Mangino threads

From what is being reported he got in the face of a few players, popped one on the chest, and grabbed a few face masks. If this is the case then I feel sorry for KU and their fans for having such wimps on their team.

When I was playing in college our O-line coach would swing a fungo bat at us. If we came out of our stance too high, we got popped in the helmet.

These kids that whine today about a coach getting in their face and challenging them are pathetic. People that feel that a coach shouldn't grab a face mask or two are the same people that think that kids shouldn't compete and win and that all participants should get the same medal or trophy. They are wimps.

If KU were winning, this would be a non-issue. Since they're not....it's being brought to peoples attention.

Exactly. The proverbial "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

As we've brought up a hundred times so far, they're not going to find a better coach willing to come to Kansas.

The parking ticket issue seems like more than just a minor deal. According to THIS PDF, Mangino's temper gets the better of him sometimes. He went all Sam Keller on this kid. It's one thing when a student gets in another student's face, but when faculty or staff does it, it's a different story.

Here's A LINK to one of the parking tickets.

Here's A LINK to the student's account of the incident. It bears noting that this happened in 2007.

Wow. So Mangino doesn't have time to pay a parking ticket . . . but he does have time to berate a parking official for 10 minutes. Interesting.

In junior highschool my football coach was an ex Marine corp drill instructor. We went undefeated and crushed every team we faced. Nobody ever complained about his yelling or holding of your facemask on the sideline if you made a mistake, we just played harder. I don't how kids would react to those methods 20+ years later.

as others have said its all about the losing.

He has had a piss poor attitude for years. An assistant that was known to have a bad attitude and become aggresive went on to become a HC with those same traits. He is called big bear, for gods sake. Players say he is a not a teddy bear but a grizzily instead. He berates school employees and gets kicked out of HS football games. There has, IMHO, always been issues with him. Difference is, at 5-1 in conference the AD tells you to man up and get over it. at 1-5 he looks at a replacement

as for you that had a nose grinder as a coach. my question is, did you win? The meanest SOB i ever had as a coach was smart, aggresive and a winner. He called us p*ssies and girls almost everyday. We spent new years day running for 2 hours because he was hungover and in a bad mood. We ran loose ball drills in basketball that made my HS football fumble drills look like they were made for 4th grade girls. He broke us down then built us back up. Although he could be an a**, he did care about us. And we won, ALOT. He was my eight grade BB coach and I love him to this day.

However i had a coach just like him on vasity football in HS. Except he was ignorant and never cared for his players. And we lost. Much more than any of us were used too. And i still dispise him to this day.

And that's just stupid, on both fronts. If he has anger control issues you have to have integrity enough to take charge of them even if he's winning. Nebraska had a stretch of success in the 90s, but we had off-field character issues galore with our players. The black eyes linger today, and they're not worth it. Winning isn't worth selling your soul.

But at the same time, if you're willing to tolerate those issues because the coach is winning, it's stupid to then use them as an excuse to terminate the guy if you have a bad season. Kansas is WAY better than a 1-5 conference record, suspect defense or not. This season shouldn't get a guy who just went 12-1 two years ago fired.

It's ridiculous! When all that crap came about the football and basketball players brawling in broad daylight on campus....swept er under the rug. Let's see that was september 23rd reported in newspapers....hmmm KU was 3-0.

Even if our KU friends (I use that word lightly) wouldn’t admit it, KU has had control issues for years. They only care about winning. Break the rules…are you winning?...then it doesn’t matter. Mangino did have team assistants taking his players tests for them just a few years ago. He was on the verge of being fired going into 2007. He cleaned up a weak schedule, had his AD basically buy their trip to the Orange Bowl over better and more qualified teams.

Nobody at KU cares what those players do as long as they win. Integrity and ethics are not words that are in the KU vocabulary

Just as you said, winning, who cares??? Start losing and pull the same stuff…your job is on the line.

Got Callahan fired. He wasnt 12-1, but if he had played KU's schedule in 07 he probably would have been.

You really didn't understand what was going on here if you think that's what got Callahan fired. ;)

I'll bet KU football sinks back the deep dark abyss if/when Mangino is let go.

Will that be because when he leaves, his gravitational pull will create a black hole in which everything will get sucked into and be unable to escape for all eternity??? Crap...another Mangino fat joke. They are too easy! My apologies.

:yeah

cally was a number of things. Mangino is not innocent either. Cally was guilty of being an arrogant a** who laughed at the traditions and fans of Nebraska. People here got pissed because they wanted to win and didn’t think he got the 'Nebraska way'. So when he put up his second poor season out of three he was canned

Mangino has had institutional control issues, has had a number of issues with the behavior of his players and his behavior as the face of the KU program. And now thanks to some bandwagon fans and a false support of wish wash fans they think they are a football school and should be contending for big 12 championships every year even though they have failed to ever win the division. And by threatening to not make a bowl for the second straight year with the best talent the school has ever had, those fans are demanding a winner. Rightfully or not you sleep in the bed you make. He took all the credit for playing and beating nobodies. He gladly accepted coach of the year and a big raise. He took all the credit for playing in a bowl game that everyone in the country knew they didn’t deserve and acted like he was some great coach because of those things. Well Mark you needed a miracle to make a bowl last year and will need the same thing this year with a team full of senior talent. If he gets canned for it, then I don’t feel sorry for him. He built his house on cards, let it fold on him.

Nice to have an unbiased opinion around here for a change.

There's a lot of talk about Gill to KU, does anyone here think a 1-5 conference or 3-7 overall record may make it tough for TG to escape Buffalo this season?

I would have posted this 2 hours ago, but got stuck staring at Pornhusker's avatar.
