  1. UCF had a real nice drive to go up by 10 with 3 minutes left. 2nd and 10 from the 12, and they stay with the run and score a TD.
  2. I think Saunders is in Florida, so Fall Ball is probably much more desirable than playing in late Spring/Summer. In fact, there are Fall Baseball leagues in Colorado, as well.
  3. Scott might get a restraining order against the whole State of Nebraska if that happens.
  4. Yes and no. It does take good blocks by the WR’s to break really long runs, and a good RB to read those blocks and have the speed to break away from the D.
  5. This is also true. Teams have figured him out, as his W-L record since 2010 has been abysmal.
  6. It's both, but the system isn't built to rely on a great running back (at least Langsdorf's isn't). His system is to try to run just well enough, so that it opens up the passing game. Langsdorf has shown that he really doesn't like committing to a consistent run game.
  7. Riley has shown to be the same coach at Nebraska that he was at Oregon State for 15 years. I don't know how he would "improve" at age 64 and nearly 20 years into coaching. It's time to end this failed experiment. Riley is a nice guy, but a terrible fit as Nebraska head coach.
  8. It's way to early to start speculating on that. If Frost were hired, most expect UCF to name his current DC as their next head coach. I mean: OC& O-line coach - Barney Cotton QB - Matt Turman WR - Matt Davidson RB - Damon Benning TE - Sheldon Jackson DT/Co-DC - Jason Peters DE/Co-DC - Grant Winstrom LB - Jay Foreman DB - Mike Brown ST - Kris Brown
  9. For future reference, it's Jason PETER.
  10. Joe Pa's exit had it's own extremely weird and sick circumstances, but it was definitely an example of a guy hanging on too long.
  11. I don't think Rimington would take on the job of a full-time AD, but I can see him coming back to NU to work with the athletic department. He's a great ambassador for the football program and University. But, given his physical limitations (sounds like he has bad knees from his playing days) he may not want to day to day, week to week grind of being AD.
  12. T.O. did have heart surgery in 1985 (at age 47) to clear 90-95% blockage in a major artery, so I am sure he and Nancy did have some health concerns of him coaching into his 60s. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1985/02/05/Nebraska-football-coach-Tom-Osborne-underwent-four-hours-of/4929476427600/
  13. I don't hold it against Osborne for retiring from coaching when he did. Yes, it would have been great to have him stick around another 5-10 years, but he wanted to try doing other things while he was still relatively young. It's unfortunate that NU wasn't able to continue the dominance (or even something close to that) with all the coaches and AD's that have been around since then, but I'm not going to be "upset" with TO.
  14. SE was brought in to fire Bo, because Pearlman wanted Bo gone. SE just did it a year too late. Also, SE thought anyone could win 8-9 games a season, and didn’t think Riley was that bad of a coach so he would be able to do that. I do agree with you in that SE misread NU fans thinking that we would be appeased by Riley, as long as he was nice. But, SE didn’t realize how a lot of NU fans would realize that Riley is a mediocre coach who was about to be fired at Oregon State.
  15. You didn’t get the joke. Callahan is the Redskins’ o-line coach.
  16. Especially if Penn State is still in contention for a college football playoff spot. Even if Penn State loses to Ohio State, they may want to stick it to Nebraska to keep their CFP rankings high, and they might be able to steal another spot for the Big Ten.
  17. Then who would he be "assisting"? If he's a recruiting coordinator or helping to recruit the west coast, how is that not "assisting" the football coach? I know he wouldn't be an official assistant coach, but he would be on the football staff. Anyway, I don't know why it's even worth arguing about, Riley would never do it. He probably doesn't think he should be fired, so why would he take such a huge demotion like that.
  18. I don't think we should have the former Head Coach who has been fired for failing to win being kept around to "assist" the new coach. You aren't the only one who has commented on keeping Riley around, but it's just ridiculous. Let the old man go back to Oregon and live in retirement.
  19. He doesn't really have any ties to Moos, other than the fact they "know each other" from competing against each other in the Pac-10/12 days. I'm sorry, but I don't want Riley to be affiliated any longer with the NU athletic department. Yes, he's a very nice guy, and is a good representative of the University, but that's about it. I don't want him helping the next coach at all. I want this football program torn down to the foundation, allowing Moos and the new coach to do so.
  20. If you don't have elite level linemen, WR's, and RB's, a non-mobile QB has to be an amazing passer to make the offense work. It requires too much from other players to make the offense work. I think a mobile QB is a requirement for an offense which isn't getting top 5 or top 10 recruiting class talent every year, that's if you want the offense to be a top 1/3 of the NCAA offense.
  21. The scholarship offers that go to in-state kids will always be an interesting topic. I understand that NU fans will mention that the team was full of Nebraska natives when NU was winning national championships in the 90s. Yes, that's true, but it could have been a historical era of great talent that was in Nebraska at that time. A number of those Nebraska natives went on to play in the NFL, so that tells me that they were extremely talented players (yes, part of that talent was developed at NU). I don't know if the Nebraska high school ranks are producing the same talent level that it was in the 80s and 90s. I haven't seen the in-state talent since 2000, but I would like to think there could be more in-state offers from NU. I do think that NU could offer a 2-3 more in-state kids each year, but the current and past couple staffs have been slow to offer in-state kids. I think one huge thing that is hurting the walk-on program is the cost of walking-on and the prestige of getting a college scholarship offer, even if it's from Wyoming, Ohio, or an FCS school. It's extremely frustrating when NU loses in-state guys to Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Stanford, etc. but that has been happening as long as I have been following Nebraska since the early 80s. There have always been 1 or 2 top guys each year that choose to go elsewhere.
  22. They may very well win the game against UCF, but that still doesn't change my feelings on Frost.
  23. I also don't get the notion that Frost isn't "ready". Now, any coach that gets hired at Nebraska is going to have risks. But, I don't think one of Frost's risk is his lack of being "ready" or lack of experience. Frost has the same type of experience of the following coaches who have been hired in recent years at P5 schools: Herman, Brohm, Fleck, and Franklin.
