sd'sker
One third down, two to go... keep em comin. I know there are at least 30-40 games Saturday but I'm still missing a good chunk that have already been played. i don't want to give you more work, but you should find the seating capacity as well, just to see the ratio of sales to available seats. You're killin me here. i know, and it was just a thought. but i thought an interesting indicator would be what the percentage of the stadium was filled. because those numbers are just numbers, like va. tech has a small stadium so they may seem like they had low attendance, but they may have been closer to a sellout than us; and ohio st. may seem like it was packed, but it may be no where near capacity. husker B-rent
right here is the reason that the SEC and the Big 10 have the best tv contracts! look at those numbers! we lead the big 12 in fan support and its not close!! texas just got back from a MNC appearance and have the biggest population in the conference and only have 50000 attendees!!! OU=WTF?!?! 12000!! we will never have the tv contracts that the big 10 or sec have because THE OTHER TEAMS in the contract lack real fan support! and the worst part is that they say we support our team because we have nothing else to do, but are you going to say the same about florida? alabama? etc etc? i honestly wish that we could switch conferences and get away from the second rate teams. Kruzu
Do you think that the NU attendance would go up if the game was free? I really dont think it would, I think that it could be 20 dollars and NU would get the same amount as if it were free. I agree. Kind of. I think the attendance would increase a bit, but not drastically. I gotta think a few thousand more people wouls drift into the stadium if the game were free. $10 bucks a tichet might seem inexpensive to most but you throw in a hot dog and soda, maybe parking etc. and it's probably keeping a number of Lincolnites out of the seats Quote Link to comment
jsneb83
Off an ESPN Big East blog Here are the estimated attendances from the five Big East spring games this weekend: Connecticut: 2,500 Louisville: 5,600 Pitt: 6,500 USF: 6,350 Syracuse: 4,750 And now here are some attendance figures from other BCS teams' spring games this year: Miami: 10,000 Oklahoma: 16,481 South Carolina: 22,000 LSU: 22,710 NC State 25,370 Clemson: 27,000 North Carolina: 29,000 Michigan: 35,000 Tennessee: 35,800 Texas: 44,250 Florida State: 50,000 Alabama: 91,300 Quote Link to comment

I'll bet there are a lot of people in Lincoln and Omaha who would have gone if it was free but simply didn't bother going because it was $10 a ticket. If someone has a large family $10 a ticket is pretty pricey just to watch the team practice, but if it was free it makes for a nice family outing for the day. Quote Link to comment

fro daddy
about the money issue. I think that teams do what they can do, for the most part. Ne CAN charge $10 a ticket and still have a nearly packed house, so they do. Some teams, Kansas, have no charge and give away free t-shirts just for coming in. Because they have to do something to get people there. Every one is different. But I like when its charity driven. I know a number of teams do that. Even if NU donoted just 1/2 of the ticket price they could have written a check for $389,680 to a local Nebraska or Omaha/Lincoln charity. Thats huge. I know Mu does theirs for the local food bank. $3 or 3 caned food items. $45,000 or 45,000 cans of food where raised. Larger programs are very profitable, so maybe its just the way I am. But when presented an excellent chance to give back, i believe you should do so. Especially when you are state funded. just my $0.02 Quote Link to comment

When I want money to go to charity I give money to charity. When I give money to Nebraska football, I want the money to go to Nebraska football. I would guess that most fans who purchased tickets felt similarly. Edit: Also, MU gave $45,000 to charity . . . and you are saying that NU should give $400,000 to charity? Aren't MU fans the ones who constantly complain about revenue inequity? Yet you think Nebraska should give 10 times as much as MU to charity. Interesting. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I felt good about getting into the Spring Game to watch Touchdown Tommie Frazier & Co. back in the day when all I had to do was bring a can of food and find a seat amongst 10,000 of my closest friends. I wouldn't mind if UNL gave 10% of the Spring Game ticket sales to charity. That'd be cool. Quote Link to comment

I may be wrong but I think the cash (if you brought cash, and it was like $2, not $5) went to the charity, too. I don't think it went to UNL. Quote Link to comment
Vince from ShamWOW
Looking at the Alabama/Auburn numbers, they are amazing. There are some serious fans there. Neither of which had a respectable Spring game showings until NU had 80K+. Just like NU was the first team in all of football to hold up four fingers at the beginning of the 4th Q (Orange Bowl vs Miami 1995) others are there to copy The Huskers. 1 Quote Link to comment
