  1. Who else was available? I'd love to see the list.
  2. This would be the greatest thing ever. I'll finally find out if a coach would ever commit self immolation on the field.
  3. This times Eleventy Billion. ELEVENTY.
  4. Speculating is the mother of all forums. I have no idea how injured Tommy is but I am speculating that he is hurting to a moderate degree. Why? Because his mobility yesterday was notably limited and he obviously limped at times. Also, not to much more than a week ago he was wearing boot and Riley made the comment that he wouldn't play had there been a game rather than a bye. And Tommy's checked out for a few series in at least one but maybe more games. How is it ever right for a team or an individual to play an obviously hurting player? I trust Riley to make the morally right decision but I would not be surprised to hear that Tommy sits this week. If we lose because the 2nd string QB can't cut it then so be it. We're not much of a team to begin with. There is a difference between playing hurt and playing injured. Its football. You are going to get dinged up during the course of the season, doesnt mean its wrong to play someone that is dinged up. Tommy would tell you the same thing. If he can go, he goes.ok what about Alonzo Moore? You could argue he was just dinged up but coaches sat him a few games. Sometimes toughing through things isn't the best option, even if your are hurt not injured Nebraska has slightly more depth @ WR than QB.
  5. Because he just got fired for having a good, not great record. You can't have a good, not great record at USC, Notre Dame or Texas and last very long. Maybe he wants to lay low, establish connections in the B1G footprint, and then see what happens? If Mark Richt and Mike Riley can end up at Miami and Nebraska, I'm sure Les Miles will get a better job offer than Purdue I don't think I made my point clear. I think he can absolutely get a better job than Purdue, but, since he was fired for having a good, not great record at a high-stakes job, maybe he wants to dial it down for a while and get back to basics. Have an easier, less pressure job now that he's older and be in the same division as his son for the next 4-5 years. Idk. Makes a little sense, no? Les Miles won 77% of his games @ LSU, I'd say that's great (just my personal opinion there). It's an interesting theory but I'm not sure it holds a ton of water for a few reasons. First, are we sure Purdue can even afford a guy like Miles? Hazell was 'only' making $2mm/year and that was a 100%+ increase over the last guy. I think Miles is going to make at least $3mm in his next job and I just can't see Purdue getting there. Second, Miles is 62, I think his next job is frankly his last one so I think he's going to be pretty selective, even if that means sitting out a year. I think he ends up in the South/Big 12 country personally. However, if Notre Dame were to fire Brian Kelly...Miles would certainly be on the short list there (Miles is from Ohio). I totally get your premise about wanting to take over a perennial doormat and spinning them up but reclamation projects are a young mans game and frankly, I don't know if Miles has enough juice in the tank for something like that.
  6. Interesting. So being responsible for shaping/leading young men in athletics and college is irrelevant as long as the football program is successful? Do you believe that the leadership in the football program should have certain moral convictions having the responsibility they have? One does not have to be religious or believe in a higher being to show leadership, moral convictions, responsibility and lead men. One can have "faith in their abilities" and be successful without believing in god. Acting morally does not exist for a person who does not believe in a higher power; rather these people are following and imitating a behavior that has become acceptable in a society. Lol wut?
  7. It's available to everyone. The arrogant are the ones that don't feels like they need anything other than themselves. So having total self belief in oneself is a bad thing?
  8. This thread is a giant level right?
  9. I don't think Oregon will have trouble if Helfrich gets canned. They are a very attractive program right now, especially for someone like Herman who is an offensive guy. They have a ton of speed and they are super attractive to recruits, with Nike constantly pumping money into the program. If they get a guy who can recruit at all they will continue to stay competitive and be a top 15 or so program for the foreseeable future. They have too many good things going for them not to be There is some rumblings in the Pac NW that if/when Helfrich gets shown the door that UO will make a run at bringing Scott Frost in to run the show. It appears that Frost has a great relationship with Phil Knight. And well...what Uncle Phil wants...Uncle Phil gets. It's very hard for me to see Tom Herman going anywhere but Texas or the SEC. If I'm an AD with a HC opening, I'm making a strong run at Kyle Whittingham. Always been a big fan of his. He reminds me a lot of Chris Petersen.
