need to get out more. If you can't handle pro-Husker talk then don't come to this site. It really is that simple. The problem Knappic, is that this thread was not created as a pro-Husker thread. It was started with - or at least rather quickly devolved into - bashing Iowa, and as such the Hawkeye posters on your forum are getting defensive. I don't know about the others, but I come to this site because I am trying like hell to embrace Nebraska as my second team given my family and location but for all of the good conversations, pro-Husker stuff on this board all it takes is some of the ignorant comments to undo a lot of it. As for the idiots on the Hawkeye forums - HawkeyeNation is by far the best Iowa board that I have found as far as limiting the stupid, but there is still WAY too much stupid. If you want a laugh at Iowa AND Iowa State fans just go into the Rivalry forum over there and start reading some of the threads. The way they go at each other is just funny. Granted you might find a thread where I had just had enough and jumped into it and then you can laugh at me as well. I did not start this thread to bash Iowa. I do not live near the border (100 miles +/-), but I do have a lot of friends that are Iowa fans (lived in Sioux City for a few years). They are all very realistic when it comes to the two programs, as am I. They are all very excited to have Nebraska joining the conference, and feel like the conference, as a whole, just got a lot better. So when I was directed to a Hawkeye forum for some light reading, I was somewhat surprised by all the Nebraska topics on it. I obviously get the good natured calls/texts/emails from the Iowa boys when Nebraska loses, but it's all in good fun. I guess I didn't really realize the hatred that a number of Iowa fans have towards the University of Nebraska, and the state of Nebraska.
  6. What is Iowa fan's obsession with the Cornhuskers? I got an email from a friend of mine that is an Iowa fan (nice guy, light razzing only from him) that linked me to one of their boards. On the front page of the board, 7 out of the 20 topics directly related to NU in some way, shape or form. I didn't read into any of them, but I'm sure there were more topics that eventually got to be a Husker bashfest. This board has 0 (now 1) topics regarding Iowa on the front page, and there is a hell of a lot more topics than 20 on the front page. We haven't played them in a decade, not many common opponents, no real connection other than the border to the east of here. The football teams have literally no historical connection to speak of. So what exactly is Iowa's problem with this state and the football team? I had no ill-will towards the state of Iowa or the university before NU moved to the Big 10, but this is a little ridiculous. I just need someone else to verify my thoughts on this.
  7. How about we skip OSU and Missouri and just get Oklahoma and Notre Dame I'd be fine with that. I just figured a "superconference" was always thought of to be 16 teams. OSU wants to go with OU, and I always liked the games with Missouri for some reason.
  8. For the Big 10 to snatch up Oklahoma and Mizzou once the Big 12 takes a header into the dirt. Edit: Okla State and Notre Dame could round out the Big 10 superconference (maybe KU for basketball purposes). The SEC can have their pick of the Texas schools.
  9. Good gravy, lay off the guy. OP, thanks for sharing, and welcome to the board.
  10. Probably laced with laxatives.
  11. Michigan State with 5 first teamers? Is this legit? I know nothing about MSU I guess.
  12. No insult from me, as my wife has that same Barbie.
  13. I'd cut my left arm off if they held that bear at Lambeau. Won't likely happen, but I am behind the idea.
  14. I have a black Cornhusker Starter jacket from the mid 90's that I've wanted to wear for the past decade and a half. I am going to Wisconsin, and I am wearing it. That's all.
  15. If you get ESPNU, it is on for 2 straight hours from 6-8am the following day (tomorrow). Just in case you missed it.
  16. I think we can all agree the officials had more of an impact on the A&M game than the super-heated road environment. Also, I don't see Northwestern's spread attack giving us even a little bit of a scare. Pelini has shutting down spread offenses mastered. He's got this. Other than that I agreed with everything you said, good post. you mean like we shut down Oklahoma/Okie State last year? The amount of yards aside, I don't think too many teams would gripe about giving up 23 points to Oklahoma.
  17. His brother, Beau, was a two time first team All-American WR at Morningside College (NAIA) at about 5'-6" tall, so obviously there is some athletic ability running in the family. And before everyone dogs on NAIA football, you're a pretty damn good football player if you make an all american team at any level.
