billdozer15
those calling for a 'better' pass rush clearly dont understand the pelini's defense. Our DTs had lots of sacks and TFL's last year. How can you say that the Pelinis' defense doesn't require some pressure from the front 4? EDIT: Maybe "require" isn't the right word, but it's certainly designed to produce mayhem with the DL. I think what he is getting at is the fact that our goal wasnt to get after Locker but more to contain him and make him throw and get coverage sacks. The one play the D line bull rushed Locker on he took off and scored a TD. The D-lines goal with mobile QBs is to contain and prevent him from moving side to side. Quote Link to comment
mmmtodd
how can you say the pressure wasnt there? with four guys rushing we do what takes other teams 5 or 6 guys to do. sure, not tfl loss, sacks, whatnot, but as it was put by the coaching staff after the first game, when a team throttles back their passing game its pretty tough to rack up those stats. 4/20 passing, and all of a sudden our defensive line isnt doing a good enough job? puhlease. its not all on the secondary. Sure, it's obvious that Washington (and WKU and Idaho) minimized the impact of our DL by design, but you think teams weren't trying to do that last year, too? Locker might have been rolling out a lot, handing off a lot, etc. I figured the DL would have at least gotten a few more hits on him, though. Furthermore, that 4/20 passing was due mostly to the blanket coverage that our all-freaking-world secondary put on the Washington receivers. hmm. good thing we can run the d back heavy packages with our inept front four so they are able to shut down the passing game. its a team sport. the front four are obviously good to be able to run this defense. period. the thread title says it all. bshirt
Need a more legit vertical passing game. Tmart completed 7 of 11 passes for a TD, zero picks and ran WILD (for another 3 TDs) over UW. Ya know...led NU to 56 points. It's just downright amazing what some will bitch about. Quote Link to comment

huKSer
Can I be negative about the Head Line Judge? That guy was ATROCIOUS. He consistently marked the ball a foot or two short on Husker runs and a foot or two long on Huskie runs. Bo even challenged the spot at one point, just to let them know he was paying attention. Burkhead even refused to give that guy the ball after Bo made that challenge, instead taking it to a different official near the center of the field. This was one of the worst officiating jobs I've seen in quite a long time. And it wasn't just spotting the ball - it was Prince's "holding" penalty which happens nearly every play on both sides of the ball but was only called when we picked off Locker. It was the holding calls on the Huskers (only a couple) but none on Washington unless it was absolutely impossible not to call (what, once that happened?). It was the false starts on both offenses that weren't called - Helu was moving several times prior to the snap, I know. I'll be a negative nelly about the officials. No problem. Do you remember the OU - Oregon debackal(sp?) (post when you're drunk bump coming up) a few years back? Neutral officiating crew for inter conference games! Totally agree! Horrible spotting of the ball. Even the challenge I was like...WTF did you even review the spot? Quote Link to comment

Whistlebritches
My only complaint was that I didn't get to watch the end of the game because we got 'bonus' coverage instead. Putting the better game on ABC is fine but at least shift us to espn2 instead of having the same game on both channels. How dumb. 1 Quote Link to comment

epocSoN
Our passing game isn't suppose to be vertical... welcome to the west coast passing offense... Quote Link to comment
ESPY
People that are worried about a strong running attack need to realize that when NU plays a team like that, that NU will plan to defend it. Look, I have coached football for 10 years now and when we play a spread team, we prepare for that and change things. When we play a power running running team, we prepare for that and change things. My guess is that for a power running team like say, Kstate, we might see 5 Dlinemen in the game, with two linebackers and 5 DBs. I hope not or we would get a lot of flags for 12 men on the field Ha! So much for that plan Quote Link to comment

I am happy Taylor Martinez committed to Nebraska and will QB this team for the next four seasons!!!! He makes the defenses defend all 11. Quote Link to comment

Yeah I laughed when he couldn't decide whether to call one of our runs a touchdown or not. He put his arms half way up but then pulled them back down. Quote Link to comment
