Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers 2015: Statistically Speaking

One of the biggest impacts on a game is turnovers and Iowa’s done very well with a plus-11 (+11) margin. Nebraska, on the other hand, currently sits at minus-10 (-10). The Hawkeyes ended ahead by one against both the Hoosiers and Gophers while the Huskers trailed by one against the Spartans and Scarlet Knights.

This pretty much says it all.

We've been pretty good at not fumbling this year. But the interceptions. Oy!

Z-Score Method Comparisons (average of z-score for all individual stats within each category given)

Pass "O" Iowa 0.09 to Nebraska's 0.15

Pass "D" Iowa 0.94 to Nebraska's -0.85

Rush "O" Iowa 1.2 to Nebraska's 0.47

Rush "D" Iowa 1.19 to Nebraska's 0.49

Total "O" Iowa 0.15 to Nebraska's 0.36

Total "D" Iowa 0.97 to Nebraska's -0.11

Scoring "O" Iowa 0.45 to Nebraska's 1.51

Scoring "D" Iowa 0.48 to Nebraska's -1.04

Turnover Margin Iowa 1.02 to Nebraska's -0.82

p.s. - The z-score is the difference from the national mean, in terms of the number of standard of deviations. E.g., Iowa's turnover margin stats (which include fumbles gained and lost, interceptions gained and lost, total turnovers gained and lost, and turnover margin per game) rating of 1.02 means their average posted statistic from this season within those categories is practically one standard deviation different from the mean in a positive (good) sense. Nebraska's -1.04 for Scoring "D" means their average posted stat in that category is higher than the national average, calculated for all 128 FBS teams in games played only against other FBS teams, by a whole standard deviation...this time in a negative (bad) sense. What gives me (and all of us Husker fans?) hope is these stats hopefully don't reflect who the Huskers are given the performance against a good MSU team.

They just need to cut down on the why-would-you-throw-that-up-in-the-air-like-a-paper-airplane... throws... and they should be OK. :thumbs
