HUSKER 37
borNred.. Glad to hear She's back. An ex co-worker of mine lost his 12 year old daughter to abduction back in 1999. I am So glad your Sister turned up safe! I know what She probably needs most right now is Unconditional Love, but once the dust settles, you might want to warn her that bad things really do happen. A couple weeks ago, a local 19 year old girl went on a date with a guy just out of prison..So far, they've only found her bloody clothes. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/l...vburns0210.html Mesa man faces charges in case of missing woman Elias C. Arnold The Arizona Republic Feb. 10, 2007 12:00 AM MESA - A 25-year-old Mesa man was indicted Friday on first-degree murder, sexual assault and related charges in connection with the disappearance of a 19-year-old Gilbert woman. Jonathan Ian Burns is charged with four counts, including first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual assault and misconduct involving weapons, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. Jacquelan "Jackie" Hartman of Gilbert has not been seen since Jan. 28, while on a date with Burns. Her body has not been recovered. "We kind of anticipated this, I guess," said David Hartman, Jackie's father, who has been organizing and conducting searches for her for nearly two weeks. Burns was arrested Jan 29 on suspicion of sexual assault after police found Hartman's torn clothing with bulletlike holes in a dumpster near his residence. Police later added a kidnapping charge in connection with Hartman's disappearance. The announcement comes a day after Gilbert police served a second search warrant at Burns' residence in the 2500 block of West Kilarea Avenue. A spokesman for the County Attorney's Office declined to discuss what, if any, evidence gathered there may have contributed to the indictment. Sally Wells, chief assistant county attorney, said the office is confident in its case, citing previous convictions amid similar circumstances. "It's much easier if you have a body that reflects evidence of homicide, but you can still use other circumstantial evidence to prove that," Wells said. Police on Thursday declined to discuss specifics of what they were looking for or found during the second search of Burns' home other than to say they had seized two vehicles. No one was arrested in connection with the search. Five pit bulls were living inside the home, and it was not well-kept. Police officers had to take frequent breaks, police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Duncan said Thursday. "Officers were having to step out on a regular basis to get fresh air," Duncan said. Burns lived at the residence with his fiancee, Mandi Elaine Smith, and brother Daniel Raymond Barnett, Duncan said. Smith has a 7-year-old daughter, though it is unclear whether she lived at the residence, he said. Police searched last weekend for Hartman near Sunflower, along Arizona 87. Authorities said earlier this week that they were considering extending the search to the Four Peaks area. The County Attorney's Office said it would determine within 60 days whether to seek the death penalty. Reach the reporter at (602) 444-7509.
