  1. Steve Warren. Did not get enough press for his steady performance holding up the center of the Blackshirt defensive line allowing tackles, rush ends and linebackers to get most of the glory.
  2. Surgically remove Steve Pederson from being hired. His absence would have eliminated Callahan and his era of Husker tradition destruction. Don't know if Solich would have been fired or what another coach might have done. For sure, Husker history would have been gone down a different path.
  3. "Ya, Eichorst has really not impressed me. Florida had an utter abomination of a season but they had less drama because their AD killed it." I agree that Eichorst did not handle the situation well. I attribute to his being a relative rookie and young. He thought he was taking the high road but did not see the unintended consequences. Hopefully, he is smart enought ot learn and can build a good relationship with Bo.
  4. Warren looks good on paper. But, I don't know much about coaches out there so I will rely on Bo's judgement. I have seen Craig Bohl fail as as the Husker DC and go on to be one of the best head coaches at NDSU. Shawn Watson didn't do well as our OC but did well at Louisville- at Texas??? Marvin got great results on the field as the DB coach but failed in other areas- apparently a lazy recruiter from a recent post. I hope Warren is a good recruiter- we really need it. I also hope he will coach his DBs to play aggressive. I wish him success. I am concerned that he had a bigger role at USAFA but will be only a DB coach for us. Will he be looking for another job as a DC right away?
  5. Can we PLEASE stop asking for him to come back. He is NOT coming back...EVER!!!!! Please- let's bring him back. He got great results just don't give him a credit card again.
  6. I still think the Huskers should stay with the standard uniforms even if we have to pay the manufacturers to get them. The modern stuff the manufacturers have been putting out look like crap. No monetary inducement justifies getting the new crap.
  7. I honestly think this has more to do with money than it does with UGA. UGA was a good match up for us. I think its getting way too ridiculous that fans in the North have to travel non-stop. There is no reason why we couldn't put a bowl game in Minneapolis or Indy, if not both. The $EC schools need to start traveling. I fully agree with the thought of having some bowl games up north under domes. The SEC should have to travel distances too. I expect that most bowl orgainzers have thoughts of tourists taking in the game and staying on to spend money in nice vacation spots. I am not sure how many tourist fans would want to be in northern cities in the winter. However, the football only fans should be willing to make the trip. Plane fares are up too with tack on fees added. I cancelled my Thanksgiving trip this year and last year because the plane fares were much too high. Maybe if the economy comes back and the Feds allows the energy drilling everywhere the fuel costs will drop down.
  8. Some random thoughts: 1. Fans in the Stands. Large blocks of seats not sold. Clearly more Bulldog fans that Huskers. Huskers not travelling well now? No interest in playing Georgia again? Seems like we used to travel in great numbers to any game even one as far away as Hawaii. 2. Play Calling. None of us are perfect play callers but it seems to me that Beck somehow winds up in a 3rd and long too many times. He seems to like slow developing plays behind the LOS or out in the flat behind the LOS against fast defenses. It seems to me that when we don't have power running success in the first half, Beck still wastes too many plays up the middle in the late quarters. 3. Bo. He seemed to be in control more and I was very happy and surprised with his half time interview. He did a good job. I hope our assistants have matured more this year and ready to battle the best coaching staffs in the country. 4. Turnovers. We did a much better job today but Bo has had problems for several seasons. We need to get a handle on the ball. Newby seems to drop the ball too much. Our secondary played well in coverage but we seem to be a little less agressive now for interceptions and soft in the middle. Can't complain too much though since we held Georgia to three FGs and one TD. We gave up yards but got tough inside the 30. 5. Field Position. We need to do better with special teams and getting the offense up the field enough to win the field position game. We need much more emphasis on the kicking game. Foltz seems good for at least one shank per game. 6. Blackshirts. They played much better in the second half of the season and played with a lot of heart for the full game. I have a lot of hope for next year. 7. Team. The team is full of heart and effort. I am proud of them. Even in the losses they played hard and most of hte losses were due to us shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers, fumbles, drops, and penalties.
  9. The traditional uniforms are great and the throwbacks are good too. The new age designer uniforms are pure crap and ugly. The designer's brains are fried with too many drug uses and way too much computer generated science fiction hero movies. Stay with the scarlet and cream (aka red and white).
