Grading the Big 12 North Thus Far

Recommended Posts

There are many different ways of grading out the Big 12 North thus far this year and…for your convenience, I have listed out as many here as possible. Be the envy of your neighborhood as you point out logical reasons why your favorite team is actually the best team playing! (against D-I opponents only – Sorry KSU)

Won-Lose Method:

1. Kansas 4-0

Missouri 4-0

3. Iowa State 3-1

Nebraska 3-1

5. Kansas State 2-2

6. Colorado 1-2

Prolific Scoring Offense Method

1. Kansas - 162 pts

2. Nebraska - 157 pts

3. Missouri - 147 pts

4. Iowa State - 102 pts

5. Kansas State - 94 pts

6. Colorado - 79 pts

Stingiest Scoring Defense Method

1. Nebraska - 28 pts allowed

2. Kansas - 54 pts allowed

3. Missouri - 62 pts allowed

4. Kansas State - 64 pts allowed

5. Iowa State - 76 pts allowed

6. Colorado - 77 pts allowed

Biggest Scoring Differential Method

1. Nebraska - +129

2. Kansas - +108

3. Missouri - +85

4. Iowa State - +32

5. Kansas State - +30

6. Colorado - +2

Those are all easy…now we get into the more detailed ones:

Playing Non-Conference Games Against Ranked Opponents Method

1. Iowa State - 1

Nebraska - 1

3. Colorado - 0

Kansas - 0

Kansas State - 0

Missouri – 0

Playing Non-Conference Games Against Actual D-I Opponents Method

1. Nebraska - 4

2. Colorado - 3

Iowa State - 3

Kansas - 3

Missouri – 3

6. Kansas State - 2

Opponent’s Won/Lose Method (combined)

1. Kansas State – 9-5

2. Iowa State – 9-7

3. Colorado – 7-5

4. Kansas – 7-9

5. Nebraska – 6-8

6. Missouri – 5-9

Opponents Offensive Prowess Method (combined rank of all D-1 opponents)

1. Colorado – 50th

2. Kansas – 66th

3. Nebraska – 72nd

4. Missouri – 77th

5. Iowa State – 98th

6. Kansas State – 99th

Opponents Defensive Fearsomeness Method (combined rank of all D-1 opponents)

1. Iowa State – 48th

2. Kansas State – 49th

3. Kansas – 63th

4. Nebraska – 75nd

5. Colorado – 91th

6. Missouri – 96th

Opponents Combined Offensive and Defensive Rank Method

1. Kansas - 64

2. Colorado - 70

3. Iowa State - 73

Nebraska - 73

5. Kansas State - 74

6. Missouri - 86

Now, to get a real feel for who is going to win the North, simply add up all the placings above. For instance with Nebraska you get 3+2+1+1+1+1+5+3+4+3=24

Do this for all the North teams (the lower the number the better) and the final Big 12 North rankings are determined mathematically to be:

Kansas (20)

Nebraska (24)

Iowa State (30)

Missouri (37)

Colorado (38)

Kansas State (42)

30 and above go to bowl games…the rest are left out.

There you go…a scientific method behind the madness which is the Big 12 North. You can argue however you want but…statistics don’t lie.
