Big 12 Championship Game Permanent Home1?!?!?!!?

they should try st. loius again they were there for only the first big12 championship game if im not mistaken

 

They moved it from the dome because its a piece of ****. Couple of other reasons is its not all that big. I think it seats around 65K. I know the Alamo can hold around 70K and Arrowhead almost 80K. And STL is mostly a Big 10 city. Really the only Big 12 tie is MU. Unlike cities like Dallas or KC where there are alot of Big 12 fans and Big 12 alums.

 

 

And yes I think that would suck to have it stay down south perm. with no rotation.

Osborne and all of the other North ADs better put up one hell of a fight. And the line about having to move basket ball up to KC to "appease the north!" Who cares about getting the basketball tournament in KC?????

Well in that case I guess replace St. Louis with Denver in my post. I wish we had a good dome to play in up north, but I guess the North conference championships can be years a real conf. champ was crowned!!

it does not seem right to keep it down south, but I see their point in having it in a new beautiful stadium, in a typically warmer climate, but at the same time i do remember seeing snow at cowboys stadium on thanksgiving so it is still a crapshoot unless they move it to San Antonio and really make it out of the way for all the schools. more than likely for us here in the north we won't be able to enjoy the B12 champ game close to home anymore

 

I don't really care where the game is. Yeah, it's in Texas, but who cares? Even if it is closer to all the Southern schools, in my eyes they have somewhat earned it. They keep staying good and the North keeps staying mediocre. Plus, I don't think location matter necessarily. Flash back to the 1994 Orange Bowl. Miami was practically at a home game there, yet Nebraska was still able to squeak out a win.

 

I do agree that a domed championship game would be a lot better as far as weather is concerned, though. It will allow for both teams to concentrate more fully on the game than be distracted by weather.

I think from a recruiting standpoint, having the game each year in Texas could possibly have huge benefits especially if NU recruits Texas players real hard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both teams' schools given an equal amount of tickets to purchase for the game? Is it really a *home field* advantage if nearly half the stadium is cheering for the other team? If memory serves me correctly, when the Big 12 championship game was in San Antonio vs Texas, the Husker fans more than filled their half of the seats in the Alamo Dome.

 

I say, play the game in the conditions that are most conducive to the players and the fans. Maybe it's because I've lived in Arizona too long, but Dallas sounds like an ideal place to host the game with their new stadium.

Is it really a *home field* advantage if nearly half the stadium is cheering for the other team? If memory serves me correctly, when the Big 12 championship game was in San Antonio vs Texas, the Husker fans more than filled their half of the seats in the Alamo Dome.

What about the five other teams in the North whose fans don't travel like Husker fans? There's still a competitive disadvantage for them, right?

I still think Arrowhead is a good place to play it. I know it's outside and in Dec. but for goodsakes this is football. Ball up and play the game like it should be... out in the elements. I think every 2 years it should be switched from a South locale to a North. Dallas/San Antonio then St. Louis/K.C. Maybe even Mile High stadium for a year too!!! The South can whine their asses off about the cold and snow, but maybe they should let their n*ts drop before they go hugging them back up inside because of the weather.

People, people . . . we are all missing the point. Its not about the game, its about the MONEY. The Big 12 office is worried sick that ONE seat will be left unfilled, leaving the coffers short of tens of dollars!

Just read an article on rivals where the commissioner of the Big 12 said that the title game is slated for Arlington Tx this and next season and if all goes well it will be there permanantly.

 

Does this give the south teams home field??

Personally, if you can't get your fan base to travel to the Conference Championship game to see your team earn a BCS Bowl berth, too bad for your team. Although I think that Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, and Colorado would travel well if they have a good enough season. It's called a bandwagon.