  10. Its bowl game just like any other game. Root for the team and don't make excuses or slam them. We get it- you don't like Bo. I just hope the good Husker team shows up- the one that doesn't shoot themselves in the foot several times in the first half.
  11. Root for Ohio State- our in conference team. Better for our recruiting if an SEC team does not win I think. Root for Missouri- an old conference team. Missouri is an old Big 8 friend/foe. Again not an SEC team.
  12. Too many people can vent their rage on social media without ever being held accountable. Many get vicious and its usually not warranted unless you are talking about rapists, child molesters, murderers, Liberals, socialists, progressives and communists. I think the major problem here is that the coaches take it personally and the players see it or perceive it. Probably, the biggest impact is on the perspective recruits, their high school coaches and their parents.

i don't think you can blame it all on S&C. S&C can help reduce injuries and certainly is a big difference in the second half performance and effort. I believe that S&C and a strong coaching on fundamentals can reduce injuries. Good body position and tackling/blocking fundamentals will help. You can never avoid all injuries but why such a rash of injuries? From things my sons experienced, the new S&C guys think football is played with bursts of speed and exertion of less than 40 yards. Therefore, they only emphasize strength and agility work. They need a mix with endurance training. Helps the body recover more quickly from fatigue and muscle recovery (build up of acid in the muscle cells). I think the players are in a better condition to exert themselves at 100% play after play and later to do so in the later quarters.
  14. I think the decision makers are also thinking about the Solich and Callahan experiences. Solich was forced to make some staff changes and many fell Solich was fired before the new staff had a decent chance to make things right. The rush to fire Solich because of his mediocre seasons took us directly to a huge mistake- Callahan. Under Callahan we got a coach who did not fit in with Nebraska culture or traditions, lost records and streaks, and a losing season. He almost destroyed Husker football. Bo needs to make changes. Hopefully, he will see the frustration in his program and the fans leading to some changes. If not, we can only hope the decisions makers force some staff changes. We cannot keep on doing the same thing with the same staff and expect different results. The bright side is that the program is not in the crapper. We have many good things to build on. I think the current assistants have the desire but maybe not the experience or top notch ability. We can be great again but some changes are due.
  15. I think your assessment is right on the mark. I do believe our players are better than the record indicates. I hope that you are wrong about the assistant coaches. We need some changes for the coordinators. i also think we need a dedicated special teams coach and much more emphasis on the recruiting area. If nothing changes within the program, we will continue to get the same results every year except that it might be harder and harder to get good recruits to sign up with a mediocre historic football power.
  16. Don't let the sell out streak end. We lost many streak records under Callahan. The sell out streak belongs to the fans not the coach or the team. If we are the most loyal and the best fans, keep buying the tickets. This is one record that we own and no one in the country can take it from us unless we stop going to the games. If we break the streak, we probably cound not tie that record again in any of our life times.
  17. Good assessment. I think the defense needs to emphasize speed and stopping first down yardage and yards after contact. In past decades we have trouble with stopping the run effectively but being vulnerable to passing on third downs- usually against top 20 teams. Our defense seondary has done good for the past few years but started to slip the last few games of the season. Many times when we failed to blitz on third down and rushed only four without getting pressure. A coaching issue more than player but Valentine looked like the type who could make a four man rush work. The defensive/rush ends were not as effective or as present as some years ago. The offense- we have done fairly well but I still think the offensive line is not as good as we need. They improved as the season went along despite the numerour injuires. The receivers were a great crew but got the dropsies over the past few games- product of different throwers??? Beck seems to go in streaks with good calls and then gets over conservative. I am not sure what the offense's style is now. In Osborne's day, you would call it an option or power running with I Backs. We seem to be tryiing to do a lot of everything now. I would not want an offense known for running only. Osborne and Solich suffered from that in my opinion. Opponents put 8 or 9 men in the box to stop the run or option daring us to throw the ball. Good teams usually beat us using that strategy. We need to be a running offense with a very credible passing attack to keep the opponents honest. Not by name, but I think we need a new DC, D Line coach, strength & conditioning coach, and an assistant Head Coach to shepherd the offense and recruiting. The most urgent need is a Special Teams coach. Field position is maybe the most important aspect of the game after stoppiing turnovers especially unforced turnovers. Reading the previous posts, no one will agree with yours or my suggestions- but this is my two cents worth.
