Sports Journalism hits a new low.

Why do you guys get so riled up over this sh#t?

Because I expect professional journalists to do a professional job, and when they don't, I get upset about it.

I suppose you sit calmly while amateur athletes muck around the football field, dropping passes and blowing coverages? Or do you get riled up? Same thing.

Why do you guys get so riled up over this sh#t? Most of these scrawney-ass journalists never played sports. Do you form your opinions on the state of our team based on their articles or based on what you see when you watch us? Because I know I go off of what I observe. I really don't care what that little weenie Dirk thinks or what Shatel thinks. Everybody needs to chill out and enjoy the last part of recruiting and hopefully some positive stuff coming out of spring ball.

The correlation between the ability to understand sports and the ability to play sports is probably about 0.2.

For the record....our AP writer for Nebraska football along with another OWH reporter are wanting to write a negative story on Bo in the up coming days. I say wanting because they are calling boosters and asking loaded questions that are in a negative slant to serve the purpose of the story. One guy is already stating he was not asked a single positive question about Bo in the 10 minutes he talked to this reporter and he pointed it out to the guy. I can't believe these guys call themselves reporters doing that crap and I wish UNL would set up more Randy York stuff and send it out daily to the news papers to counter act this type of crap. They are being very specific and trying to generate a negative response. As a former journalist, stuff like this pisses me off. These two guys are going out of their way to try and create hate for a public individual that can't even legally protect himself. And they wonder why they get short, sh#t answers when they ask them.

Please remember this when you're reading the "spin" from a couple of guys with no journalistic integrity what so ever.

Whats your point? The two major papers (well 1.25) should sunshine pump the Program at all costs? Bo has issues, maybe those need to be talked about, the public mind set a little riled up right now, and the OWH is going to feed into that. Both the LJS and OWH have been (rightly) accused of eating out of UNL's hand, maybe the OWH wants to change the status quo a little...

If you are connected as you claim to be, you know the media has sat on at least one story about Bo's behaviour off the field, and ignored the 500 pound gorilla that was Carls home life, that was the worst kept secret in Lancaster county, and not one word from either. In the end people should be able to understand a hit piece, if that is truley what it is. Should the OWH go out of its way to bash Bo, no, but if a negative article can create usefull discussion, then it might not be a bad thing.

Why is Carl's divorce anyone's business? If one of us has marriage problems it isn't for public. It shouldn't be any different for a coach. So I don't see how that's a gorilla for anyone. And Id have to know which other rumor you're addressing. Bo's done everything from punch his kids coach to destroy TO's office. I would hope you're not that dense.

OK now.. now who's sensationalizing? I get so sick and tired of reading this rumor b.s. without any bit of evidence to back it up. If you're going to make such a slanderous claim, then back it up!! You come off like a tattle-tale little sister who says, "I know something bad about you, and I'm not telling!!!"

So, hey moderator-- since you're always locking threads that you deem irrelevant, and let other threads which start off on topic, and then become hundreds of posts of personal chatter, and unrelated talk--- then take control here. I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing people that post slanderous claims without backing it up!

Very well, continue the whaa-fest. I guess I just care more about what happens on the field than what's written about it.

Who cares?

Man.. you guys bring homer and butt hurt to the whole next level. Who cares if they want to write a negative story about Bo. He hasnt really done much to deserve glowing words. He has this program at a middle of the pack level and his attitude makes the program look worse.

I swear some husker fans get so butt hurt if any journalist says a negative word about the Huskers. IT IS TEHRE JOB TO GIVE BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN! Dirk, Kugler and many others are Husker fans but they arent going to blow smoke up everyones backsides.

Do you really need to create a thread saying journalism is negative cause it isnt all rainbows and ponies?

freaking homers.

So, in your world, Dirk Chatelain is writing articles based solely on truth, he's a Husker fan, but he's doing what he does out of a desire "to tell the whole story."

That's a fairly significant level of denial you're living with. Good luck with that.

Why does everyone say Dirk is a Husker fan? He had an article at the beginning of the season (wish I could find it) where he basically said he wasn't a fan, but a person of interest, or something to that effect. Of course he's interested, it's his job. If anyone remembers the article, and can find it, that'd be great. I know, that's not much to go on, but when I saw the article, I immediately thought, "this guy covers the Huskers and doesn't even like them?"

In a country based on free speech and free will it's amazing how much the media can influence the entire nation. Nobody has their own opinion anymore. Hell, Bo Pelini himself has come out and spoken against the Husker fan base. Why? Because he has been influenced only by the majority of what he has heard or read. Just because he only hears the negativity does that mean that is the majority? I know for a fact it is not the majority. Yet he takes on this us against the world mentality as if Husker fans are out to get him. The media are scumbags. All of them. Journalism has no honor anymore. The sooner everyone learns that, the better.

I think that Pelini's negativity is directed more towards the media then the fanbase.... As competitive as he is, sometimes I wonder if he really understands how much we (Nebraskans) want to win, but then again who does outside of our great state....

And you don't think Pelini wants to win every game as much as the fans do. Hell, you'd think that he would have more desire to win as his job is based off of it.

Dude, its a message board on the internet.... not a dictionary. People talk about opinions, rummors, ect. Relax and learn how to skim past stupid posts, it saves you time and a few grey hairs :)

I listened to the first 13 minutes of USC today, hoping to hear them talk about this issue. Then they started talking about how South Park's Penn State jokes were "too soon" and that they weren't funny, and I thought to myself, "Why am I listening to a show where the co-hosts are too stupid to understand South Park?"

Kugs and Severe are great... If you cant handle their humor.. That is on you.

At what point did I say I couldn't handle their humor? My post was about them not being smart enough to understand the humor of South Park.

They get paid more money when they find controversy.

South Park and humor are different. South park tends try to bring humor to offensive things way too soon, so soon that it might be offensive to a lot of people that just aren't ready for it.

As an alternative to that completely offensive humor, I'd simply suggest that all those people that think southpark is classless and in general bad taste with their humor, rent the movie "the Aristocrats". That movie is a shining beacon of classic humor. Watch it with your kids.

Well, the creators of South Park abide by one creed - either everything is ok to make fun of, or nothing is.

That being said, Severe and Kugler didn't even get South Park's Penn State jokes. The whole episode played on the notion that South Park is expected to comment on events like this immediately, and the whole joke was that those jokes are lame. The character that South Park introduced to tell all of the Penn State jokes was this buffoon who spit out one-liner after one-liner, each one less funny than the last, while passing out his head shot to everyone he met as if he thought he was some up and coming comedic star.

South Park wasn't making fun of the Penn State situation, they were making fun of people who were making fun of the Penn State situation. And the fact that Kugler and Severe were apparently too dense to understand that is why I decided it's OK to turn off the podcast and stop acting like their opinion carries more weight than someone else just because they have their own radio show.

Exactly.

I couldn't possibly care less what Barfy and rest of those zeroes write about. Newspaper subscriptions have been going down for many years and the internet is it's final nail in the coffin. I haven't subscribed for many years now and don't miss it at all.

While no doubt there's horrible junk on the internet it's also where the very best insights are to be found imo.

You couldn't have missed the sarcasm in da skers post any worse. Congratulations on the whiff.
