  1. I agree with him. This is Allen’s last game. He needs 13 yards to pass Junior Miller for most Tight End yards at Nebraska & he will be drafted. It would say a lot to recruits that you work hard - you get rewarded by recognizing such things. Why you would NOT target such a talented player at some point in the second half is what would be unreal.
  2. One more week until we see rumors of coaches pretending to be interested in the Nebraska (and other school's) openings ONLY so they can negotiate a raise from their current gigs! The longer this drags out past next weekend/Monday/Tuesday, the worse I will feel about Nebraska's prospects. If we have an OC target and the interest is honest and reciprocal, then I hope we/they are filling out the assistant spots in short order.
  3. This was probably discussed back when it happened (or didn't happen) - but I'm curious if and where things might stand NOW: https://www.cornnation.com/2020/1/17/21070572/report-former-nebraska-quarterback-mickey-joseph-turns-down-job-offer-to-coach-at-nebraska-frost
  4. Masker is from Norfolk. Haarberg is from Kearney.
  5. Someone may have said this already (haven't read the entire thread yet) but Frost made it sound like Haarberg would be backup for Iowa. That surprised me.
  6. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but... As pleased as I am for Chinander's success, is anybody else concerned how well the defense will hold up after loss of all the Super Seniors on that side of the ball? I'm wondering how much of that success is due to the experience on the field and not sure how we have been doing at recruiting/developing/retaining the next guys up. With all of the focus on the offensive side of the equation, I just don't think we can necessarily take the defensive side for granted next year.
  7. Part of his job is to RECRUIT the players he will develop. But I think the main epiphany (for me) from this article is that you can successfully put a great athlete from many positions (including offense) on the OLine and develop them. Obviously this requires a cooperative player (being convinced of the wisdom of such a move). But you need a guy who is willing to play wherever for the good of the team. The Transfer Portal may make such a player rarer, these days, but if you can successfully redeploy someone AND get them in the NFL, I guarantee more players will listen regarding such a move. Your staff has to have the players trust that they know what they are talking about when it comes to the possibility of getting drafted at the next level.
  8. Related: I feel it interesting that Will Shields (who played 14 years for the KC Chiefs without missing a single start) was recruited by Arkansas to be turned into a defensive lineman. https://www.chiefs.com/news/shields-in-2015-the-story-behind-his-recruitment-to-nebraska-14857224
  9. My favorite line was: 6. Great defenses always have one thing in common - EVERYONE CAN RUN! 250 [lbs] at the point of the tackle is better than 300 [lbs] on the way!
  10. I’ll just leave this here. #CoachesCorner: Tips on building elite offensive and defensive line units
  11. Chip Kelly may be available. LOL I wonder if Trev had any "suggestions" on AM coming back for Year 5.
  12. I think we may be hearing some interesting quotes coming out of some of The Departed. I would personally love to know how much of this year's play-calling was Lubick and how much was Scott Frost and how much was a tug-of-war between them. I sort of got the impression that Lubick was not making the calls and if he was there might have been some consistency. Frost's playcalling and clock management has been a mess long before Lubick got here. EDIT: Time to go Avatar shopping!
  13. Out 2 hours ago: Andrew McDonough's take (under McDonough's Musings): https://www.si.com/college/notredame/football/college-football-roundup-week-10-shakes-up-playoff-picture
  14. My fear is that any decision to keep Frost is based more upon Trev's newness to the seat of an AD in a Power 5 conference (and the number of networking connections that he has made) and less about what Frost deserves. I think they force SF to get rid of the OL coach and hire a ST coach which appears to "fix" the two most glaring problems that cost them games this year. That may be enough to give (many) people hope that next year could be the real turnaround. I'm still trying to figure out why we have heard NOTHING more regarding the NCAA investigation. It seemed to me that was groundwork being done (prior to Trev Albert's hiring). If you put two and two together, it would seem to indicate that Frost was, if not just "on notice", then definitely on his way out. But if they don't already have a Plan B waiting in the wings I don't think they pull the trigger. EDIT: This article mentions the possibility of Nebraska waiting to see what becomes of legal challenges to similar NCAA investigations at other schools: https://saturdaytradition.com/nebraska-football/b1g-debate-should-scott-frost-get-another-year-at-nebraska/
  15. Thank goodness. There are other 3-5 teams on the list: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-rankings-umass-retains-no-1-status-in-the-bottom-25-as-critical-stretch-begins/
  16. Yes, yesterday's column included this bit: "I definitely know it got the attention of other people in leadership positions when the embattled Nebraska coach told reporters, "A team shouldn't need the head coach to motivate them all the time." Interesting turn of phrase.
  17. So where does the NCAA investigation stand? The original interpretation of this was that it was the University's way of: a) Putting Frost on notice regarding this season's results b) Giving Nebraska justification to fire him "with cause" which would free them from the $20M payout. Last I heard Frost had "lawyered up" and it looked like he was preparing to fight for the payout, if that came to fruition. It has been crickets since then. Does anybody have any insights on where this all stands?
  18. Gary Patterson's leaving sooner, rather than end-of-season, seems to be a good strategic move (for him) if he is looking at another position somewhere else. If he is already talking with another A.D. (or three) it seems to also free those A.D.s to make a firing before the season ends. It seems to me that if we don't want to completely blow a recruiting class, it would be helpful to have our next staff in place sooner, rather than later. Nobody is going to want to commit to a staff that (odds are) isn't going to be there next year. I also wonder if Patterson would be taking any assistants with him to his new destination? Which leads to another question in my mind: Are there any current assistants who would stay and remain an asset to a new incoming HC?
  19. Nebraska has reached the point where we have a reputation for making a coach independently wealthy even if they drive the program deeper into the Depths of Despair. Why would Frost even want to come back when he has money in the bank and $20M more guaranteed win or lose? We need to find a young lower level coach who has something to prove and can be hired for a contract that incentivizes improvement & bowl appearances.
  20. Agree with this take. The TV announcer on the Purdue game said “I’ve never heard 90,000 people be THIS QUIET.” Nobody goes to a Husker game expecting to give away the 12th man advantage and that is PATHETIC. My biggest concern is that Frost is failing at multiple Head Coaching roles. Frost is the Peter Principle in action - people tend to be promoted to a level above their competence.
  21. Well, it WOULD make sense that Larry the Cable Guy would be a member.
  22. I think we are all mystified how the same coaching staff that orchestrated the UCF turnaround AND beat Auburn in a big bowl game could come to Nebraska and perform as poorly as they have (particularly when compared with all other coaches for the same span). Yes, the games are competitive & I don't see players quitting on Frost (and team) which is ONE thing in their favor. However, we all know that being a successful coach means being successful at (or correctly delegating) multiple things: • Recruiting players (garbage in/garbage out) • Developing players (S&C plus practices and coaching players up) • Retaining players (with the new Transfer Portal rules) Then there is the proper assessment of players: • Giving scholarships to walk-ons that help the program • Recognizing where we need a Plan B (or a Plan A in the case of kickers and TRUE Special Teams coach) • Knowing that your best GAME player at every position is your starter • Managing your travel roster correctly Then there is game planning (or even Conference Level Planning) • Playcalling • Correct player rotation & substitution (Rotations on the lines and sustaining a drive to rest your defense, for example) • Ability to make adjustments during a game (The Illinois excuse is the worst excuse I have ever heard and I can't believe he uttered it.) • Clock management Frost can point to the fact that we are losing games by only one or two plays, but any one of the above (on the coaches, not the players) is what makes that one or two plays difference in the game.
