  1. Reducing or eliminating SNAP in favor of a mail delivery food box from the government is going to crush the corner markets within poorer communities. When those markets are forced to close it will eliminate one of the few sources of jobs in those areas. Ben Carson should soundly be against this proposed change.
  2. Is it possible that the FBI too thought the polling was accurate and rather than burn Page and Papadopoulos they kept the investigation secret? Would it have happened had Trump been up in the polls? Not that the general public will ever know but I suspect there have been some serious talk at high levels of the FBI about how to handle these things in the future.
  3. I don't expect the memo to actually get released because it's a far bigger boogeyman when they can just talk about how bad it is without having to show anything. It may be terrible for the FBI and the previous admin. I don't think we will ever really know.
  4. I'm 100% against federal and 100% for municipal with the caveat that we shouldn't need either. If there was actual real competition for home internet service I don't think municipal broadband would be very interesting. 5G speeds could open entirely new markets for the cellular companies. Those of us in the city could realistically have 6-10 options for home broadband.
  5. Thanks for sharing that article about the 5G wireless. There's a lot there to think about. Would the general public really trust the government to not use this for bulk surveillance? The very first thing that comes to mind is that the government owning the towers makes it trivial to monitor all the traffic. Not that they aren't already doing it but at least when the networks are owned by an outside party it 'feels' like there is some privacy. How does this in any way line up with the idea of small government? It's the exact opposite. Somewhat unrelated to this article but I think this is a step towards outlawing VPNs, certainly for personal use. The easy argument for them to make is that if we're using a 'secure' network then why do you need a VPN? The guise of national security will be used to trick the uninformed to giving up their right to privacy while online. I wish I were better putting my thoughts to words....there's just so much here.
  6. Lee might still find himself on a practice squad somewhere but it sounds like he's doing everything he can to ruin every ounce of draft stock he has.
  7. The most frustrating part of this tweet about airplane safety is that it's a good use of twitter but he can't resist patting himself on the back for something he had no part of. A tweet congratulating the industry on another year with zero fatalities is a perfect use of twitter. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/948195478428102657
  8. Government regulations are bad. Net neutrality is a regulation. Therefore net neutrality is bad. That's essentially the argument. Then they talk about the free market as if the last mile into our homes isn't a billion dollar problem that even Google/Alphabet with their VERY deep pockets hasn't had trouble with.
  9. As I think more about this particular interview it makes me wonder if we're even going to get debates in the run-up to the 2020 elections. I can see Trump's handlers convincing him to not do the debates because he won't have anything to gain.
  10. It's hard to figure out which thread to put this in and I'd offer some highlights of the article but the whole thing is just crazy. I won't be surprised if this is one of Trump's last interviews. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/12/29/16829806/trump-interview-new-york-times
  11. It's also continuing the push that Fox News is where we should be getting out news.
  12. I hope I don't ever get used to the idea of a POTUS tweeting things like this. It's so weird and unbecoming of the highest elected person in the country.
  13. My initial reaction is 7 wins but I wouldn't put any money down until we find out who is going to play QB.
  14. You need to make sure you get a VISA gift card that can be for international use. https://www.bovada.lv/help/deposit-methods
  15. The fanbase will rightfully be very upset if Moos chooses someone that was either recently fired like McElwain/Jones or on their way out like Bielema/Sumlin/Riley. It's got to be someone moving up the coaching ranks. Maybe an OC or DC doesn't get it done but they have to try.
  16. Some of those early Pelini teams definitely showed heart. The championship game versus TX for sure; that defense gave it their all.
  17. I guarantee you that a whole lot of men in Alabama who like those 'Rules for dating my daughter' emails/posts are going to vote for a guy that should have his own rule on the list.
  18. 'Extreme vetting' is pretty vague but I'd like to think it would have turned up the domestic assault conviction that the AF neglected to report. It seems like a pretty reasonable question to ask.
  19. He will end up on the practice squad for a couple different teams before giving it up.
  20. Tanner Lee does everything he can to help Rutgers get the W but the Nebraska D comes up big in the 4th with a turnover to win the game for us. It's an ugly game but a win.
  21. I voted 8-4 but if they can play OSU, PSU, and Wisconsin to close respectable losses I could see 7-5 being good enough. It's easy to forget that we're breaking in a new DC with a new defensive scheme and a new (to us) quarterback. This was always going to be a bit of a rebuilding year and it takes time to get everyone on the same page.
  22. There are two reasons that I miss being in the Big 12. 1 - I live in Kansas City so it was easy to get to away games. Mizzou, KU, and KSU are all shorter drives than getting to Lincoln. 2 - Local sports radio would occasionally talk about Nebraska. Other than those two reasons I'm totally over it. Bye Felecia.
  23. I don't want to sound like I'm defending the staff because I do agree with you that we're headed in the wrong direction, but the defense wasn't the problem today. The defense only gave up 7 points and 213 yards on the third game of the season with a whole new scheme.
