  1. We hired a very good coach but he isn’t God! The mess seems to be getting addressed faster than most thought possible but there are huge holes all over the team. It could theoretically happen that a good team (9 + wins) is fielded in the fall but to expect it is just unreasonable imo. The Big Ten is tough - top two-thirds anyway. Several wins are very likely IF most of the pieces fall into place. But after about 4, it will take a decent team to get further. We don’t know who the QB will be. We know the O line will be at best - mediocre. The defense will be very young and inexperienced all over. STs may be better but how much? The WRs will be raw, inexperienced and new. RBs could be OK but again depth and experience- ? TE is completely unknown and very doubtful. The team will be much more athletic but raw and green. 2023 is like a preseason season in my view. Win some - lose some. Main thing is get game reps to about 65 guys for ‘24 and beyond.
  2. Rhule wants first and foremost to build a program. Winning is secondary. Casey T will be a big part of the plan. So will Sims etal. I expect several QBs will contribute heavily no matter what days of the week they play. A great team is composed of lots of individuals. The plan is to win sooner and later but especially later and to become a consistent winning team, you must have good players at all three phases at atleast 3 deep. That can’t happen in one or even two years. But winning on the way to a good program is possible. I suspect the roster turnover will ultimately be massive in the next 18 months. Frost changed it a lot but basically never developed depth and missed on 80% of his recruits, annually. Rhule needs to cut this down to under 50%. Couple that with more reps at full contact in practices and many more snaps in games for the 3 -deep, and the team will improve over time.
  3. Most people live on $45,000 a year gross wages. If you make double that, you’re rich by most peoples’ standards. Just keeping things in perspective. That’s before taxes, benefits if u get them at all, are deducted.
  4. He still has it with a few who dare to speak his name. Frankly, will he find a job in fb anywhere? Kearney might be looking for some staff? He might not feel safe anywhere he gets recognized.
  5. Dark brown everything. Hate those floors. Omg. Beautiful to look at. Wouldn’t want to live in.
  6. Frankly, this is generally true of about all pizzas today. I blame the sauces but some of the cheeses aren’t as tasty either. The Val’s on Holdrege 40 years ago. It’s been so long I couldn’t say the last time I ate there so ??? Heck, Domino’s was actually decent back then too! Pizza Hut was much better in the 70s and 80s as well. I suppose the cut throat competition gave us cheaper and cheaper ingredients etc.
  7. One royal family! Wonder if there are some princesses too? Princella? Princetta? Princesca? Princerita? Princearina?
  8. Fleck hates other teams recruiting ‘his’ turf (or pond?). He said similar things about Frost too. We didn’t take any MN guys did we? Just wait. Rhule will snatch a couple at some point.
  9. They seem to have done well finding the guys to shore up the weakest areas. They should be ok at RB with the returning backs. May need a FB type and a good TE (blocking certainly) to complement the receiving ones. Maybe the move a TE in the backfield at times. They will have unmatched speed in a lot of spots for sure. And secondary will run too! Quietly in a way, they’ve assembled what could be fastest ‘skill group’ perhaps ever? Power? Idk. But pure speed will be elite. How they use it? Not sure. The issue I am wondering is how well they can block the perimeter.
  10. Well , he’s certainly a marketing wiz! Got everybody watching anyway. Maybe this ‘code’ needs a name for it ala the DaVinci code? Or something like the ‘Rhulex’ cipher. Lol. As you say, he’s making it all fun. If he can befuddle opponents in games, Husker FB will be all the rage. In these times, maybe it’s gimmicky in a way but it beats row the boat!
  11. These deals, I believe, cannot be affiliated with the schools. There can’t be ‘connections’ or conditions that relate back to the schools. The trick is not paying players to play - for your opponent in effect. The NIL is compensating for services rendered to the business / sponsor. Organized donations as such may get pretty ify if there is a clear relationship to the school such as ticket holders, clubs, etc. If coaches promise $$ from NIL then I’d say the school may be legally OK BUT still breaks NCAA pay for play (extra benefits) rules. NIL can’t ‘touch’ or be managed or influenced by the schools or ANY affiliated persons or orgs. In simple terms, my understanding of the SCOTUS ruling, is the schools and or NCAA can’t abridge a player’s right to earn money ‘on the side’ = free enterprise. The Court did not enjoin the NCAA or its rules as such. Athletes are free to make money, legally, by any reasonable means, whether in school or not. But the NCAA can still control what the school and any affiliated persons can do or provide. The real risk is the ‘trail’ (paper or electronic) between school officials and NIL orgs or sponsors. Any coordination etc is probably stepping over the line. I would guess the connections are in fact massive in some places / cases. Need a lot of burner phones and clandestine meetings to get the bags of cash to the right places / times / players. Lol. And tampering by contacting players still at one school (not in the portal officially) is still a big NO-NO. Getting caught (any player / prospect talks, for example), and troubles can follow. The solution: end the NCAA or the big schools need to withdraw. That’s where this is all headed in my opinion. A new CFL (college football league) of the big 64 whereby schools get out and form a new ‘league’ totally separate from all others in all sports, presumably. This is the core reason why schools, if they can, want to join the ‘big two’ (SEC and Big Ten). Musical chairs of positioning to be ‘in’ and not outside looking in. There’s not room, economically, and practically for hundreds of schools.
