Why the Biblical God is so Human

Recommended Posts

"The idea that good behavior only depends upon your fear of what will happen to you after you die; that you will be punished. Well, that excludes all of philosophy. It excludes Plato, it excludes the mystery cults of Greece, it excludes the Roman idea of what is a good man. There goes Marcus Aurelius, there goes Epictetus, there go the Stoics. These are all better thinkers than anything that the Christian church has come up with in 2,000 years."

People really still watch these terribly put together videos that manipulate and twist Bible verses to prove their "point"?

Faith and Love are with you always, not lust, not fame, not youtube videos, etc. etc. Those things aren't constant; they wear off, but faith and love are with you all day everyday if you let him in.

What on earth are you talking about?

Sorry, some of us prefer to be good people purely because it's the right thing to do. Not because we're told to under threat of eternal punishment.

And some people are bad and do the wrong things with or without the threat of eternal punishment. So what's your point? Seems you're trying to imply that non-Christians are better people even when they may do the same things as a Christian would do. Or that Christians never do the right thing simply because it's the right thing to do.

Spoken like someone that does not understand what following Jesus is about at all. People may, and usually do, enter into salvation and conversion through fear of eternal punishment, but that quickly dissipates and is replaced by a profound love of God and desire to worship and glorify Him, because He is worthy of being worshiped and is glorious. We don't try to be good people, nor if we did would we try to do it because of threat of punishment. We live the way we live not because we have to or are required to, but because we want to, we get the opportunity to and we love spending time and pleasing our Father.

I think most Christians try to do the right thing because of their love for God, not because of the fear of eternal punishment. Do you not break rules and do what your parents tell you at their house because you don't want to get grounded (if you're a dependent), or because you love and respect them.
