  1. I agree. As you watch the football playoff, it is immediately apparent that all fours teams have great talent on both sides of the ball, with depth beyond their starters. I am not sure how much can be done this year, but anyone who thinks recruiting isn't that important and all players can be developed is fooling themselves.
  2. completely agree. Michigan is 7-5/6-6 next year. Nebraska most likely 9-3 lol, michigan will get the elite kids they need and be a top tier team in 2-3 years......michigan state and ohio state will get the rest, we will get the bones! Although I think we might do better than the bones, I am afraid, at the core, you might be right in terms of the tiers of recruiting talent. However, I have heard a couple hundred times how well MR recruited for a school that had poor resources. For those who know, just how bad was it at Oregon State? Perhaps the facilities rich program at Lincoln, along with MR's fresh perspective will help more than we think.
  3. I must have watched as much college football in the past week than any other time I can remember. Charged for next year and chomping at the bit for some positive recruiting news.
  4. Or Winston's claim in the press conference that the game could have gone either way.
  5. Ohio State did this with its 3rd QB. Pretty amazing depth.
  6. Although I do not agree with everything that everyone writes, isn't that the fun and point of a discussion forum? As soon as it becomes everyone agreeing on each point it will cease to be interesting.
  7. Valid point. There are posters that bring up this is about Pelini. It's not. Pelini is drawing a nice little paycheck courtesy of his buyout. He's fine. This is about the head coaching market and where Nebraska stands with all our resources, facilities, tradition, and history. Apparently, we found out. So someone is willing to sell you a New prius for 25k, another dealership offers you the exact same prius for 50k. So you spend the extra 25k just to show that you can? Ps prius was used because Riley drives one I would say either way you got ripped off!
  8. You can't follow the NFL very much if you think JH wouldn't be on the short list of desired candidates by every pro team with a vacancy.
  9. It did bring back great memories. Watching it was a thing of beauty. I have seen a Paul Johnson Navy team with 250 pound linemen make greater talent look silly.
  10. Personally, I have come around from being very skeptical about MR to hopeful he can recruit and coach this program back into national relevance. However, there is no question JH is the type of boom hire that will pull recruits from around the B1G and beyond. I happen to think JH is a great hire for Michigan and he has proven he can turn a program around. However, I don't think improving inter-conference competition will hurt, but rather help. After all, the alleged tough schedule has not limited how many teams are ranked in the Top Ten from the SEC. I also think the direct recruiting impact might affect Ohio State and Michigan State more than us. It will not be until 2016 that either Michigan or Nebraska can bring in a class of their own so all of this is such wait and see.
  11. Heavens I hope you are right. I have not been overwhelmed with the HC or OC hire, but the talk of a pro style O is very encouraging. I agree that not only is it the most versatile, it is a huge recruiting chip. Sure Alabama is attractive because of their wins, but a lot of kids also know it is the most NFL ready program in the nation. That attracts blue chip prospects.
  12. Coming off the suspension to Raiola for stomping as well.
  13. I disagree. More often than not he hurries and doesn't set his feet. I think TA has a ton of upside. Those are only two of his many issues, but they are both larger problems than some realize. It takes a quarterback years (the ones who actually succeed) to get rid of the bad habits he displays. It is one thing to show progress on the practice field, but many revert back to poor passing mechanics during a game-speed enviornment. If USC didn't have a secondary with all thumbs, it would have been very ugly last night. I hope Coach Riley does well, but many are already fooling themselves with what he can come in and do in a single season. Hopefully he starts with recruiting well because we simply don't have the talent to meet current expectations.
  14. Good stat, but I am not sure a single off season of coaching will fix his inaccuracy.
  15. I have no problem with his tribute to the coach that bonded with him during the first years of his adult life.
  16. I hope not. not sure if I hope so or not.but if he does turn a pretty big name QB recruit after the dead period... that would tell me someone on the staff watched some tape and wasn't sold... I wouldn't mind a QB recruit, just not a pure-pocket guy. Look at the top 20 teams, maybe 4-5 use pure pocket guys. It's not what wins anymore. Now a pass first with some mobility, JT Barrett/Blake Sims style would be great. I would welcome a pure pocket passer if he was good at it. It sure worked in Alabama (before Sims this year). Ultimately, I like a solid running game. The ability to run the ball coupled with play action from a quarterback who can accurately throw down field will always win games. One of the reasons (not the only one) that Bama attracts so many top recruits is they know that system translates well to playing on Sundays.
  17. It makes sense as social media is an influence on everything these days. I hope Riley explores out east. There are a lot of great athletes from NY to VA who are looking to play out of their state. With MD and Rutgers now B1G, there is a real opportunity in an often overlooked region. There are more Pierson El's to be found out here.
  18. If BE is behind it, I am not sure why others are not. Perhaps what will make this hire special is beyond him having the credentials and education to teach strength and conditioning and create programs; but also to be able to install a dominant attitude and year-round culture of dedication towards improvement. Isn't that what sets all great coaches apart from the rest? Perhaps more than any other facet of preparation, the strength and speed work you do off season does more to improve you than what you do from the end of summer to the bowl game.
  19. I was one who was not pleased with the hire. You know what, thank goodness for disagreement! Sports fans will always argue, debate, bitch and opine about their teams, and everyone else's teams. Its part of what makes it fun. Much of ESPN and sports talk radio revolves around programing that not only inspires discussion, but disagreement. Heck, this board would be boring as hell if we all agreed and had the same opinion on every topic. We spend some time here because we don't. The bottom line is wins make people happy. We can try to create some artificial comfort in thinking it is different in Nebraska, but it isn't. If this coach wins, people will love him. If he wins less than nine games, or especially if he has losing seasons, there will be cries from Omaha to Scotts Bluff for the AD and coach to both be fired. That doesn't mean we have less pride, but the culture and history of this program has created expectations, and they are not going away. Thank goodness for that, I say. Nebraska fans are very special. We travel as well as any in this great nation, we show up to home games and we are generally well informed about the game. We are passionate! Just don't think it is necessary to support every move with a blinders on without allowing that passion to voice its disapproval or disagreement once in a while. Times of change breed uncertainty and questions. How these questions will be answered will be up to the new coach, and I can't wait. During the bowl, recruiting, and staff hiring, there will be more controversy coming soon. But make no mistake about it, we are all scarlet and cream. Life is good.
  20. This is so close between OSU and TCU, but the tie breaker for me is the team from a conference with a championship game should get the nod. Alabama Oregon FSU Ohio St
  21. It will certainly be fun watching the staff being constructed. I am even more excited about a late push to a recruiting season that needs a strong finish. What are your thoughts about our largest recruiting needs? What geographical areas might be tapped into now that were not over the last decade? Might some prospects give a second look at us?
  22. Answer to your questions are in the middle if the article http://www.cornnation.com/2014/12/4/7335055/so-who-did-nebraska-hire-when-eichorst-picked-mike-reilly Great read, questions answered. Thank you
  23. Coaching can help, but TA better learn to throw with more accuracy.