  18. Fixed it for you. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say over the history of football, Nebraska has been much better than Iowa but given that over the last decade Iowa has really stepped up their game, it could very well make for a Thanksgiving game being played for the division title? The entire point I have been trying to make is that given RECENT history, the game in the fall should be a good one. I have in no way argued that Nebraska does not have a more storied history, just that this game is being played NOW. It is no different from me being confident that we will beat Michigan this year - not because we are a better team than Michigan over the history of the game, but that I believe we will be a better team than Michigan this year given who each team is returning and how things went last year. My entire problem with the attitude isn't that you all think you are going to win because I would be dissapointed if you didn't think that way - but that the reasons given are typically of the "we have 200 more wins than you all time so that shows we are just better than you" variety. This is also what leads to my - this isn't the 90s comments. When talking about a SINGLE YEARS game, it doesn't matter what you did over the past 100 years. Hell it doesn't even matter so much what you did 5 years ago. What matters is how you have done the past couple of years and who you have coming back - both starter and new guys. Now over the course of the next decade worth of games between our teams, the historical significance can come into play because that has an effect on recruiting and in that you will have a significant edge. I am sure that Iowa WILL lose a few recruits to you guys - people that wanted to play in the Big 10 but were overlooked by Michigan and Ohio State might choose to come to Nebraska as one of your low end recruits instead of one of our high end recruits. But as for the game this year, breaking down what both teams have coming back and how the matchups are looking, it just looks like it will be a really close fought game and to think otherwise simply because you have a bunch of national championships and we don't just seems edit: Before someone points out the obvious - yes I talk about last decade in the first paragraph and then say that only the last few years really matters in the last paragraph but you should get my point anyway This is a good post. I am a Nebraska fan through and through, but I realize what Nebraska did 10,20,30 years ago doesn't mean a damn thing on the day after Thanksgiving. I have a ton of friends that are Hawk fans, and other than some general razzing, we don't get too riled up. I even had the pleasure of going to the Iowa/Ia State game at Kinnick last year, which I have to say was a really good time. I wore neutral colors and an NU hat with nothing more than a little light haggling. On a side note, Kinnick's tailgating slaps Lincoln's in the face. Might have been due to it being the Iowa State game, but either way. Will this game turn into an annual rivalry? I kind of hope so. All the chips are on the table, and everything is set up perfectly. Passionate fan bases, shared borders, and (forgive me for saying this NU fans) fairly equal success in the recent past. It will take 10-15+ years of close games with championship implications on the line to really make a true rivalry. Looking at everything for this year's game, I see this being a 24-17 type ball game that could go either way. Do I think (hope) Nebraska will win? Of course, I wouldn't be a fan if i didn't. But I will say with pretty good confidence that it won't be a 3 td game. Nonetheless, myself and my Iowa buddies will be sitting side by side, watching our teams battle it out. For 3 1/2 hours in late November, we'll hate each other's guts, but after that, everything will be let go for another year. Maybe I hang out with some really nice Iowa fans, but I honestly don't see why this board is so butt-hurt about the Hawkeye fans. Let it go, and enjoy the games.
  19. More than were at Texas's spring game. That was pitiful.
  20. 100/0, 0/100, or anywhere in between. If Nebraska averages 500 ypg (a stretch, I know), does anybody really care if it's done with 450 ypg rushing or 450 ypg passing? I sure don't. As long as the ratio puts TD's on the board. Although, I would suspect that Nebraska's record would likely benefit from 450 ypg rushing more so than passing.
  21. You're right on all accounts. The fact is, somebody somewhere will almost always find a different "champion." It's up to the integrity of the school whether they claim that championship or not. Wikipedia has a list of all the D1 national champions over the years. By this count, Nebraska has 11 national championships - but you'll never see a banner or a trophy on public display for our "championships" from 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 etc. The ol scarlet and cream had a 5-peat in the early 80's. Nice.
  22. I'm actually anxious for the Iowa game. After living in Iowa for 3 years, I've had all I can take of my Hawkeye buddies. They are all coming down to Lincoln for the first time, and I really hope we lay the wood to the Herkies a day or two after Thanksgiving. The OSU game is more intriguing as far as the actual game goes, but the atmosphere at the Iowa game is hard for me to wait for. Let it reign in 2011 Cornhuskers.
  23. I don't follow the NFL Combine at all because, frankly, I think it's overrated something awful. However, I received an email from the head coach of our local high school football team. He follows the combine a lot closer as I do. For those that don't follow the combine, Helu was the #1 performer in both the 20 yd and 60 yd shuttles, was second fastest in the 3-cone drill, #6 in the 40 yd dash, #8 in the vertical leap, and #10 in the broad jump. All of these numbers are compared to all the other RB's only. Good for him, as I think he will have a nice NFL career, and his combine performance didn't hurt him at all. On a side note, he ran a 4.42 40 yarder. I had no idea he was that fast. Mods: Please move if this is the wrong forum for this.
