Power rack suggestions

Recommended Posts

I'm moving in July/August and want to have a power rack. I've done a lot of research but I'm wanting to get other opinions. I found one that comes with a lat pulldown, which is something I want, but the pulley system has gotten a lot of bad reviews.

This is the one I'm currently looking into getting, and adding the dip attachments:

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Power-Squat-Cage-NYB/dp/B00QZ2G7FY

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FMSAOQ

There is a lat attachment I could buy for the above rack. It's $300 though.

The one that had bad pulley reviews:

http://www.amazon.com/Power-Rack-Lat-Pull-Attachment/dp/B002EJC990

Overall the reviews are good for this one but if I'm going to pay $450 I want the lat pulldown to be good.

Where do you plan on having the power rack? Is it going to be in a garage or basement?

If you want a very well built power rack, go to elitefts.com or roguefitness.com. Roguefitness sells one that mounts to your wall and then folds flat against the wall when not in use. http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-rml-3w-fold-back-wall-mount-rack

It's actually going in a large living room in a 1st floor apartment. I have some of those foam puzzle mats to put over the carpet to put the rack on. If you think this is a bad idea let me know. (As far as the surface, not the aesthetics of putting a gym in our living room :P). I've read lots of comments saying as long as you have a plate on each of the plate storage pegs to weight them down, neither of these racks wobble.

I will check out the sites. The wall mount one sounds great but probably can't do it in an apt.

I am sure you will need to purchase a bar and plates also and that should be enough weight to keep the rack steady, especially if you get a dip attachment or pull-up bar. You can buy Olympic weight sets (300 lbs, 400 lbs or 500 lbs) whick is the bar (7ft.) and plates. I would recommend going with rubber coated plates. They are a little more expensive but it will save on noise and wear and tear on the mats and floor.

Throwing in my 2¢, but it's always a good idea to have safety pins in a power rack. These are the long bars that catch the weight from dropping from your back during a squat, or from crushing your chest during a bench press.

Here's one on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00P9WLFMG/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1461714409&sr=1-4&keywords=power+rack

Regarding lats, if you think you can push through it, don't get a pulldown apparatus, get a power rack with a pull up bar.

I couldn't do a single pull-up. Now I can do 11 because of this video. The guy is a little different, but his method worked very well for me.

Good luck!!!

Delayed reply... I've actually been watching scooby for quite awhile. Never ended up getting the rack. Going to wait 'til I have a house to put it in. The new apt has a good gym though.

A little late to the party here but I got like less than a minute into that pullup video and for some reason my mind sees that guy as weird jacked Bill Nye and now I don't know what to do.

Please advise.

Common misconception. This is Bill's brother, Will. Will Nye the pull up guy.

My advice is don’t watch him.
