Spartness
Did you noticed even though he was productive with three receptions that he looked slow and hesitant? It looked like he was afraid of being hit and injured again. I hope he gets his confidence back for the USC game or he won't be much of a factor. Quote Link to comment
admo
I noticed. I'm sure he is just testing it out - getting hit again. It's the first actual game since that devasting broken leg injury. He'll be okay. Quote Link to comment
ttheKid1*18
I thought he looked slow as well, especially on the play where he shook the guy and made him fall. It was his first game though, and there is plenty of time to get better. Quote Link to comment
gamecocks
I can handle him being slower, because he has a knack for getting open and that truely will open the offense more for Taylor and company. Quote Link to comment

No question. That, along with the running game, was a missing piece of the puzzle last year. Having good TEs to take the pressure of ZT is such a big deal, especially in the WCO. Â Â This offense could be dynamic if: Â 1. The O-Line continues to mature and improve (anyone think Nicks should be in the starting 5?) Â 2. Mo Purify picks up the offense quickly. Â 3. Our TEs stay healthy. Quote Link to comment
skersfan
As I have harped for the last two years, this is the toughest injury in the world to overcome. Some people never even get close to overcoming the mental hangups that it involves. I know world class athletes that will not even play golf, are afraid of walking up and down stairs. Let alone get on the football field. Â It takes a specail athlete to overcome the physical side of this type of injury. The mental can drag on and on, most of the time never ending. Â He is physically healed, he made moves and cuts that took a lot of faith for him to try. He is getting over this setback. He may never ever be 100% but I truly feel he is on the way back. Either way we owe him every bit of support we can give him. Trust me, 95% of the athletes that have this type of injury never even consider returning to the sport they were injured in. I admire his effort, his dedication to the game he loves. You do not come back from this injury unless there is an undying love. He is there, as the year goes on he will get better and better. I am hoping by conference play we will see the old Matt on the field, but trust me he is alot closer than any of us would ever have come. A man among boys. Quote Link to comment
rawhide
Â Been there. Had a skull fx with subdural and arachnoid bleed after getting hit by a softball while running the bases. Never played a game since. Â Â GBR and Matt Quote Link to comment
DJR313
Herian did exactly what the offense needed him to do. Hats off to him for his hard work in rehab, he will only get better as the season rolls along. Quote Link to comment

Exactly! He doesn't need to run for touch downs on every catch. Just catch the ball and do what's asked of him. He should definitely open things up for our offense. Quote Link to comment
Spartness
Excellent posts guys. I expect he will get better as the season progresses. I just hope it's sooner than later, meaning USC. Quote Link to comment
StuckinChicago
I dont think he was any slower... He has always had long lazy strides and looked slower than he actually was. He was definately hesitant in taking on tacklers, but his blocking was excellent the entire game.. Quote Link to comment

BIGREDIOWAN
It would be EXTREMELY hard to come back from this injury and immediately trust that everything would feel good!!!! It will take some time, but he has already earned a ton of respect from me for what he has gone through. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
SI also has him as a sleeper for the next NFL draft. SI link Quote Link to comment
Hawkeyehusker
Matt did look like he put a pretty good move on Mark Dillard Saturday. Dillard should have nailed him outright but Herian put a nice move on him and Dillard never laid a hand on him. It was a nice 20 yard pickup. Quote Link to comment
