Jeremy
I'll never understand the veiled dislike for Osborne from some folks. The man WAS Nebraska for pert near 40 years, like it or not. Quote Link to comment
C N Red
The shadow of Ozzy makes those of importance or relevance shake in their boots. This is classical. No matter in what manner we seem to look and judge the happenings since Ozzy retired, we all know that the legacy left can't be matched, and it make those in this position jealous. Until the University accepts that Tom was the football program and is the living icon that still represents the program, your going to have lines in the sand drawn amongst fans and school officials. In order to embrace the future, we must accept our past. Until we hire an administration the can accept the past, without being jealous, without being nonchalant, and have pride in what made up the program, folks its never going to resolve itself. I agree, this shouldn't come out of the woodwork now, but its an issue thats in need of resolve, and in need of some deep soul searching amongst the powers to be at Nebraska. I say no matter how Coach Riley does this year, the University needs to go and hire Trev Alberts as the next AD. Let Trev have a year or so and get the money boosters really back on board, bring TO back into the picture, and get those teams and players from the dynasty years back to some level of involvement in the program. That is what made Nebraska great. That will be what makes them once again a force to be reckoned with. Why not? I'm sure there are plenty of successful athletic programs he can shut down in Lincoln like he did in Omaha. Once AGAIN!! Do your research. It was shut down programs that were losing money or get rid of all major sports programs. Like an AD ever wants to drop programs??!! So sick of hearing how bad Alberts is. He was handcuffed. Mike Harvat
Twitter is a blessing and a curse. 10 years ago I'm not sure any of us would be talking about this... Quote Link to comment
Dansker
Well, let's see... Osborne won 3 NC's, won the most games in 25 years as a HC and coached arguably the greatest CFB team of all-time. I'm pretty sure his accomplishments far outweigh his mistakes. Unless said mistakes are morally wrong. Everybody makes mistakes but we're not talking about Jim Tressel or Joe Paterno are we? Not that level of mistake, right? Because I can remember Tom made some controversial choices during his time but nothing that completely tarnished his career just decisions that were put under a microscope. Of course there is always the argument/allegation that his 90's teams juiced but as far as I know, nobody has been able to actually prove it. So, really, there's nothing else left that classifies as being "morally wrong" for Coach Osborne at this point. The REAL problem lies within the administration. Quote Link to comment

I keep seeing people blaming the administration for things but no one is saying why. Sure, I have seen them get blamed for hiring Riley and crew but what else have they done to deserve the ridicule? Is it because they fired Bo? Is it because they don't bow down to Osborne? What is it? The administration is doing their jobs. They have been improving our athletic facilities like no other, they are pushing to move ahead again in athletic training and science, hence the whole East side expansion. I am just wanting to know why people have an issue with the administration. Quote Link to comment

Kiyoat Husker
Good thing MS'V has us all in a tizzy from his tweets. Good thing we still have NO idea what this is about, and yet we are going off. I'd say this is rumorville material until we actually know more. Quote Link to comment
Bowfin
Once AGAIN!! Do your research. It was shut down programs that were losing money or get rid of all major sports programs. Like an AD ever wants to drop programs??!! Wrestling is one of the least expensive programs to run. It was also one of the most successful ones for UNO. I guess research trumped common sense, in this case. Quote Link to comment

I thought the problem was fitting the sports with the new conference and keeping Title IX in mind. If some women's sports went, so did men's. UNO wasn't cutting the hockey team nor the BB team with a move to Div I. The whole situation sucked, but like others have mentioned it had to be done. edit: Were any women sport's cut?
