knapplc
I want to see the teams come to blows over this argument on the field. I pushed for this to be our big "rivalry" game this summer but nobody would listen to me. I called it "The Game For The Name," and I had a trophy idea (large silver "NU" on a wooden podium base, with engraved plaques indicating who won the game and got to use the name for the year). Everyone pointed and laughed. There were some rotten tomatoes thrown. It got ugly. I may have pouted. C'est la vie. Quote Link to comment

Seeing as how they named the divisions Leaders and Legends, I'm not so sure your proposal fell on deaf ears over at the Big Ten offices... Quote Link to comment
Haspula
Nebraska isn't facing Nebraska. That was the red-white game Quote Link to comment
WoodyHayes1951
You Husker fans really got a great draw in the Legends division in terms of teams. You got all of our easy games while we get the annoying teams like UW and UIUC : / Minny,Northwestern and Iowa should be relatively easy to win 95% of the time. Quote Link to comment

WoodyHayes1951
You guys will find the annoying team that gives you trouble even when they're no good. Happens to us all. Just got to take a sample of about a decade. Just stating that I'd rather have Iowa,Northwestern and Minny in our division We can trade for UW,Illinois and PU Quote Link to comment
scarletNcream
Something to talk about since there's no fb for a couple weeks. I'm sure everyone has noticed how the BTN is calling us NEB, and Northwestern NU. At first I was ticked off about that, because we're the REAL NU, but now, I'm cool with NEB. I'm from outstate Nebraska originally, Scottsbluff, and honestly the only connection we had with you all back east was the Huskers. The Panhandle is not the Midwest; we have lots more in common with Wyoming and Colorado than Lincoln and Omaha. To me, the Husks represent the whole STATE, not primarily just the university. NEB reflects that more than NU. Especially now that us folks out here in God's country are deprived of even every other year game in Boulder, and the nearest Husk game for us in Lincoln. In short, I know there's a lot of tradition in NU, but there was a lot of tradition in a lot of things that no more now that we're in the B1G, and I prefer NEB. Anyone else? Wow, how old are you, I used to get grief for saying that, still do, but very few say it anymore. Rep the old school talk. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
How about Nebraska and Northwestern? I don't think I've ever in my life used abbreviations for schools except a small few (USC being the only I can think of) while actually speaking. Type is different, but 99 times out of 100 the context of which school you're referring to should be pretty obvious. We can both be NU as far as I'm concerned, but Northwestern is NOT NW, and to say so is silly and factually incorrect, especially if we insist on being NU. Quote Link to comment
huskerauggie
How about a simple N? haha Agreed. That'd be pretty Awesome to see on the little ESPN scoreboard on the TV: MSU ǀ 3 N ǀ 24 Works for me... Any takers? Quote Link to comment
zoogs
I'm cool with NEB or NU, as long as Northwestern isn't NU. That's just confusing. Even if you call us NEB, call Northwestern something that makes sense, like NW. Quote Link to comment

Even if you call us NEB, call Northwestern something that makes sense, like NW. NU makes sense, since they are Northwestern University. The 'w' is not capitalized, as it is not an independent word. That would be like calling us Nb, or UNLn Quote Link to comment
zoogs
That analogy would make sense if Nebraska were the concatenation of two words, 'Ne' and 'Braska', the way NW is the concatenation of "north' and 'western'. NW is by far the most sensible way -and unique - way to abbreviate Northwestern University. It is the same reason the Southeastern Conference is referred to as the SEC, rather than the SC Quote Link to comment
