Running the Option - Is it suitable for every offense?

Recommended Posts

Should an offense be running Option plays if the QB is not a running threat? Absolutely not. Do you see teams teams using the Option if their QB (Daunte Culpepper for example) is not a running threat? Absolutely not.

So why does Nebraska's current offense run the Option? We do not have a running threat like Tommie Frazier or Eric Crouch

Actually Culpepper was a running threat.

He rushed for over 1,000 yards in his career at UCF. Just take a look at his NFL stats while with the Vikings, he averaged like 60 carries a year his first several years. He ran like he was an athletic tight end.

If you want people to even attempt to take your posts seriously, you should post something serious. JMO

Since it is thanksgiving, try giving thanks to the team that has put together an 8-3 season so far, it is a TEAM effort. I think we ALL get it by now, you don't like Zac Lee...move along <_<

Zac Lee is athletic... but he has NEVER run the option prior to a few weeks ago. The read play is totally different than a power or speed option. Right now that play isn't working because the defense doesn't respect Lee, and he is running it very tentatively.

Practice makes perfect, and the more he works on it the better he will be. Give it time and we will see it pick up some first downs...

i dont understand this. Bo has been here for less than two full seasons and we're already questioning him. we need to have faith in him and his decisions. bitching about personnel and players isnt going to help anything. i didnt hear anyone bitching about watson during his tenure here with callahan, nor did i hear anyone bitching about him last year when we were putting up mad points on people. ok, zac lee hasnt been performing up to expectations. we've got a first year starter in. cut the dude some slack. we're still trying to figure out how to use the pieces we've got. one thing some people aren't getting is that we are getting BETTER as the season goes along. you can throw out the first few games against those sunbelt teams, they didnt do anything to expose any of our weakness'. im confident that our coaching staff can use the lessons we've learned this year and make the rest a great year and set us up for success next year.

You're serious right? You have been uncovered as a unthinking Husker bashing troll time and time again, but yet keep regurgitating refuse that bears not even a glimmer of rational thought. By any other standards, it doesn't even rise to the level of using the  , :wtf , or :lame smileys.

You mean the very same Daunte Culpepper, who was beating the 1997 National Championship team 17-14 at halftime Sept. 13, 1997 in Lincoln? You mean the very same Daunte Culpepper, who rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown (Scott Frost rushed for 58 yards and a TD that game), then threw the ball for 318 yards for two more touchdowns against the Blackshirts? That guy?

Back then, Osborne was quoted saying if Culpepper had gone to a more prestigious school he would have been a candidate for the Heisman. He finished sixth for the Heisman in 1998.

Culpepper also set an NCAA record for single-season completion percentage at .736, breaking a 15-year-old mark set by Steve Young (.713) and accomplished a feat equaled by only two others in NCAA history when he topped the 10,000 yard passing mark and the 1,000 yard rushing mark in his career. He finished his career sixth on the NCAA's all-time total offense list for all divisions with 12,459 yards and was responsible for 108 career touchdowns (84 passing, 24 rushing). That guy?

Do us all a favor and save yourself an embarrassment of these idiotic posts.

I agree with this, Lee is new to the option, give him sometime to wrap his arms around it. I'm sure he'll get more confident running it with the more time he does it.
