Longer things go more I feel we will get to at least 9 wins. Quote Link to comment

ScottyIce
So, if everything goes right, we have a chance to win 9 games? Lmao. Quote Link to comment
zoogs
I really don't think it's that unfair of an article. * Yes, they're good coaches (we hope), but it's also year 1. It takes time for coaches to put their stamp on a program. * They're installing new schemes on offense and defense. * DT may be a strength, but LB and DE are extremely shaky positions. * The OL has not been exceptionally strong or well coached in recent years. Three starters graduated. * By most accounts, Ameer saved our butts last year and was the entire offense. He's gone. We have guys, but will they be of Ameer's caliber? * With all due respect to the rest of our receivers, I'll believe we can replace Kenny Bell's productivity and deep threat in this offense when I see it. * Our QB is a tough dude, but he was pretty shaky last year. The article is right, his development is key. * There's some talent in the secondary, but stopping pass offenses was Bo's forte. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume they will take a step back in this area, although of course I'd trade that for not getting gashed on the jet sweep. The main thing in Nebraska's advantage is the schedule. But as we've learned recently, you don't show up and win games just because you're Nebraska. Those teams coached by Jerry Kill and Pat Fitzgerald and even Kirk Ferentz aren't exactly pushovers. So if all things go smoothly, then I'm sure 9 games will be no trouble and they could even do better. "All things going smoothly" however, is never a guarantee, especially in year 1. ScottyIce
My only argument is that they state that IF everything goes right, we MIGHT win 9 games lol. That's asinine. In my mind, if everything goes right we win all our games and are playing in final 4.... Did everything go right last year to lead to our 9 wins? 1 Quote Link to comment
ScottyIce
Id say if things don't go very well, you're looking at pushing for 9 wins... Quote Link to comment

I'm a koolaid drinker and you are a Debbie downer but I don't see How 11-3 isn't possible Quote Link to comment

Considering we have been running a lot more shotgun and kept some zone read as well as added more boots and PA I wouldn't say we are going to try to make TA Payton Manning overnight. We are meshing and blending what our players are good at and comfortable with with what our staff knows. We have a staff of professionals that have been in the business a helluva lot longer than anything we had before and They got 9 wins. I'm still thinking we can get to 11 Quote Link to comment
Savage Husker
If this team doesn't win 10 games, It'll be below my expectations. SE fired a 9 win coach to get us over the hump, not to rebuild. Our OL hasn't been anything to write home about, whatever we have in the works now and upgrade in coaching shouldnt be a drop off. Tommy and QBs have a real coach now, should be improvement. Ameer saved our bacon, but running backs ARE a dime a dozen, who's gonna step up? Our defense survived without Gregory last year in multiple games, having the right system and coaching to the players' strengths is more important than one player. Our schedule is still weak enough to get 9 wins. No reason our expectations should be lowered just because it's a new staff, new system. They came here to win and win now. Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
First of all, scrape Media Bias off the thread head. The article itself puts the writer smack in the middle of the insights and opinions I've heard from Husker faithful. It's the same optimism + question mark reporting you'll find on pretty much every team worth speculating about. My only issue is with the headline writer, because nothing in the article supports it. admo
Article wasn't brutal or anything. There is a legit chance that this could be a bumpy first year. I think on defense, it comes down to how well the linebackers and lineman play together to stop the run. That needs to be fixed. And on offense, it will depend on the QB. If it's Armstrong, he will need to improve. I feel good enough about the secondary, receivers, TEs, special teams & coaching staff. The running backs and lineman will have to work together to get the ground game going. That's just experience and trust. If TA doesn't improve, it will be a long, long, long season. And I don't know if any of the QB backups have the confidence to match their ability. And even Bo had a few borderline 8 win seasons needing some luck to get them 9. Quote Link to comment
