  1. I thought that as well but why not try to elevate his draft stock somewhere else. Also, this years qb class looks to be pretty stout with Donald, Rosen, Allen, Lamar Jackson (possibly), Rudolph, Faulk (Wash St) all going before him.
  2. Agreed - I think it is telling that of the past 3 coaches fired by Nebraska none have landed on their feet at another Power 5 as a head coach (or in the NFL as a head coach). I think people of the camp that "we've fired too soon" need to realize this.
  3. I'm sure there will be plenty of places for him to go that run a pro-style who are looking for a 1 year rental. I'm sure if the season continues on this trajectory and as Riley's seat continues to warm (if it isn't already on fire), his dad will begin reaching out again - as his dad was instrumental in finding DONU and researching the NCAA rules to get him here.
  4. One topic that I haven't seen discussed with all the speculation that Riley is on the way out is whether Tanner Lee would stay if Riley is fired? I believe he could leave as a graduate transfer. I would think with the way this season has gone he might look for a new spot to revive his career and increase his pro prospects? Third time a charm?
  5. No kidding! Speed- is the one place you've heard from one guy or have you /any others heard this elsewhere?
  6. Agreed - we've almost backed ourselves into a corner. The new ad will always be looked disfavorly on/questioned if Frost isn't the hire. Similarly, the new coach will always be compared to Frost - unless we get a homerun hire like Patterson which is slim to none.
  7. When you don't have the jimmies and joes to fill a hole and execute (tackle) there's not really an answer for that in season... gotta get bigger, faster, stronger.
  8. Anybody else see the similarities between Frost and Steve Spurrier if we get Frost to come back home? Both got their head coaching start at a non-traditional power(Duke and UCF); both star qbs at their alma mater; both would bring an up tempo style to leagues where running the ball and playing defense are the norm (fun and gun in the SEC and wisc/iowas model in BIG west)...
  9. Yup completely agree - the talent at linebacker really showed itself tonight. Newby needs to be shown the bench and if our young backers can't beat him out based on what he's putting on film we are in trouble for the foreseeable future- especially against teams like Wisconsin and Iowa.
  10. Our linebackers just aren't bad enough dudes to fill the hole like they should. Not much you can do schematically when the other team is more physical than you are...
  11. Agreed. This would be best case scenario. Although a very slim chance - I think it is a possibility.
  12. According to Mitch Sherman he was contacted but pulled his name from consideration: "He reportedly told his staffers in an email on Wednesday that he had been contacted by Nebraska's search firm and asked to interview — and that he turned down the opportunity." http://www.espn.com/college-football/team/_/id/158/
  13. My book's got it down to -5.5 as well
  14. Nebraska scoring consecutively on its first two drives - that made for a good laugh.
  15. Agreed - couple that with complex pre-snap motion(s) only to be followed by basic and predictable plays run out of the same formations and splits is infuriating.
  16. I think Hoppes has been severely overrated. I think it may be time to give Snyder, Stoll and some younger guys a look at TE.
  17. http://www.espn.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/142941/big-ten-week-5-picks-will-nebraska-bottom-out-in-champaign 2 out of 3 ESPN big ten reporters pick Illinois to win outright... interesting.
  18. The more I've researched and looked at possible candidates my first call for an interview would be Del Conte down at TCU. Hopefully he would take our call.
  19. The odds of that happening are extremely slim. And yes, if that's part of the game plan then you still go forward with it. It's really not that novel of an idea.
  20. It's not a matter of benching Lee. It's getting a backup reps. This is actually done quite often.
  21. At this point, I don't expect any in season commits until after the season and the coaching situation shakes itself out with either Riley being fired or new AD (whenever that hiring occurs) giving Riley a vote of confidence... anyone think different?
  22. I think one reason we have had an uptick in injuries is due to all of our games have been dog fights so far. We haven't had a gimme game where reserves were playing in the 2nd half like a lot of other schools.
  23. My comment was more of the overall inability of Cav to develop genuine interest from OL recruits this year. No knock on this kid because I sure would like to have him - but pretty sure he wasn't plan A, B, or C. We are going to have to go pretty far down the board to get a tackle recruit this year - and that was before the coaching turmoil and uncertainty.
  24. Are we surprised by this... Cav is a below average coach/teacher and I think we are finding out he is a below average recruiter.
