So Shawn fires a 9 win coach and complete staff hires a 50/50 coach and staff brings them into a well know University lots of money gives them everything they can dream of gives them the keys to the sports car spend eight months talking them up how great they are, can he make them winners? I know longer think so and how can they teach our players to be winners when they don't know how to win.

Could it be that even if Pelini needed to be booted out the door, he did indeed know what he was talking about when it came to Eichorst?...apparently.

Does anyone anticipate Eichorst crawling out from under his rock any time soon to address the current state of affairs?...

...me neither.

Of course not, but it's not because of embarrassment or f'ing up. He has been on record TONS of times about being hands off, in the background, and not commenting on stuff like this in season because it's not his style, and it doesn't do any good for anybody. That's a good management approach, regardless of who he has or hasn't hired as a coach.

A few years from now we might have a new coach. Or we might not. The most ridiculous thing is that somehow people seem to think athletics jobs are very much like other jobs in the real world - they aren't. Maybe Eichorst isn't a good AD, but his coaching hire not bringing us to the promised land six weeks in isn't evidence of it. There are always risks involved in sports. That's what makes them sports. Bob Devaney made goofs and mistakes as an AD. Tom Osborne made them too. Every athletic director does, has, and will continue to do so, because there's no guarantees in this line of work.

Being an armchair AD is way more hilariously ignorant than being an armchair quarterback, which is, in itself, hilariously ignorant to begin with.

The Bo tenure needed to end in the worst way.

It's not simply an issue of wins, though the standard at Nebraska is high there.

It's character. The image Nebraska football had assumed under Bo was a hard, fierce tumble from the standards of class on which Husker fans like to pride ourselves.

There were two things to rebuild: a program with integrity, and an on-field team that doesn't get regularly taken to the cleaners.

The latter is clearly not going to be a cakewalk, given where we were, but we expect progress. The former is the more important thing, and it's amazing how easily we lose sight of it. It's hard to imagine a coach better suited than Mike Riley to undertake the responsibility of restoring class to Husker football.

If Riley doesn't win soon.....and a lot, we'll be looking for a different character. This can't, and won't, continue.

I completely agree with that. If things go like they did in Muschamp's tenure or like Strong's is right now, he'll be feeling legitimate hotseat heat even as early as year 2 or 3.

As much as I appreciate his character and think he was an important hire, it doesn't take years to re-establish class and he isn't the only guy who can continue it. So, yes. Nebraska will find a different "nice guy" to carry the mantle forward if Riley can't get it done.

Riley is feeling heat now.......his sideline demeanor was different yesterday. From his unsportsmanlike conduct to raising his voice past a "dad gum" to an assistant coach......it looked like Coach Read, but couldn't quite tell.

you got what you wanted buddy. Enjoy watching the losses pile up until the university pulls the trigger and removes Riley. Bo needed to remove papuchis. A lot of the demeanor you saw in Bo's last season was a result of his relationship with his boss and the frustration coming out on Saturdays. What is that makes you think Riley is going to magically produce a winning product in his last few years as a head coach? Answer this please.
