Iowa Thanksgiving?

Me either. I think you either have to live near the border or in Iowa, or have some sort of daily interaction with Iowegians to care about them. Aside from the random posts of hatred around here, I can't say I've thought about Iowa or their fans five times since this whole expansion thing came up. I'm more interested in rubbing elbows with OSU, PSU, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Agree, Iowa seems to share CU's inferiority complex. I do live in Iowa, and for the most part get along with Iowa fans. I dont see them as rude as CU.

 

I was hoping to have Penn St as the last game, oh well.

I disagree with the bold part. I've lived in a small town in Nebraska and on the other side of the river is Sioux City, IA. I've never had a problem with Hawkeye fans and their program till I went to college in 02' in Iowa. Since then I have got soo much crap from Hawkeye fans after every Husker loss for no apparent reason and the two lossing seasons that we had. I never give anybody crap when their favorite team loses because I hate it when people do that to me. I've never understood why I got so much crap from Hawkeye fans because we were not in the Big 10 at that time nor did we play them every year.

 

Iowa hates Nebraska and they hate us with a passion believe that, thats why I'm calling Iowa the Colorado of the Big 10. I've never hated Iowa more in the past 4 years because of the constant crap I get from their fanbase.

Which town did you live in, I'm up from that area too. I agree, most people aren't bad, just some of my friends that are Iowa fans give me a hard time, but otherwise they aren't a problem at all.

The more I think about Iowa I see them like a Colorado or a Missouri. I do hope we keep the day after Thanksgiving as game day. Having Penn State for that date would be epic as two premier programs would be awesome. Iowa would be my second choice as a border war for that date.

Nebraksa will have an annual match-up with PSU as a consolation prize. I guess having the game as the last game of the season is the most important aspect of the "rival game"???

Rivalries are determined on the field, not in the years before we play them or the few times we have played in the past. Just because we play them after thankgiving and the last game before the ccg doesnt mean they automatically become out rival. Who knows how long it will take for us to gain new rivals, but it will happen. How couldnt it. We will play some big time games in the future(michigan, penn state, iowa, osu, wisconsin).

 

It is fun to talk about rivalries and all but, I will temper my judgement until we get to big 10 play.

 

 

Exactly. The fans don't "pick" the Husker rival. It happens naturally. If lots of kids on both teams are from the same region, as will be the case with NU & Iowa, then sometimes that makes the rival come to life. It will happen on the field over a little time.

Iowa or Colorado for the last game of the regular season? No brainer, I haven't heard any stories of piss bombs leaving the stands in Iowa City, although they did make Erin Andrews so upset that she won't do games there.

 

They just wrapped up Ferentz for the rest of the decade so they will probably be relevant for awhile. The game will more than likely decide who gets to play Ohio St for the B10 title each year.

NU has played Iowa 40 times throughout history which is the second most for any Non Conference opponent that NU has ever played (Minnesota is #1 at 51 games)

 

Oklahoma now has Texas (which I still hate to say)

 

OU has NOW had Texas since 1900, which is before they started playing NU.

My thoughts exactly. Me thinks our most heated rivalry in the Big 10 will spark from what happens on the field (eg. 00:01), and/or the team with the biggest impact on our road to a conference title (eg. Oklahoma pre-Big12). Seeing as that we'll be facing Penn St and Iowa every year, I think there's a good chance one or both of those teams will be our primary rivals. As long as we all finish as the top 3 in our division, we'll be in each other's way and therefore have stronger emotional ties to who gets through that gauntlet as the victor.
