Are Armstrong's completions enough?

I would like to see some higher percentage short to mid range passing especially to Ameer next week. I think next week we will have to pass more to keep them honest against the run.

My concern is what are supposed to be higher percentage passes for most QB's, is the opposite for TA. He seems to struggle with those passes.

This was a problem last year, but he has gotten better. He just needs to perfect the touch pass. As long as he is reviewing film, he will continue to get better. To win next weekend it will take more than just Tommy. Our LBs need to play better and out line needs to reduce penalties.

All of this is nice, but next week, those 7, 8, or 20 yard runs aren't going to be there. WRs aren't going to be wide open 40 yards downfield very often, and picks won't be dropped.

A sub 50% passing performance and splitting defenders' numbers won't cut it when the defense is keying on Ameer and forcing Tommy to beat them.

From subject to subject, you are the most negative poster on this form. Are you trolling?

Never said there were, just that there are more positives in life than negatives.

The thing that scares me is that Armstrong has had several certain picks that were dropped over these first few games. Had one yesterday in fact. The Sparty DBs won't drop balls that get within their grasp. Tommy gonna need to be more careful come Saturday, or it'll be a long day.

Yes, it would be a damn shame for Tommy to throw as many picks against Sparty as TMart did in 2012.

Keep in mind that our offense is scoring more points than we were in 2012 when we played Sparty and we still managed to win the game despite several turnovers. The defense needs to step up for this one. I have plenty of faith in our front-4 getting the job done. Hopefully the LBs step up and we hold them to 21 or less. We're improved overall in special teams and at the very least we can hopefully count on not fumbling a punt return and giving them the ball deep in our own territory. I'd also put our run blocking with this offensive line ahead of our line in 2012.

We've got a great chance of winning this game guys. I'm sure we'll be motivated and hopefully we come out loose and ready to knock heads.

Yeah, remember the 95 yd pick six by Darqueze Dennard? It got called back about 70 yards on some Sparty penalty, or it would've been a 14 point swing. Ouch!

I think these past two weeks are part of Beck's secret genius. Load up on the runs vs. teams we know we can beat up. Give that game tape to MSU so they can scheme on how to stop Ameer and our amazing running game. Then, when the lights go on this Saturday, it's Airshow 2014. Tommy unleashes his secret weapon, the arm of champions and just racks up the yards.

I hope that's what we'll do.

I can see that not happening.

All I know is, if we hadn't shot ourselves in the foot nearly as bad as Iowa State 2009 we would have beat them yet again last year. I don't think we'll have any problem putting up points. But hey I've been wrong before...

I was at the game last night and he had WR's open several times that would have resulted in a TD. When the line gives him time he gets the ball to where it needs to be, but when he is rushed he either fixes in on Westerkamp or Bell and it seems that our opponents have noticed this as well. We need to get Ameer involved in the passing game next Saturday to give Tommy a safety valve.
