  1. It will only take one from the Big XII to do so this time around, assuming that the Big 10, ACC, and Pac-12 expand to 14 alongside the SEC. And per the Aggies Insider article, it could be Missouri that kicks this off, and not A&M--Missouri is already unhappy before Bevo TV showed up. Yeah that's what I meant that either one or the other will leave and kick it off. The conference can't survive anyone else leaving since everyone already has plans made on where they will go once that happens. I thought that they could always pull in an old SWC school anytime they wanted to. FYI the new BCS deal only give ND one half of what the other teams get. In exchange we get paid 1.5 million in BCS money on years that we don't go to a BCS bowl. In an amazing coincidence we haven't been to a BCS bowl since that deal was announced in 2007, netting ND 6 million for sitting at home on NYD. Just curious Joe, what do you think of the whole: "If Texas A&M was to leave, Dodds said the Big 12 might seek to bring in another school. Dodds also said if there was not sentiment to hold the Big 12 together by the remaining members that Texas and possibly Notre Dame could join forces to create a new conference." So basically how do you feel about joining Texas to create the SWCx3 (third-times-a-charm) but move all your games to esipn 8 (the bevo).

  3. I think there's way too much parity in the top half of the bug10 for the champ to be undefeated. Your schedule is the hardest possible. OSUe is in free fall. Penn St will be searching for a coach. Wiscy and Iowa will regress to the mean. I do hope you like playing the SEC in their region since that's whom #2-5 in your new conference is tied into.
  4. Thats the sad truth about living in the northeast, no real passion for college football. Lots of baseball fans round here. Thats precisely right. Pro football, baseball, basketball, and even hockey are more followed than college football. In the NYC area, there are 9 pro sports teams. I was working in Boston in 2007 when for a brief moment BC and WVU controlled their own destiny to the BCSCG. It was buried on page 7E of the Boston Globe while everyone at lunch was talking about the latest BoSox signings. I think I convinced them that the BC and BCS were two unrelated abbreviations.
  5. I've got some bad news for you . . .
  6. Anyone's historical record vs the SEC includes playing their all white teams, which hung around longer than it should have.
  7. I think the truth is somewhere in between what the media is saying and the university. I have heard enough from people in Youngstown to know that it isn't as cut and dry as some (i.e. schuhbdoo) like to make it out to be. I also think that Clarett had problems that are far beyond what happened at OSU. To lay the blame solely on OSU and Tressel for that one is hard to swallow. In the end, people will hate OSU for the stuff that has happened in the past and the many games won on the field. It shouldn't really matter to OSU fans. True, but you get tired of hearing it since 2003 (people saying we didn't really win that game) if you cheated then you shouldnt have and that will be coming out soon so we will know if you won that game rightfully or not. Well the NCAA already investigated and said there was nothing back then. That didn't stop people from saying we didn't really win the game. (actually it was the call at the end of the game - that one that was ranked one of the top 10 best calls by a referee group - that people say we should have really lost the game with. I for one was outraged that the refs enforced a rule where they sometimes ignore it.
  8. lol..welcome to the Big Ten...U will grow to Hate the buckeyes and their incredibly rude fans..and a word of warning..If you ever travel to Columbus...Be extremely careful..expect to get spat on beer thrown at you, yelled and screamed at and swore at..and those are just the mild things...trust me Youll see.... Are you sure that's not just due to you being a M fan? More likely it's that he's been to Columbus.
