Been contemplating buying a camera for awhile. Any recoomendations for a first time buy. I want something capable, but not for the crazy prices I've seen. Something that could handle night photography too.
I've always wanted to get into photography, I used to be a good artist in high school and can still draw a bit. I'm going to Europe for the first time in a few months and thought it would be good to have a camera there.

Another thing to consider is a tripod, especially in low light and an absolute necessity for long exposures. A remote trigger is also highly recommended for long exposures.
Also, I don't think a fixed, non-zoom lens is practical unless you want to own and swap a bunch of lens and really get into photography. I have two zoom lenses that cover all my needs and shoot fine for even nighttime shots. Zoom vs non-zoom is one of those topics that photographers argue over, so take that discussion with a grain of salt.

I may have mistyped @RedDenver - I meant the Rebel is a good camera to learn manual on and yet have auto options that have good outcomes.