  18. I'm sorry you feel that way. The sad part is, some people actually read this and believe you when you say that. Until you have met the guy in person, please be careful of what you say. Sidenote: Pelini has young children and his kids and family have had to deal with the fanbase (the self-proclaimed, "Greatest Fans in College Football") this year, through all of this media garbage... Try explaining to a 3rd grader how you could lose your job and the entire state would know about it. And yes Bo can be an aggressive, toe-the-line type of person but it's that mentality that turns in championship teams and helps form boys to men. - And please, do not compare this to Osborne. Although we respected Osborne over time, his lack of aggression/vocally expressing his angry or disagreement frustrated the fans like crazy. Osborne was also shielded from that because he had some assistant coaches and players who had no problem laying into a ref vocally. I agree with your comments. Some thought should be given to keeping Bo the coach, Bo the man, and Bo's family separate. I don't know how it could be accomplished wih media these days. However, we should try if we are really good people, good sportsmen and great fans.
  19. I have been a Bo supporter from the time he was hired. Today, I am very disappointed in him. I think its maybe time for him to either have a come to Jesus sitdown with some experts or to move on. We cannot continue to do the same thing next year as we have done for the past six years. I don't like losing but I know we can't win championships every year. But, I do expect that we play Husker tradition of excellence football without being humiliated or embarrassed every year. Bo has not taken back to our former standards. I don't know that I can expect him to do it next year. I don't know much about other coach candidates but I would hope that Ron Brown, Scott Frost and Craig Bohl are considered.
  20. Maybe, I could see one more year. But I can't see this entire staff escaping the offseason unscathed at this point. I agree with the staff changes. I don't think conditioning and basic fundamentals coaching will eliminate turnovers and injuries but I believe they will minimize the problems. If the posts about Bo's presser comments are true, he may be gone for sure. i don't think Perlmand, Athletic Dept and the fan base (particularly the moneyed fan base) want to be represented to the nation or conference with a temperamental head coach that lacks maturity and common sense. He could have ended his tenure at Nebraska with his mouth.
  21. I think it would be bad form to fire a coach before we know if we are going to a bowl game. Fire Bo: 1. Inconsistent defense over the years with some inexplicable blowouts against good and bad team. Apparent cause is usually schemes and prepartion IMO. 2. Turnovers high every year with no apparent improvement coming. 3. Sometimes poor special teams play this year particulary for punts. Some issues in previous years. 4. Bo's temper and loose mouth at times. 5. Loss of Husker tradition for excellence and very disappointing conference championship runs. Loss of the Blackshirts reputation. 6. Six years of mediocre performances. 7. Husker offensive line play has not improved to our standards and needs. 8. The game announcers remarked about his job being on line several times and also about his behavior. Lou Holtz's comments about the state of the program were not good at all. Perlman and Eichorst did not have favorable or supporting statements for Bo when given the chance. Keep Bo: 1. Winning seasons every year. 2. Stadium is still filled every game and the fans still travel. 3. Academic excellence still good. 4. Keeps the team motivated to play despite some heartbreaking and embarrassing losses. 5. Does not tolerate bad or criminal behavior from the players or coaches. 6. The coach and assistants contract buyout would be costly. 7. Firing would send a signal to perspective coaches that you must win championships or get fired- temperamental fan base and revolving coaches door. In the end, the new AD must consider if Bo would produce improvement next year or just more of the same from the past 6 years. Will a change be worth the cost in program funds? is there someone better who would take a chance after two coaches were fired after having all winning seasons? My guess because of the money situation, Bo gets one more year to prove himself.
  22. Bo probably can't change his personality. He was right to complain but needs to get his emotions under control. Perhaps the worst is the perception of his behavior. Sports is supposed to good hearted competition. we have a tradition of having the best and friendly fans in the country. I have met many people and some other school players who remarked about how good the fans and players behaved. The environment was set by three good coaches: Davaney, Osborne and Solich. Callahan's behavior did not fit in and now Bo is sticking out. Bo needs to be aware that he must set an exampl and people are always looking at him. Unfortunately, he seems to let his emotions control his behavior at times.
  23. We seem to have more injuries that I ever remember in past years since the 1960's. The strength and conditioning program should be looked at closely.
  24. Pelini and Back need to pay attention to clock management now.