  12. Defense and offense - coordination is all about anticipation and understanding of your opponents and their play calling. Tendencies and strategy. Good D coordination requires good educated guessing on what will work and not work vis a vis the opponents. That’s where coaches that really work hard, long hours and study their opponents make or break the team. Sometimes players do their jobs but fail because the coaches put them in bad positions. All coaches are NOT equal. The past 5 seasons, Nebraska was out coached about 90% of the games, before MJ-Whipple-Busch took over. It got better but they replacement staff was hamstrung by having so much ‘system’ built in and so little time to re-scheme and so on. Wholesale schematic change was not really feasible in mid season. They simplified and adjusted - marginally anyway - which gave some benefits but the usual injuries and lack of depth/talent was just not fixable. At this point, Rhule is planning short and medium and longer term but there is no magical way to fix things in just one 3 weeks recruiting whirlwind tour nor even over the coming 8 months (45 practices roughly). I get the feeling Rhule is looking at an overhaul rather than total replacement. Maybe that can work but maybe not. A gradual changeover might be the plan. Hope he gets the time but idk. Fans are impatient - partly because they’ve been thru this 4 times already over 20 years. None took a complete rebuild - just a fix it and repeat as necessary approach. The focus on winning right away is the heart of the problem. Short cuts and budget skimping stuff just remains cosmetic. Recruiting is not over - hopefully - there are half a dozen nice additions needed. It’s great so far but we need to finish. The first half went well but the second half needs to follow thru. It’s tougher to finish than to start. I remain very hopeful but don’t bet the farm on some miracle ‘23 team. Just a bowl game would be a great accomplishment!
  13. Young man can play fb. Not an amazing anything but he can do about everything. Truly ‘all purpose’. Great backup kicker, etc. nifty chip n roll punting and squib kicker. Plays hard and likes to block. Not speedy but plays tough for his size. Add 25 lbs and be a FB maybe.
  14. Well. Raiola is ‘24. We will need at least 5. You need a runner and a passer for scout team work. You need 3 ready to play all the time. I’d guess some will leave but not from the top three hopefully. After spring camp, a couple may decide to move. We don’t know which and frankly neither does Rhule I’d guess. He has lots of film but I’m sure he’s a hands on, personal decider and won’t eliminate guys without a chance for all to show themselves. We don’t need 8 or nine QBs on scholarship but we want to weed out the bottoms not the middles. We don’t know yet on Casey or Raiola or any of them. If your offense depends so heavily of having a great QB, you got to have a bunch.
  15. I’m thinking CT tries after another surgery. With Sims and Hornsby, that gives us 4 (counting Purdy) to find 2 that can play decent by fall. The QB coach has his work cut out for him if CT doesn’t get well by June1. Guess we will see. Probably the race for 1st QB is wide open but there is some talent to start year one. Year one is just the beginning of a several years rebuild. Even with 6-8 wins it is a long road back to relevance.
  16. Say we get 32 and just half of them play next fall, and we can retain 12-15 starters and a dozen more of the three-deep. That’s got to help us to 3-4 more wins this fall.
  17. Whoo! Looks like this class is ballooning into quite a big group of football players. Between a strong bunch of HS commits to sign in a few days, we are cherry picking some pretty nice fitting portals. If the big guys on the lines come in, I’m gonna be feeling very pleased. I know the inks not even on paper but the momentum looks good. About 6-7 more dominos to fall and the Huskers will have a heck of start to getting better. It seems to me we are getting speed, hitters, and filling areas of need. Man, if he can get about 35, that’s a monster addition. That NIL $ better be coming in a convoy!
  18. So, 95% think Rhule is the right guy but 75% also think he will fail. Hm. ? Hard to reconcile that.
  19. I know his speed (11.2 hundred) doesn’t merit a scholarship but his video suggests he can really play. I think they’ll be happy to have him. I wish they had his coach lined up. It may be that Mickey can work his legal mess out (we still don’t know what actually happened). The facts / details matter. I’m sure Rhule will get his staff finished but he needs to shore up the QB spot assuming we don’t have everybody back and lost Watson. Apparently Purdy never got ready (reasons ?) and Watson was a Whipple guy. Don’t think the Kearney products have impressed any of the coaches much or we’d have seen them by now. These issues make WRs and QBs hard to reel in. I have a good vibe about Rhule but the situation is very dicey. To be expected (the passing game guru was the architect) but his ‘legacy’ may haunt us for years to come.
  20. I’m not sure about this one. Not much to see or read. #s not special. Kind of thin. Maybe he’s kind of being thot of as an athlete (CB, Receiver though we have enough i thjnk, ??).
  21. He can track and FB. He can be a Husker.
  22. He runs. Not sure he is 6-5 220lbs. But ? He can be developed if his numbers are correct.
