Foppa
ESPN's minor league guru rated Starling the #5 prospect in the Royal's farm system. Not bad for a group that is well-regarded and the first on the Royal's list not in the Top 100 overall. However, the write-up leaves a less-than-rosy picture. He was listed as the "bad news" for Royals fans and stated that he was "miserable" before undergoing LASIK surgery last summer and wasn't a lot better after that. Many think his swing is not smooth enough and he misses a lot of pitches. Forgot he was the #5 overall pick. Harrison will likely be well down from that. Perhaps Harrison will be catching passing from Starling in a couple year. Can you imagine having both of them playing football and baseball at Nebraska?! That'd be pretty sweet. But Bubba probably couldn't since he's played at the (kind of) professional level and got paid, right? Not sure how it works for baseball. Edit: Lyons beat me to that question. Quote Link to comment
RedRedJarvisRedwine
Would he be allowed to play baseball if he came back to school? Or just football?REALLY! You're just funnin around right? Getting paid to play Baseball as we speak. Can't return to college to play baseball. Quote Link to comment

There are so many damn rules within the ncaa I can't keep them all straight. I didn't think he could, but I thought I'd double check. Quote Link to comment

He got drafted in 2010 by the Rockies and played two seasons for their affiliated teams before going to Wisconsin. He got paid to play, obviously. Sounds like a similar situation to Bubba if he did now play football in college. Quote Link to comment

Lyons in the Sea of Red.
How does this differ from those kids who play on the stars and what not and then get Schollies at D1 schools? It's obviously not a professional gig but I do believe they still get some payment. Quote Link to comment
RedRedJarvisRedwine
I don't know about that but once they sign with an agent they forfeit their amateur status for baseball. Quote Link to comment
Thanks_Tom RR
It is interesting that you can loss your eligibility for one NCAA sport for playing professional but can play any other. Quote Link to comment
RedRedJarvisRedwine
Yeah I don't understand that. On the plus side, if he were to come back and play football he can pay his own way and not use up a schollie. Quote Link to comment
zeWilbur
It used to be that you could not go pro in any sport until Jeremy Bloom in 2006. They changed the rule the year after screwing him over. Quote Link to comment
dylan
Ricky Williams and others played minor league baseball during their college football careers prior to the bloom case. 1 Quote Link to comment
zeWilbur
Did not remember that. Then why did they take away Bloom's football eligibility and leave Williams' in tact? Quote Link to comment
dylan
Pretty sure with bloom it was sponsorship money versus getting paid for a different sport. Many Olympic athletes live and/or train on corporate sponsorships. Start allowing sponsorship money to college athletes and anyone can funnel money to these kids. Quote Link to comment
