Osborne's judgment

Recommended Posts

Bo Pelini wasn't a bad hire. He needed to grow into the job some and, to a certain extent, he did. But in the end, he did not grow enough in some areas that mattered. I think it prevented him from seeing that some of the lack of success was probably related to the lack of development along the offensive line, linebacker, and QB. problems that come right back to his staff. In the end, he created a culture that was so in to defending itself from the world, that it was not able to self critique.

Should we be questioning our own judgment for questioning the judgment of someone who isn't really officially associated with University?

Maybe you should be questioning your own judgment after that statement.

Just saying. Everyone needs to get over it. Bo's no longer here. Tom is no longer here. Why question the decision now? Why didn't we ask ourselves this when the firing actually occurred? And honestly, are we really, truly, positively surprised and shocked by what Bo said?

If you really, and truly want to question Tom's judgment. Let's start with how he started LP. You could argue that doing that is far worse than Bo calling his boss names...

It's ok to do a post-mortem and discuss these things. It's timely...this latest audio just came out, and Bo has talked about his old AD (TO) and the new AD (SE). Should we not have talked of Bo's firing the days after it happened either?

As for TO, I still think highly of him as a coach, but I am very disappointed if he allowed Bo to instill such negativity in this program for so many years. If you don't care to discuss that, feel free to post in other threads.

Big Willie,

Could you explain why coach Grobe just made the comments in the last month or so, that he should have taken the job at Nebraska.

Step over to RSS, ask SarasotaHusker, the guy who started the rumor, if it was legitimate.

Heck, send McKeown an email and ask him who his original source was on the rumor. That would be good for some laughs.

You have no clue.

You never answered my question.

Why did Coach Grobe make the comment less than a month ago. That he should have taken the Nebraska job when offered?

Did he make that up?

I could care less what is on a message board.

Tom Osborne offered Jim Grobe the job, Tom wanted him here. He said no.

Yes, absolutely Grobe made it up if he ever said he was offered the job. I don't know the article you are referencing, or where he even said it - but if Grobe said he was offered the job of HC at Nebraska, he 100% made it up.

I'm not even sure why this is a debate when the whole Grobe saga has been a well known running joke since the whole thing happened way back then.

I will try and find the recent article, it was on this site less than a month ago Willie, and I personally know it was not a joke. It all revolved around Shawn Watson, Tom wanting to keep him and Grobe wanting to bring his entire staff.

I am headed out now, but will try to find the latest about it. Grobe at the time was considered one of the best coaches in the country, doing far more with less than anyone else. Tom personally liked him and wanted him here.

But out of the blue a month ago a guy that was not offered the job, made the statement he should have taken the Nebraska job when it was offered.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one, but I will find the recent posts regarding it on this site.

This really doesn't offer up much with regards to defending TO considering Wake eventually fired Grobe. The real disappointing part of TO's AD tenure was the short list of Gill, Grobe, and Pelini. There wasn't a single one on the list worth a $hit!

"I honestly took great pride in Wake Forest. I had some really good friends there. I trusted some people there. I thought Wake was a little different than other schools. I really, at the time, felt we were going to get a bigger commitment in terms of facilities and support for the program that never really materialized. We loved all 13 years we were in Winston-Salem, but I'm not real happy with the way things ended."

Hindsight is 20/20, real easy to call TO out on this now but let's not forget the sh!t storm that led to Bo in the first place.... Defense was a disaster, HC with no Nebraska ties who flat out rejected tradition and didn't produce on the field to ease the frustrations of the fan base... Bo at the time represented one of the great up and coming minds in college football, was considered a "top" defensive mind, who had past ties with the University, connections all over the football world, and was the DC on a dominating defense that just won the national title.

Obviously things did not work out but TO is not a fortune teller. While Bo always had a temper and short fuse, no one would have predicted the amount of boneheaded actions and borderline insane comments that came directly from him. He's a grown man who acts like a child and to put any of this on Osborne is misdirected.

You don't have to look the article up, as I have no reason to believe you'd lie about something like that. Plus, it looks like others have referenced it.

But in all honesty, Grobe was never even contacted about the job. Why Grobe acted like he was, I don't know? Only he can answer that. Maybe it was just for giggles that he got such a huge pay raise? Again, I don't know.

I can still vividly remember how great of a troll that was by SarasotaHusker. He picked a random private flight that was coming out of NC and into Lincoln, saying Grobe was on the flight. He was laughing about doing this on another message board at the same time he was posting it on RSS. When McKewon picked it up, then ESPN, USA Today, and others picked it up, it legitimately became one of the best trolls I have ever witnessed.

Not a slam on Tom in any way by me. I would have loved to have had Grobe here. There are things that have still not surfaced on all of this, and my guess is that they will before too long.

Thanks guys for posting, I had an emergency tower outage that I had to go check out, just walked back in the door.

The way it was relayed to me from on older senior coach that knows Nebraska pretty well, is that certain coach flew to Winston Salem and asked said coach personally, waited on his reply, because it was that important to the University and him.
