Early 2017 Top 25

@ Mr. "Chimichanga",

Do you really think we're going to beat WI, PSU, with a rookie QB, meh running attack, and new DC with no 'scarey' players on the D? I guarantee nxt we will not be 50/50 going into those games but will be a significant dawg in those games--in addition to the OSU game.

In case your memory fails you, we STRUGGLED against mediocre competition in '17 to amass the 7-0 and #7 vast overranking. Knowledgeable fans of the game knew at the time it was more or less smoke and mirrors and, not unsurprisingly, Big Red folded like a cheap suit against the good teams on the schedule.

NW, IA, and OR will also most likely be favored over us. Minny will also have an excellent shot at beating us.

If I had to lay $ on the table right now, I'd say we looking at 7 wins tops nxt year. Unless Gebbia is some ridiculous frosh phenom, we will have REAL issues @ QB--can you say ROOKIE?

Lamar Jackson, remember that guy, Heisman or something, "phenom", OBTW, finished with 4 or 5 losses, if I recall, and embarrassed in the bowl game.

Fact is, DONU is just another team, also ran, in a parity world, no more, no less. We are not a scary team. Maybe in '18/'19, IF one of the QBs pans out as hoped, we can resume a discussion of division or conference contention.

Next year's QB won't be a rookie. You can tell just by the way eveyone talks about him Lee will be the starter (barring injury). He had two years at Tulane and now one year here on the practice squad. That counts for something. Plus if you Watch the little film he has you can tell he's a better QB than TA. The run game will benefit from a better passing game that will no doubt be better. We didn't play well against OSU and it got worse after TA got hurt. We'll have more potential game changers on offense this year so I'm not even ready to chalk that game up as a loss just yet

1. We took Wisconsin to overtime, in Madison so yeah, Nebraska can win in Lincoln. Not saying they will, but we've got a 50/50 shot.

2. Penn State was the surprise team of 2017 and they won't "sneak up" on anyone this year.

3. Northwestern and Iowa will be favored over Nebraska? You sure about that, Clark?

4. Oregon will have their own struggles with a new coaching staff. And let's be clear, this is not the Oregon of Jay Mariotta. These guys are beatable cause we did it last year.

5. How some other team finished their 2016 season is completely irrelevant.

6. Fact: Your glass isn't just half empty, it has holes in the bottom and is leaking.

@ Mr. "BloodisRed",

Welp, his 2nd year @ Tulane, Lee completed a mere 52% of his passes. In his 2 yrs there, he passed for over 300 yds just once(301). And this was in Conf. USA or wtever, i.e., lesser competition. He was the MVP of our scout team last year, so I guess that counts for something, but for all practical purposes, nxt year, if he starts, he will be a rookie, in real time B1G competition.

Whoever starts, if he gets us 8 wins I will consider it a successful season.

1. Tanner Lee is not a rookie

2. We do have a game changer: De'Mornay Pierson-El. If he's able to field any punts next year, that's a huge plus. Remember, one of the few punts he actually returned, he broke off a long one and set us up in good field position.

3. We damn near beat Wisconsin in Madison. We get them in Lincoln this year. With a QB that can throw.

4. Having an actual threat through the air helps ease the pressure on the run game, ergo, a more effective rushing attack.

5. If you're putting the over/under at seven games, I'll take the over every day of the week and twice on Tuesday.

I'll call my shot:

First team all-conference:

Tanner Lee (split coaches/media with Barrett)

Stanley Morgan

De'Mornay Pierson-El

Carlos Davis

Chris Jones

Drew Brown

Freshman all-conference:

Jaevon McQuitty

Jack Stoll

Boe Wilson

Matt Farniok

Marquel Dismuke

Tanner Lee tops 3,000 yards and DPE houses three punt returns.

@ Mr. Chimichanga,

I stand by my prediction for '17, y'all can pray, and hope, and drink all the koolaid you want.

Ok, maybe OR will be 50/50ish, but I still pick them on their turf.

Ark St. is no slouch, they won their conf. And bowl, if I recall, and have that southen speed.

@ ILL could be a struggle as it was last year at home.

WI, OSU, PSU all Ls, NW good chance of L as they have a legit, vet QB, damn good D, and were trending up the latter part of the season. IA, well, depends I guess, they seem to have our #.

I think we're looking at 7 wins, tops.

DPL "gamechanger"? Really? That's rich. 1st of all, he's just an average WR who rarely gets much separation(gets open), doesn't really stretch the field, and has average ball skills. He may not even be starting @ WR nxt if any of the stellar newbies pan out.

2nd, a couple of decent punt returns a season does not a difference maker, er, make and last year he didn't even take one to the house, if I recall.

No, sorry, DPL is not a differnce maker, especially when it comes to stellar competition--i.e. OSU, etc.

He's a decent player, that's it.

Adoree Jackson, now there's a differnce maker as a return specialist.

Are you drunk or are you posting from the future? We haven't played '17 and next season is not '18.

Did you even watch Nebraska football in 2014? DPE in fact changed TWO games with punt returns; Iowa and Michigan State.

I was strictly speaking of him as a PR.

Because Lee is good doesn't mean POB isn't. Not being able to start as a freshman doesn't mean you're a bust.

I've seen Lee working with the team and he's much better than you seem to think.

DPL, 2014, that was 2 seasons ago. What happened, oh yeah, he blew out his knee, that affected him.

Was the CFB world raving about DPE as a differnce making threat last year? No. In fact he received virtually no national press at all.

As to TL, basically you're saying what you hope will happne based on next to no evidence on what he might do on NE in the B1G.

What I'm saying, is over my decades of CFB watching, a rookie or 1st year starter on a team, in most cases, struggles and loses games. Just ask OR and Sparty last year...

It would certainly appear that we are looking at some more years of limited success in Football. WI will continue to dominate the Big Ten West and NE will be outside looking in and wondering what the hell happened. Thanks you Steve Pederson.

I wish I could say Riley had a plan but it looks to me like he is grasping at straws and hoping he can find an answer.

I hope I am wrong but I don't believe so.

:ohnoes

:ahhhhhhhh:ahhhhhhhh:ahhhhhhhh:ahhhhhhhh

Nebraska might play their way into a terrific season. Look at last year, my goodness Nebraska reached 8th nationally in the polls and got to 7-0. Now granted after that the team tanked, and that was with 3-4 walk-ons starting along the OL, no viable #2 QB, our TE and top 2-3 WRs hurt and unable to play and then Tommy being injured. Not to mention a defense that clearly gave up after the loss to Wisconsin.

Point is, with all that, Nebraska somehow found a way to win 9.

In 2017 we have Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa, and Northwestern, all at home. The way I see it, the three biggest games, read potential for a loss, are at Oregon, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. We should literally be favored in every other game.

comeon that was after playing a very weak schedule .

Let's ask USC about Darnold, or Washington about Browning. Each situation is different.

I'm not basing my optimism on "no evidence". I've seen him in practice, in person, several times.

As far as DPE goes, I'm guessing you didn't watch the Oregon game this year.

So, which fan cave are you crawling out (Kansas State?) of to come over and just dispute what other people say rather than actually show you have knowledge about Nebraska football?

I don't hope you enjoy your brief venture into the Red Sea.

Look, I'll say it again: Lamar Jackson, frosh, won HEISMAN, LOST 4 GAMES. LSU trounced him.

If you all want to hang your hat on Tanner Lee, go right ahead, but he will not deliver us more than 8 wins, if that.

psst.....what are this weeks lotto numbers? shh...not so loud, i don't want to have to share it with all the degenerates around here.
