Oh, so we shouldn't have opinions - and follow him like sheep - ala Jim Jones style - over the kool aide cliff. There are several roads that can get us to where we need to be. I never called him dumb - he's very smart in fact. I don't think he is all that wise however.

We should have opinions - but they should be grounded in humility and constructive questioning and thinking. Your entire original post is filled with absolute statements, veiled jabs and criticisms from a position of perceived higher standing.

I humbly accept your correction. The tone could have been better - emotions get in the way. I do know, none of us have the corner on the truth and all of the best pathways to success - a bit of humilty is good for me as well. Thank-you. And yes, I have to remember that the only way to grow is to be open to new ideas and opinions. I use to think GWB was a very good president but now with time and perspective - I see so many things I disagree with (I think he was a good guy on a personal level with I think a good heart/intentions). I look back at his term and that of George Sr and I see too many missed opportunities and too much of their globalization policies that have hurt the USA. Maybe I'm reading too many Pat Buchanan articles!!

Jokes aside . . . it's always a little disheartening to see that some people actually do believe and repeat this stuff.

"Obama needs to lead."

". . . teleprompter . . ."

". . . golfing . . ."

Etc.

And more liberal leaning people said similiar things about about Bush, Reagan. Perhaps you were one that never said something negative about one of those guys

I say Obama needs to lead - because that is the job he ran for. Noone else can lead as the president can. I never said anything about a teleprompter or golfing. But I sincerely question his leaderhip style.

I voted for Bush. I attended his Social Security speech in Omaha. It's possible that you're thinking of someone else.

Have I criticized him now that I've matured somewhat? You bet. He has a lot of blood on his hands and his domestic policy decisions vastly increased the deficit. Those aren't vague assertions of "failing to lead," "fundraising," and "own[ing] this mess."

How would you propose that he lead? And in what direction? And why do you think that the GOP house and GOP senate minority would follow?

Leadership first:

2 great examples Reagan and Clinton - not exactly on the same page politically but both were pragmatists. If you remember, after Clinton's 1st 2 years, people voted in the repub house - because Clinton tried to push a very left wing agenda down our throats - back then we were looking at Hillary Care, etc. The repubs grabbed the house. Newt and Clinton soon learned that pragmatic working together could get more done than butting heads (Newt learned it after the 'gov't shutdown' mess and Clinton by looking at the 94 election) After the 96 election they realized they were stuck with each other - if they wanted a legacy - they had to work together. I think they both stepped up to the plate equally. Both of them working together gave us a balanced budget.

Reagan, lead by inspiring leadership. He persuaded the people that they were better than the Carter years. As a result, the people gave him a mandate - when you win 49 states (in 1984) and 44 states in 1980 you have a mandate. Obama didn't win a mandate in either election but acts like he did. However, while Reagan had a mandate, he didn't act like it. He worked wt the democratic congress. He only had a repub senate for part of his term. He passed sweeping tax and economic policies that spurred job growth throughout the 90s. Creating jobs removes people off of govt dependancy. One could easily argue (a different thread) that Reagan inherited a much worse mess than Obama did - double digit inflation, interest rates, a "hot" cold war, and a population just in as much of a malaze. I can't even think that friends of Obama find his speach inspiring. He blames and points fingers and constantly pits one group as vilians and others as victims instead of inspiring the good out of all of us. People knew Reagan was sincere and was a true believer in the higher ideals that made America great - personally i don't see this in Obama.

How shoud Obama lead - 1. Change the talk, stop the divisive talk just for political purposes. There can only be one leader in our system - the president. He sets the example. He should start by changing his partisian tone. 2. Lead in Compromise: Be sincere. If he wants the repubs to accept new revenues (taxes) then he has to lay down some real spending cuts. He has to start doing the right thing for the long term for this country and not just for political or legacy purposes. If you refuse to think about your legacy, your legacy will take care of itself. Do I think the repubs will follow. Yes. if he gets serious about the debt/deficets and faces the unfunded debt load that we have in the face - there is no option but compromise. A tax structure that is too burdensome will destroy the economy as much as too much spending. He tired the stimulus - it hasn't worked - time for both parties to work on compromise and get creative together. But as president, he sets the example. I think you would see a change in attitude by the repub leadership once they saw Obama offerning more than window dressing spending cuts and constant tax hikes. They can start wt the Paul Ryan plan as an honest proposal & starting point (since Obama hasn't presented a balance budget plan) and tweak it togehter.

Regarding Bush: We both may have evolved to the same place. Good guy, but spending combined wt tax cuts and how he conducted the war & nation building - not good. NeoCon stuff that I don't agree with. I've learned the diff between a constitutional conservative vs a NeoCon conservative. Unfortunately, I already see Carl Rowe and others pushing brother Jeb to be the next repub candidate. -

Agreed, one of my favorite aspects of political discussion is when average citizens seem to have a real belief that they could out perform the President at his job. When in reality, if given that amount of responsibility, they would piss themselves then crawl in a deep hole....

And Obama is making job creation his # 1 priority :sarcasm like he promised 4 years ago.

I'm sorry, which party ran on nothing but jobs a few years ago to pick up a bunch of seats in Congress and hasn't done a damn thing about it since? Seems they're more concerned with repealing Obamacare and defunding Planned Parenthood than anything. Obama gave them a jobs bill, and they NEVER EVEN VOTED ON IT. Look at what House Republicans have been doing for the past several years. Boehner doesn't even bother bringing sh#t up for a vote half the time. Look at the amount of filibusters going on in the Senate. I keep hearing these "Obama needs to lead" memes, but it sure looks like a certain party is just being a bunch of obstructionist a$$hole$.

I mean, rhasrhahrah SOCIALISM COMMUMISM MUSLIM ETC ETCTEC BALBLABAL. If you really think that Democrats are radicals right now, then you are officially living in a bubble universe.
