B.B. Hemingway
Which Nebraska newspaper do you think covers the Huskers better.... Up until this year I preferred the Journal Star, but the World Herald has really done a wonderful job lately....So, what say you.... Quote Link to comment
RedDenver
Sam McKewon is the only local writer really worth reading. The other guys put out some good stuff occasionally. 2 Quote Link to comment
Axl_sued_me
Neither. I come here to HB and follow the writers of both papers to get news and updates. Quote Link to comment
HuskerElse
With Sam McKewon at owh I think they are better now. Before mckewon though I preferred ljs Quote Link to comment
tschu
OWH because thats what I grew up on. But LJS is fine too. OWH has Shatel, who some hate but I enjoy. And now McKewon who is probably the best. 1 Quote Link to comment
B.B. Hemingway
McKweon has definitely gave the World Herald some life. They seem to have a loaded staff, and seem to put out twice the stories/blogs that the Journal Star does. McKweon, Shatel, Chatlein (who most don't like, but I appreciate his honesty), and Nwaytaya(?). Hard line up to beat. Quote Link to comment
beanman
OWH especially with Sam there. Sipple's articles just don't do it for me... Quote Link to comment
GMoose
OWH for me. I'll say it, I'm a fan of both Shatel and Dirk. I do love Brian Christopherson as a writer, and Sipple as voice-of-reason guy doing radio spots and TV stuff. McKewon only made the World Herald better, too. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Chatlein (who most don't like, but I appreciate his honesty) Yeah, Dirk generally bores the hell out of me, and mixed in with that he has some really bizarre opinions from time to time. Quote Link to comment
okaive
They still put out newspapers? Quote Link to comment
NUance
Tough call now that McKewon is with OWH. It's about a toss up. But I'm going with LJS. I like Sipple and Christopherson. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I don't hold loyalty to either paper. I like individual writers, including Sipple, McKewon, Christopherson and Nyatawa, but the reality is that I'll usually read about anything from about anyone. The LJS is hamstrung by some really bone-headed corporate decisions on their community stuff (Life In The Red) which makes it nearly unusable for me. I tried out the OWH forums and they're pretty much nothing, too. As far as tertiary amenities I'd call it a wash, although you have to tip your cap to the recruiting stuff the Weird Harold his doing. The OWH was an afterthought before they added Sam, though. Brilliant move on their part, and very much needed. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nebula
I saw this morning that Lee Barfknecht is still alive and picking against Nebraska. I also noticed that the sun continues to rise in the east. LJS. Quote Link to comment
da skers
LJS until last season blew OWH out of the water as far as info and amount of content. Thats when BC was new and hungry. I don't know if they got lazy or if budget cuts from their parent companies financial doom have changed the amount of reporting. They went from 3 or 4 stories a day to one or two. Last year the OWH pretty much only put out garbage but they put it out in full force with several stories a day. I would have rather read good stuff less often than lots of piles of poop but they were trying. Now OWH has added Sam. The info is much better and actually has some thoughts that are objective rather than all hate all the time. That being said...if you read their stuff one guy is usually giving exactly the same info someone else gave about practice. As soon as they thin that down...it will be much much better.
