  5. Yeah, maybe it's slowed down slightly and that's what makes it look off to me. The blinking red lights on the towers don't match the pace that I've often seen on towers, but slowing the frame rate down would do that. Also the way the towers fall doesn't seem right, but again, slowing the footage down would do that as well. I didn't see until know that it's from Reed Timmer. I think he's pretty legit. So it's probably a combination of the frame rate and all the debris in the air that makes it look odd to me.
  6. Unrelated to weather, but while we're on this topic, this is a really fantastic four part video series on CGI in movies (as well as the plague of production companies lying through their teeth about their use of it) for those that find this stuff interesting.
  7. I'm hoping we're getting to the point where we have enough depth that it's injuries that start to determine if you have to burn that redshirt. It's hard to make it worth burning a redshirt as a true frosh if you didn't come in the spring. But I'm really looking forward to Nelson in this offense.
  8. This is easily the most moronic take that circulates on the Right. Like, do you think climate change is a sudden event that jumps out from behind a tree and grabs ya? Like, bro, the planet is setting heat records nearly every year. Oceanic heat temperatures are blowing past expectations and heat records are being set every day this year. Like, I realize I'm not talking to somebody who operates in reality because their conservative identity has over taken any rational thought, but my god. The cognitive dissonance of modern Conservatism has rotted away the brains of people.
  9. Don't forget the car is a Ford-F950 MAXXX Super Crew Cab "Tank" edition that gets 8mpg they use to drive to the mall. This voter is pissed at the gas prices and it's Bidens fault (but not when gas prices are lower). They are also against woke electric cars that lower demand for gas.

  11. I'm not truly a vfx guy I just dabble and occasionally work adjacent but to my eye there's nothing that tips me off or actively leads me to believe it's not real footage.

  13. i like that sputnik is the source of his story
  14. I'd be surprised if Nelson doesn't redshirt this year and only play the four games. Will likely be quite an adjustment for him like most freshmen.
  15. Obviously there was a real tornado doing real tornado things. I don't think Reed fudged the multiple vortices or the basic footage. As a casual observer, I don't know what you mean by expecting 24 but getting 30 or 48. My initial thought was that it seemed surreal, and @Mavric apparently also thought so, which is why I tagged you. Is there any reason to believe this isn't real? Just manipulated a bit in post?
  16. Be interesting to see if Rhule puts Nelson in as a H back/fullback in a fourth and 1or on the 1 yard line, I can see him leaping over the top.

  18. TWolves are a particular bad matchup for Gordon. Minny possesses 2 7 footers in their starting lineup, and Naz Reid is a bulky 6’10. Gordon makes his impact offensively by punishing smaller players on cross matches or lurking in the dunker spot and getting Jokic lobs that originate off of the Murray/jokic pnr, or when his defender gets caught helping on Jokic. Minny is so big at all positions…they have length to recover both at the rim and chasing around high pick and rolls. Just very little opportunity for Gordon to exploit. One game he did go off in he was just hitting jump shots…which normally a defense would be ok allowing him to take. Just a tough matchup with a team that was built to beat the Nuggets. Throw in the fact that Denver basically had no bench and literally no back up 4 or 5 to spell either Jokic or Gordon. Got a worn out team by the end. MPJ shrank as per usual against a physical team. All that said, if KAT would have gone his usual route and been a mental midget in a big game, Nugs probably win. But he played a hell of a game. And predictably he turned back into a pumpkin for last nights game against Dallas. Oh well. Was a fun 14 months being a Nugs fan. Hoping for a big move where they trade MPJ for some depth. But looks like they’re going to just run it back and hope their young guys make a leap. Which is disappointing.
  19. I think one of the biggest semiconductor manufactories is there...will be interesting to see what happens with that.
  20. I'm armchairing this a little bit, but I think it's a combo of some factors: #1 I think it's just such a surreal display and vantage point we aren't used to, and is lacking any kind of foreground element to orient us to scale or to a normal vantage point we would usually expect to see a tornado from (nearby houses, inside a car interior, etc.) #2 I think there's some very subtle framerate 'trickery' going on. Hard to know without having the original file but if I had to guess it looks like the footage has been undercranked very slightly (playing back slower than 'real time'), and it also looks like the final video is at 30 or 48fps which feels uncanny when you're expecting 24. Similar phenomenon as the 'soap opera effect' on modern TVs. #3 The lighting in the environment is almost too good, and exactly how you would/do try and light something like this if you were creating it with vfx. There's a ton of atmosphere and Incredibly soft diffusion from the cloud cover makes everything look a little dreamy and surreal and cinematic with no harsh highlights or shadows; this is a common compositing technique to try and blend different elements of renders together harmoniously. You can see this to some extent in this vfx breakdown from Arrival with shots that don't look all that dissimilar -
  21. Good lord, I am glad I have never taken a loan out from where some of you guys have. Everything was show to me, well before I signed anything, every month, every payment, the interest rate, how much I would be paying in interest... Again, I am 100% for forgiving loans, starting with school loans, then CC debt and then mortgage.
  22. They're moving signing period up with this proposal after just pushing back the content periods. You're going from no in person contact to signing in a 10 month window.
