zoogs
Riley employs a full time special teams coach because he puts a high value on that part of the game.Oregon St was ranked #55 in Special Teams Efficiencies this year, link. Hopefully, that value he puts on ST becomes tangible at Nebraska, which was ranked #2 in the same index this year. #2 thanks to DPE. Nature vs nurture. More his ability than coaching. So, if we already got the weapons, why do we need Gluhaich? Long snapping isn't punt returning. If he redshirts and sits behind Faulkenberry for 2 years after that, he'd still get 2 years of starting. And in the meantime, provide depth so that we aren't an injury away from scrambling again. I'm all for ignoring specialists so the rest of the team can get even more scholarships, but that doesn't seem like the mindset. And I can get on board with it. If they are good players, they will help the team, and we could do far worse with the scholarship spot. If what we're down to is a longshot developmental guy vs one of the best long snappers in the country, then get that LS. Competition at every position. Having that on top of 2 scholarship kickers is what's making this feel like a numbers drag. I do wonder if we will really enter the season with 4 scholarship spots devoted to K/P/LS. He has technique you can not teach. He is quick, hard & accurate. Quote Link to comment
