What is the most epic thing you have seen at work?

Recommended Posts

Curious on some stories people have from their work life... where something happened that was so funny/unbelievable, that the story is still a legendary tale at your place of work?

I thought about this today because someone in one of our Texas offices got a promotion and it was sent to the whole company(500-600+ people) and people keep replying all to congratulate this guy... I was joking around that i wanted to reply back with this: "The next person to reply all is getting pistol-whipped" and include a picture of Favra(Super Troopers(movie) joke).

Got me to thinking... has anyone ever actually had the balls to do something like that or something so epic?

LET THE STORIES, BEGIN!

I actually just had one of the most epic moments of my professional life happen yesterday when Darren Rovel tweeted about an app I sold and my company built for adidas. It was immediately picked up by Forbes, Sports Illustrated, Mashable, Droid Life, Uncrate, Quartz and many other media outlets all within a few hours.

The app is the first of it's kind for built for exclusive shoe launches. It currently is for the new Kanye West shoe that launches next week in NYC. In the future, the app will be used across the country.

Edit: I realize you were probably hoping for something funny but this was crazy enough to me.

A buddy of mine started work at a Washington D.C. law firm of about 100 attorneys. On his second day he sent an email back to a co-worker at his former job saying: "Hey Joel, Yeah, things are going fine so far. blah, blah, blah. By the way would you forward that donkey/woman video to my home email address? Thanks!" (paraphrasing). My buddy mistakenly hit the "Forward to All" button on his email application and the email went out to all 100 attorneys in his new law firm. He got back about 40 responses saying things like, "Who the hell are you, and what's this about a donkey/woman video?"

Craziest in my short professional career: watching...well, i guess more like hearing...one of my co-workers storm into our bosses office and trying to chew some ass because she wasn't getting her way. She surprisingly made it out of there with her job but she didn't last much longer before she was let go.

Unfortunately that is all i can remember. It was a very interesting day though, i remember that.

About the most "epic" office-environment thing I've seen was when I printed off internet meme valentine's day cards and put them on all my realtor's doors. They're all older and not as in touch with online culture so they were a pretty big hit. Crazy, I know. Like these:

One time at Jimmy John's I was working the closing delivery shift in a blizzard and I delivered four orders to four different places in town, while also helping four different cars get unstuck, all in under a half hour. Epic delivery performance, that was.

I worked at a company that captured everything that went across the network. An employee was connected remotely and forgot to disconnect his VPN session before doing some "personal" web surfing. The security software captured him booking & paying for a prostitute for an upcoming business trip. After he returned, he included the transaction on his expense report. Few days later, the info popped up as part of an unrelated audit. Wasn't pretty but from the outisde looking in, was definitely epic... His employment ended with security escorting him gunnysack over-the-shoulder style to the main entrance where an FBI Agent & County Sherriff were waiting to give him a ride "home".

One of my first jobs out of college was as an assistant manager at a Radio Shack. My wife and I lived in Maine at the time.

It was a quiet evening in the store. I was standing at the counter visiting with the manager of the store. No customers were present. A woman enters the store and walks down one of the aisles (it was a very small store). I get a wiff of something and blurt out "jeez, Chuck!. What did you do? Sh*t yourself?". He gets a smirk on his face and slowly shakes his head "noooooooo". The woman blushed and quickly left the store. :)