  9. I thought the AUburn scandal was already thoroughly broken, what with the FBI and all.
  10. Whoa...slow down there. Going independent doesn't kill championship ideas--in fact, it makes them easier to obtain, because champion programs cost money to make, and money to maintain. Any independent worth a bunch of money (read: Texas, BYU) will be able to take advantage of the current Notre Dame 9-win BCS threshold. That means Texas could get a BCS game and all the prestige and money without having to split it with its have-not bumpkin cousins in MO, KS, and OK. Plus, Texas gets to craft their own schedule, and it will likely look similar to that of ND or BYU--a lot of fluff, little filler. And even if Texas keeps their OU and A&M tilts, they could still lose both of these matches and one more to some random scrub and still take home millions in BCS excess simply because they have nine wins and an orange, pointy uterus on their helmet. The real, significant challenges in going independent are scheduling and network access, and I think we all know that Texas has the later all wrapped up. Actually it does kill Championships. BYU now can't go to a BCS bowl at all. They were told that when they went independent but they don't care about that. Texas doesn't have a long history of being an independent like Notre Dame does. Hell the Big 12 was worried that they would lose their BCS status because us and Colorado left. Notre Dame also has to win a certain number of games(9 i think) and be ranked in like the top 6(i think) to even be considered for a BCS bowl. Considering that the Federal Government is investigating the BCS for anti-trust violations (among other things), I seriously doubt the BCS was told "BYU now can't go to a BCS bowl at all" or anything along those lines. And frankly, considering the size of the fanbase and the better TV contract BYU got when it went independent, BYU is all but assured of sharing Notre Dame's sweetheart BCS backdoor deal, especially since Notre Dame can't seem to capitalize on it. Texas too, for that matter. And I did address the nine-win requirement, and how that's easy for Texas to achieve, even if they're only a hair above mediocre (or a bit below as they were last year). Texas would likely keep A&M and Oklahoma, mix in one annual contender, fill the rest with fluff, and *poof* instant nine-win season, even if Texas chokes to A&M and OU. We capitalized on it jus fine after they changed the rules to pay us for not going to a BCS bowl in 2007. I'm quite sure that an eligible Texas team would never get excluded as if Texas went independent then the BCS as we know it is already dead.
  11. Not impossible, it will just become a harder to recruit in Texas. Their media will try to forget that you exist.
  12. Totally different. My friend played hockey at SCSU and didn't make a dime.
  13. It's fun to see these bowl games that I didn't really watch back then. Especially to watch thugU collapse in the 4th quarter. But the BTN is run by Buzz Killington, the documentary shows are Nyquil.
  14. Yet your team is the last one to be owned by Jamarcus Russell. Interesting. Our D was geting kickbacks for scamming the NFL like we did with Leinhart.
  15. There's now a 2nd team in the conference that isn't impressed with losing the Rose Bowl.
  16. Glad to see BK meditating over his Irish temper.
  17. A few years back in NH I remarked how nice it was to have 3 world champions, and they told me "don't hold your breath on the Bruins." EXHALE...
  18. You're assumptions are all wrong. We've increased, not lost, teams willing to play us since realignment. The two Pac schools you mentioned got an exemption for ND in the new TV contract that they can always play us. Schools like Stanford like scheduling ND because people actually buy tickets when we're in town. In any case, given the history like @um 2009, assembling any schedule is still better for us than joining the B#G. Again, Southern Cal and Stanford got a special ND exemption from the September rule. The Oregon Sts can still play us later on if they get the rest of the schools to agree, which can be bargained for because the Pac always schedules tough OOC. The problem is SEC teams scared to get their nipples cold in an OOC game. More independents or pseudo-independents means more teams to schedule without having to discover schools I'd never heard of before reading the SEC schedule for the first 4 weeks --- They want us in in 2011 for the same reasons that ex-NU coach Fielding Yost fought to keep us out in 1911, perception and prestige. Yes it is. Independence is supposed to be hard. But we're not going to be forced to lose it due to B#G pressure.

  20. My favorite anecdote is the the husker players taking weights off the bar when the reporters came into the weight room.
  21. When he was mad at Tressel there was, but not when he was getting JT's help. It's also coincidence that Pryor seems to have gotten a car from friendly dealers as well.
  22. The Death penalty is dead. They won't risk another SMU sob story about how unfair it was for the players.
