  1. this discussion took place a few years ago , I liked 7 teams 5 conference champions and one wild card plus one from all the other conferences. I think this year that would be Boise State with the first place team getting a bye.
  2. Do you think an SEC team will honor their scholarship if this injury doesn't heal right NO. He will remain a husker my option.
  3. Reading the article in the Big red report on Riley's visit. I read positive vibes coming from their mom. In the recruiting game mom's decision is very important most of the time. Wanting to meet the entire staff well so would I like to know the full staff. I don't see a problem here.
  4. Not to worry all is happy in Missouri and by the sounds of it the twins are even more excited to be become huskers. I bet one of them will wear his uncles number
  5. Question how many if any of the commits do we lose ? Bussey has been a question mark all year so not including him I think we keep them all.
  6. Now, I liked Bo. I don't think there is any doubt about that. And I have made it pretty clear I'm skeptical about the hire, but let's not go crazy. If he's going to fail, let him do it on the field. But give the guy a god damned chance. We might not be super excited about the assistant hires, or his hire in general. But I have a feeling this guy knows what he can do with this staff. That should be worth something. Good post. It seems there are many Husker fans ready to crucify Riley before he's even coached his first game as the NU head coach. I think there are a lot of Bo-lievers out there (not all) trying to get out their frustrations on Riley for Bo's termination. Which is insane! You can believe Bo got a raw deal and get behind the new guy. It's not like Mike is at fault for Bo being fired. Mike is not at fault for Bo being fired, however I find it quixotic of the Bo hating fans and the Ginger saying, give him a chance, but who also said Bo should be fired based on his lack of wins in games of "substance" or that he wasn't moving the program forward. I'm open minded enough to give Mike a chance right up to the point where one of two things happen. 1. He has a losing season 2. he loses two games of substance by more than 28 points and posts a record of less than 9 wins Simple isn't it? emotions should play a part in this I think for most Husker fans, the standards you are setting would start in year 3. Anytime there is a transition, it will take time for the new coach to raise the results from the prior coach. If Riley wins 7 or 8 games in his first or 2nd season, but wins a conference title in his 3rd, I'm ok with that. I would not be ok if he goes 7 years like Pelini and does not win a championship. You fired BO with 7 9 win seasons why would you lower the bar for the next coach
  7. Alabama favored by 9 1/2 over Ohio State. Baylor favored by 3 over Michigan State. Missouri favored by 6 over Minnesota. Tennessee favored by 3 1/2 over Iowa. Stanford favored by 14 over Maryland. Boston College favored by 3 over Penn State. Auburn favored by 6 1/2 over Wisconsin. North Carolina favored by 4 over Rutgers. Louisiana Tech favored by 3 over Illinois I think we win 5, huskers I'll pick closer to the game
  8. They should all be shown the door. The door should be introduced to more then coaches if less then 9
  9. I was ok with this hire but hell this looks bad if we keep half osu staff and few of BO's we will be back to the middle of the pack again
  10. Right after he said that he also said that a lot of programs have thrown money at problems and it hasn't worked. He simply was saying they were going to get the right person and money wasn't an issue. My guess is you will see some very well paid assistants on this staff Sports Illustrated reported that Mike Cavanaugh, Mark Banker and Bruce Read were coming to Nebraska. ,its not starting well for a high end staff It wouldn't surprise me now we keep our OC
  11. Maybe we set up like Alabama and Ohio St with advisory staff using retired coaches from the past. Their job as I understand is watch practices , games and point out faults in techniques help with game planning and scouting of opponents
  12. Now that SE has picked his pony and basically bet his job on this the money will be flowing like water. He said it himself, resources are no object. Earlier this year we weren't about to give Joseph a raise to keep him, won't be seeing that sort of thing anymore. I do think it's a raw deal if SE will give Riley a budget/staff that he'd never give Bo but all the same that we're going for it like this is still for the good of the program. Really looks like we're going balls-out for some big hires. Bo's was 3 million plus Mike's is less the budget could remain the same just worked a little different . Our OC was over paid you could find a lot of great OC to work for 750.
  13. Riley will sink or swim with his selected coaching staff . I hope he doesn't fail like the last two did with not making the coaching change when necessary.
  14. This job will be his first where he has resources and no top end management interference. When he coached in the CFL he recruited outstanding football players, when their contracts where up for renewal the Bombers couldn't afford to pay CFL all stars rates.
  15. He is a QB coach something we didn't have He coaches discipline on the field should lower the penalities Turnover ratio is better then BO's He beats ranked teams Those improvements should get us to the CCG I hope this turns out good for the husker nation and I can't wait to see who is on the new staff
  16. He fired a coach with 3 losses and said the reason why is he expects us to compete for championships, and hires a guy that has ~50% win/loss percentage. Maybe the guy ends up being the answer, maybe he lays an egg. I honestly hope Riley comes in and surprises me, but I don't think he will. No way Bo has the same record as he did here at Oregon State. People need to give him a season or two. I don't agree with your assertion, but there's really no way to prove it either way. So... And just like Bo, I say give this guy a good chance. I hate saying he has X years (insert any number you prefer), but it looks like we have a timeline we can roughly go by: 71% wins never fewer than 9 wins, but also only one season with fewer than 4 losses (The Bo Timeline): 7 years 50% wins with some 5-7 years and some 9-3 years (The Callahan Timeline): 4 years 75% wins with a conference championship and a loss in the MNC (The Solich Timeline): 6 years So at a minimum he has 4 years I guess. If he has 1 season of 5 or 6 wins he will be gone.
  17. David Shaw is it Frank all over again used pass coaches recruits win lose with yours. I just don't know I'm not for this hire
  18. I'm glad that some think Tressel may still be the guy. Tressel had a very good DC at Ohio State and he is still there I believe. I wonder if Tressel could talk his old DC into coming to Nebraska
  19. Tressel is my first choice, Looking at remaining coaches on the Vegas list in the running Frost is the best guy available.
