The Somerset TE also has conflicting reports why he committed to Minnesota as well. There is a lot of talk Nebraska and Wisconsin cooled on him due to personality. Reason he quickly committed to Minnesota soon after. Kid had the talent. Sure anything can happen with Dietzen but it is apparent the one offer any school nationally had to fear him gettting was that Wisconsin offer. Doesn't sound like he will end his recruitment anytime soon but one has to think if you're Wisconsin you're feeling extremely good.

Wisconsin just offered him! He camped there this week and as expected they followed our offer with one of their own. Will be interesting to see what Dietzen does but doesn't look good imo.

Thank freaking God!!!! I know he hasn't verballed yet but at least one can sleep easier knowing we at least came through with a offer. Can never have doubts of what might of been. I'm sure we will know very soon one way or another.

That is to bad. Kid definitely looked like a mauler with some athletic ability. But as mentioned, he was Wisconsin's to lose for quite awhile now.

So Kansas State, Stanford and now UCLA? Fit or not, going to really suck having someone the talent of Phillips go out of state if we don't offer in the end.

Sadly DT recruiting is the toughest position to recruit period. To find kids that are big, fast and strong already that have the motor to play DT aren't in abundance. It leaves most schools looking for kids that can project into a quality DT. Tricky thing is, no one knows how the kid will play once you put weight on him. Some lose that athletic burst and the added weight drains their stamnia. Also many "big kids" just don't have the drive or motor to start with. There was a reason they were big in the first place. Character, heart and motor becomes key in DT recruiting imo.

I would assume body language and effort are two big telling signs. Anyone that has coached picks up quickly on things like that. If a kid is moping around or not giving 100%, that says a lot about how they handle adversity.

Very rarely do coaches pay any attention to the "stars" made by recruiting sites (fans shouldn't care either). If you have followed recruiting nationally long enough only those that are in extreme hotbed areas of talent like the South, Texas or California pay attention to stars. I've seen Ole Miss and USC staffs allude to it but majority of the time most coaching staffs pay no attention to them. Most of them that don't pay attention are coaching in regions were there is either one of two things happening... not a huge abundance of regional talent and they know their schools don't get the "bumps" by the recruiting services when a kid commit to them. They just worry about finding the best possible talent that fits what they are looking for on and off the field. Work ethic and character are the two biggest. We should know better that there has been soooo many "lower rated" star kids perform at a 4-5* level in college.

We aren't at the level of Michigan/Ohio State and never have been when it comes to "recruiting". We have historically pulled in some very good classes but where we make our hay is on the coaching front. We are not lacking in talent that is for sure but those two other schools are sitting in hotbeds of big time talent... namely in Ohio. They can get more highly kids to commit early. Els is also right. We won't see a lot of kids committing to us unless one they grew up Husker fans or they are from the "500 mile" region. This is about the time of year when those East/West coast kids finally start to be able to get to Lincoln for a visit. Regional kids (Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, etc) it is no problem to visit Lincoln but there are only so many of those kids of a high caliber to do so. We just have to remember to be patient even if it is not easy to do. The class always fills up and it is always top notch.

My guess is Nebraska, Kansas State and Iowa in that order. I don't have a Scout subscription though.

They are from Texas and they grow up with Texas being "it". Just the same way Nebraska kids are with us. Some kids don't look at the big picture, they just see Texas and nothing else. Some wise up and go where they are needed, others find out the hard way.

I've finially chimed into this thread after reading it over many of times through the months. First off yes it does seem much like the old BIG XII North. But the numbers are really not that much different between the two divisions surprisingly. I would also point out the split in divisions isn't going away. If the B1G expands further, that will continue the split. Where we are located, we will always be playing teams like Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and very likely Wisconsin. That isn't going to change no matter if the B1G decides to bring in some BIG XII schools or teams to the East. I'm in the boat that doesn't think Wisconsin is trending down. I think Andersen arguably could be a better coach than BB. They are still loaded with a lot of talent. They are going to be a thorn in our side for many many years. They have a certain brand of football they play and they gear everything towards that brand. That keeps stability regardless of who the head coach is to an extent. One thing you have to realize about Wisconsin is the fact they do not fear us. Frankly none of the teams in the B1G fear us currently. What we did against BIG XII and namely BIG XII North opponents means very little going forth in the fear factor with the B1G West or even East teams. That is something to keep in mind. I also don't expect Iowa to stay down very long either. I think we are going to see the B1G as a whole improve as the years go by with the some of the focus of recruiting changing. The league is recruiting more southern athletes but only time will tell how effective that will be. We are going to face some recruiting challenges possibly with this split. How effective will we be recruiting East now that we won't be there all the time? We also have the whole ESPN/SEC crap the B1G as a whole has to fight. We stand a great chance of being the power of the West but at this moment Wisconsin can say the same or if not more so.

Problem in getting Harrison is the same problem we faced with Bubba. He is going to get drafted very highly in baseball. Only time will tell how things shake out.

To be honest we probably lucky in the long run we didn't get the kid. Sounds like the reason Wisconsin didn't offer because he is not a good lockerroom fit. Take that whatever way you want, but it does say something.

Kid is a freak! I really like our chances with Freedom. There is a big Polynesian there at Grandview by the name of Apa Visinia that KU just offered that is someone to keep a eye on. Kid is enormous and is like 6'5", 360-pounds right now but use to be bigger. Kid can actually move very well for his size. Probably someone schools want him to get down to at least 330-pound range.

Imo I think we stand a better chance right now landing Newell than anyone. I know that isn't breaking news to anyone but it seems like everyone down in Kansas that follows the recruitment think he is going to be a Husker.

In the end I feel he is likely going to end up at Kansas State unless offered. From what I have been told there are multiple KSU commits working him hard and they know he is just waiting for a Nebraska offer but how long does he wait? The RSS crap didn't help either.

Played high school and NAIA football in Kansas.

Minnesota isn't great but they aren't horrible though. They already have six wins and bowl eligible. We SHOULD win our last two games safely.

Snyder is known for not putting in a lot of time during the season recruiting. He wants his staff worrying about coaching the players that are there currently. Snyder loads up heavily on JUCO's and grey-shirts. Then the rest are high school kids that will likely red-shirt. With the grey-shirts he takes kids from small schools or projects and develops them for generally two years (grey-shirt and red-shirt years) before they even hit the field as freshman. So a kid may come in as 6'2", 245-pounds (4.8) but after two years he is 6'2", 290-pound DT that is a good athlete. Remember this kid is still a freshman eligibility wise. Again developing and coaching up players are the key.

We would get killed against K-State. Turnovers and pentalies would have to be nil. On top of that the reason teams don't run on KSU is because they are very good against it and teams are playing from behind against them. They score a lot of points and they don't give up many points. Oklahoma State scored the most on them then anyone and they came in with the #1 offense in the Big XII. It isn't to say we wouldn't have a chance but I would assume every school comes into the game thinking KSU isn't as good as they are. Then they get slapped with a cruel reality.
