Minnesota_husker
How many wins do you think the Gophers have this year? Some Gopher fans predictions: So for the record....I would say some where in the 4-5 win range. Since its the preseason and I am optimistic in some growth from last year I will say 5. 3-1 non-conference, 2 wins in the big ten. Course I could see the first game and if they play a stinker like they did last year's opener I would wish for saying 3...oh well. 5 wins. 3 NC, 2 conference. 7-5 next year 5-7 the next year 10-2 Quote Link to comment
Minnesota_husker
Anywhere from 5 to 7. But I think we can get close to 7 and maybe outside shot at 8 and surprise a few this year if Gray is as good as they are advertising. He makes a ton of difference. Should get to .500 and be undefeated in the non conference. 4-8 but 6-6 and a bowl wouldn't surprise me. Quote Link to comment

I think they have a semi-decent chance of winning the first 5..............after that..........maybe a sneaky shot with Purdue and/or Illinois. They may be able to cobble together 5 or so......... If they could win the first four OOC games. Then they only need to win one conf game--probably against either Northwestern or Purdue. BUt I'm guessing they'll drop one of those first four OOC games. And I doubt they'll beat two B1G teams. But who knows? Maybe Jerry Kill will pull a rabbit out of a hat. Quote Link to comment

They did last year. Do you have some reason to think the Gophers will get worse instead of better? Quote Link to comment

VectorVictor
Too much faith in Kill's talents to think that Minnesota will go down from last year--the man has won wherever he coached, if memory serves. And frankly, I do see a potential for seven wins on that schedule--Iowa, Illinois, and Purdue in the B1G could fall to Minnesota this year, and Syracuse could be in for a fight. I wouldn't say seven wins for Minnesota is a 'lock' or anything close to it, but it is entirely possible and plausible. Iowa will be one-dimensional (at best) this year, Illinois has a new regime (for which I hold out little hope of competence), and Purdue isn't scheduled to flirt with competence for another few years yet. I don't think they'll be any worse. Or much better. Which is to say, I think the Gophers will remain among the bottom couple of B1G teams. Last year they squeaked by Iowa at home by one point, and somehow managed to thrash Illinois to close out the Ron Zook era. This year, the only weak conf games they play at home are Northwestern, a team that seems on the rise. And Purdue. Illinois on the road is probably their other most likely win. I don't see Mighty Gophers winning two of those three. But I guess it *could* happen. That's why they play the games. Quote Link to comment
