I wish 3D would die already

It won't--it's a 'feature' that gives TV manufacturers license to jack up the prices on their new TVs, while the same sets without 3D drop like a stone in price.

What we should be saving our hard-earned money for is passive-3D viewing technology--that is, 3D without the glasses using unseen 'shutters' built into the display device. You already have this technology in handheld devices (read: Nintendo 3DS), and the industry has said this is what they're aiming for in the next few years.

Until then, 3D in its current state is little improved over the 1950s fad and should be avoided, especially if you have children under six (3D viewing is not good for children under six, as their eyes are still developing and may not be able to handle the images--even the Nintendo handheld says as much).

Passive or not it's going to be a fad until it comes to the point it can be projected in 3d sci-fi style. Right now it's an actually eye damaging, headache causing, attempt to dupe silly people out of more of their money marketing gimmick.

It was already here last year. LG had a 42in and a huge screen set up at a trade show back east last year. Didn't need glasses for it. Talked about it coming out in 2011. Haven't heard any thing on it since.

GBR!!!

3-D is getting to be the norm anymore. Directv has a handfull of 3-d stations and almost all the new movies will be in 3-D format. Im not a big fan of it myself. Our local movie theater is a non profit group and they have to shell out a ton of money for a new projector otherwise they wont have access to new movies starting in January.

Has nothing to do with 3D. It's because those companies are no longer shipping movies on reel. The projector they are buying is digital, so they'll download the movies now. (my theater back home is being forced to do the same thing) Also means anyone with elementary computer skills can run your projector. Before someone had to load the reels and bind the tape, etc. It probably supports 3D, but in no way is 3D the cause behind the upgrade. It will also allow your theater to show live productions, and other events (like Husker games) if they choose.

I have 2 60" Samsung D8000's. The 3D is pretty awesome. I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't like 3D. Most of the people I hear bashing 3D are just people that don't have it :) It's certainly not something that I watch every day - but the glasses that came with the D8000 (they are the best one samsung makes) are so light you don't even notice you're wearing them. The TV can also convert almost any HD 2D to 3D as well. It's not as good as a movie, but it adds depth and is a pretty cool effect. 3D has it's place. It's not something you'll be watching constantly, but there is certainly a market for it. Just probably not the demographic of this board.

I'd be pretty happy if the TV station's would just let us to pan to different camera angles throughout a ballgame. If they can do it in naughty movies, why can't they do it for my football game?

God knows some of them can't get a good camera angle on a football game to save their lives (looking at you abc).

Now all the Football Video guys will be downloading porn. Strictly for research purposes of course.

Huge waste of money. I have 110" 3D projector in my theatre. Bought it last year thinking I don't want to have antiquated technology in a couple years as it looked like that's where everything was headed. Paid several grand more for it than a regular projector. Watched a couple things on it when I first got it thinking it was kinda cool. Now, over a year later, I never watch the thing in 3D. Once the inititial cool factor wore off, it is all hat and no cattle. DirecTV has 3-4 channels which are the same 3-4 that it had over a year ago despite predictions that more and more channels would be continually added. But even if every channel broadcast in 3D, I'd MUCH rather watch in HD as it is a much better viewing experience. Even my 9 year old chooses regular HD or BlueRay over 3D when given the choice so I know it's not just that I'm getting old. I don't even ask anymore. Haven't watched in 3D in over a year. Huge waste of money on my part...just ask my wife!! :)

Thats because you bought technology in its first year infancy and it was garbage just as HD was 1n 1999 when I bought a Mitsubishi and watched a lighthouse for 2 years and an occasional football game with so many artifacts it was unwatchable. I have a theater with a 12' 2.35:1 screen and still haven't seen the proper projector yet. There are several TVs that let you wear the "theater glasses" and they just came out this month. Never buy the newest techno and expect decent results

You're dead on with me buying new technology WAY too early. I should have known better as I have a personal rule not to do that. But this was such a sizable investment that I really didn't want to be replacing it in a few years because everything had moved to 3D. That being said, the quality of the 3D product I have is not the issue. It shows about as good as any movie theater I've been in and the glasses are about like what I'm seeing in stores now. The issue is that 3D is just not that great of a watching experience. Give me HD all day...both at home and in theaters.

Yeah I've been holding out on a projector as well, actually I just purchased a new bulb so I will wait til next year to see if they have it reasonably priced and perfected. You can get a really nice setup for over 10k for a 12' screen using the lightweight theater glasses but Im waiting it out for quite awhile yet. They don't even have any decent titles yet.
