Huskerzoo
The idea of putting Westy out on PR makes me nervous. I feel like we need to put a CB (Cjax?) out there given our depth at WR. Quote Link to comment

Mavric
Newby, Turner and Wilbon working as kick returners today. Haven't seen anything about punt returners other than Westy. Quote Link to comment

Just a guess, but I think they will start with Westy against BYU, because he's the best at "catching the punt". Then they may try to work in other, more dynamic returners against South Alabama as practice before the Miami game. Quote Link to comment
Savage Husker
I hope Westy has improved tremendously as a return man, he looked unsure out there as a freshman and underperformed. I'll give him a pass as that 2013 punt return team was overall atrocious, but I hope there is someone who has a better feel for it and is a natural back there. Quote Link to comment
alwayshusking
Westy and Turner have underwhelmed at the PR spot when they've had the chance. I would like to see some other players groomed. Quote Link to comment

I see Westerkamp as the same role as Rex Burkhead a few years ago. Burkhead probably could have been an OK returner but he was basically back there because he had great hands and you could trust him to make the catch. Westy might do a little more than that but he's not particularly fast or shifty so his job will likely be make the catch and if you can get a few yards that's a bonus. Turner has had trouble catching passes but I don't remember him getting many shots returning. I think he could be more dangerous but he might be dangerous in more than one way. 1 Quote Link to comment

I could see other players groomed after the BYU game. I would say let the young guys get their feet wet in game experience, and give them a shot in the South Alabama game/practice. If there is a standout other than Westy, he may be needed against Miami. Quote Link to comment

He's probly the best return got we got, aside from DPE. Quote Link to comment

The punt team beat the ball to Westy more times than not iirc. Quote Link to comment

However, he was unsure whether to catch a ball or let it go, and a couple of times he caught a ball inside the 10 - he fumbled one of them - and times he let a ball go and roll 10-15 more yards. Those aren't just bad schemes, but bad decisions. Hopefully he is more confident back there now that he's older and also a better coached PR unit. 1 Quote Link to comment
