Preseason Power Index Rankings

Who thinks Michigan has more "#relevant" status than us? Other than being just "OK" or worse than they should be? They didn't have nearly the injury problems we had this previous season, yet they had a pretty bad season last year. Finishing off the season with a loss to KSt.

What is more "#relevant" there is just how bad they were last year. That is the story you're saying is more "#relevant" and maybe that is more relevant, just how bad they have gotten despite the consistently good talent they get.

I commend Michigan for having a great game against OSU. That was a great game to watch, but they are in no way, more "#relevant" than Nebraska at this point. They only reason that Michigan gained any relevancy with that game was because OSU was #3 at the time. Sure they played a great game, but in they end they still lost. Then went off and lost to KSt. That's not "#relevant" to me.

Michigan's "relevancy" is tied to one thing: Money.

Prreseason hype makes a difference when the comittee sits down to decide who gets the 4 spots. If you lose early in the year, you better hope that loss was to a highly ranked preseason favorite.

Or be in the SEC, then your SOS, Ranking, and Divisional finish dont matter, youre in the SEC after all.

That was true under the BCS rankings - nobody knows what's going to happen moving forward. In fact, the committee is designed to NOT credit preseason rankings. We'll have to wait and see if that's true.

In week two say #6 beats #9. Then #9 wins a total of 4 games on the year. BUT they were #9 at the time they played #6. Youre right though IT SHOULDNT factor in but Id be surprised if it doesnt with certain teams.

Another thing that sucks is there is no limit on how many teams a league can send to the playoff, the SEC could potentially snd 3 or 4 teams.

Here's the thing: there is no #6 and #9

Exactly, which is why I respectfully disagree with your statement about preseason hype. Why have the hype if that team only wins 4 games? That's junk...

That's why I lend no credence to the preseason rankings. That is also why the BCS didn't come out until week 6.

I say screw off with your preseason ranking and hype! (not "yours" as in you... just the ones who write about this, well, get paid to write about this...) Because honestly, your scenario is exactly what is wrong with preseason rankings and hype.

But by week six, we already know that #9 was no good, which would in turn effect the true outcome of whom will play at the end of the season. That's exactly the outcome of last season. Last season is a perfect example of the needlessness of the preseason rankings and hype.

The two teams playing for National Championships:

One team was unranked.

The other, looking from outside the top 10.

Although I will say, without this preseason stuff, what the hell would we do during the offseason?!?

I don't think this will matter anymore because of the fact that computers won't be involved anymore. If it is, then sadly, we'll never have a perfect system.