  10. I don't understand why we don't just hold up a sign with 4 quadrants that say: Step 1: Blitz Step 2: Don't Blitz Step 3: ? Step 4: Profit
  11. This makes me smile quite a bit and stings just as much all at the same time.
  12. Helton seems like he's righted the ship a little bit. USC has won 2 in a row---pasting ASU and squeaking by Colorado. As long as they finish .500, I think he gets another year.
  13. Not quite. If Tanner Lee wins the starting QB job, Nebraska will at least have a guy with a couple years of experience under his belt.
  14. Pretty good lineup for the next 3. I was a really little guy when Phi Slamma Jamma was around so I'm pretty stoked to see that. If it's anything close to the HBO special that they did on the UNLV Runnin Rebs of the late 80s/early 90s, that would be terrific. I agree with an earlier poster that about the Catholics/Convicts one, the special they did on 'The U' already touched on the game a little bit so I'll be curious to see how much deeper they delve into it.
  15. I don't think using age 35 Carl Crawford as a barometer for durability is a good idea for predicting college age durability. For kicks, I took a look at Carl Crawford's durability from his age 21 through age 25 seasons (he didn't get called up to the majors until midway through his age 20 season) here are his games played... 2003-151 2004-152 2005-156 2006-151 2007-143 I'm pretty sure he would've been ok. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/crawfca02.shtml
  16. I really like where the coaching staff is taking the team. I reached out to Husker Psycho and while he didn't get back to me, I'm guessing this is what he would say....
  17. So if I happen to be in the area, I can just walk up and buy a ticket? Yeah, I would imagine if you wait until right after the game kicks off, you'll be able to find a ticket for dirt cheap. Indiana's football stadium holds a little more than 50k. I'd be stunned if it was more than 75% full for the Nebraska game.
  18. I've learned that this team has some terrific moxie and leadership. In the 4th quarter they cut the heart out of Illinois and showed it to them before they died and there was absolutely nothing Illinois could do about it. Cethan Carter is a monster at TE. When he went out, it made things a whole lot harder on the offensive side. That dude is going to get paid at the next level. Nebraska is 5-0. This is a good thing. They're playing sloppy at times but still finding ways to win. This is encouraging to me. I'm not the least bit impressed by Wisconsin offensively. It was painful to watch them yesterday. Yes, their defense is quite nasty and will be a good test when NU goes up there in a few weeks. The bye week is coming at a great time.
  19. What do you mean here? Compared to what? What was run last year? Or what was run the year he made all conference as an underclassman? Running mostly Cover 3 this year vs. Quarters last year. No way you get a response on this one. Your point was too logical. I'd also like to point out there is a difference between all conference as an underclassman and all-american. Why would I need to respond? Mavric made the point. The scheme (and communication) was awful last year. Glad they are changing some principles back to stuff similar to what we did defensively before. Aww CM, don't tell us you're getting soft. Offseason CM would've required 3 links and a 2 page single spaced response. Even then, if the response wasn't typed up in the MLA format you would've responded with, "It's hard to follow your point, could you clarify what you mean?"
  20. Hard to blame Aranda for making the move as LSU just about tripled his salary. Their defense has been pretty good all things considered. Also, it looks like his contract isn't tied to Miles. http://www.buckys5thquarter.com/2016/1/2/10702692/dave-aranda-salary-lsu-football-wisconsin-badgers
  21. Bobby Petrino or Tom Herman come on downnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Although if Houston some how gets in the Big 12 this seems less likely.
  22. find me tape of teams that routinely get pressure with 4. Go ahead. Illwait. This obsession is so misplaced. Not just you. But i see it all the time. And its not just here. First of all. Its 5 on 4. Sometimes 6 on 4. So getting pressure with 4 isnt supposed to happen anyway. Our defense was solid tonight. With everythinv that went on. And in the 4th, it was the DEFENSE that closed this game out. Ppl better realize that. 13 points folks. Not 35. Team willgain yards. Teams will move the ball. Watch some football outside Nebraska and the desire for 18 sacks and 0 ppg week in week out. +1 to you sir. Wholeheartedly agree. There is one, maybe two or three teams I can think of that can routinely get pressure on the QB with 4 guys. One is Alabama. The other two are in the NFL. Our DL isn't quite in that category. And yes, that is some heavy sarcasm.
  23. Nebraska has some sweet misdirection plays in the arsenal and when they work...it's awesome. We also learned that Nebraska is a covering machine ATS.
  24. What happened to Eutaw? I need his NFL picks for tomorrow. So I can bet the opposite.
