  1. I agree completely with the only restraint being stay within the budget. TA and Nebraska are 100% supporting Frost but at the same time they are "marketing" to existing coaches in the event Frost doesn't get it done next year. They will show that they are giving their coach every chance to succeed. If they make choices for a struggling coach, a lot of finger pointing could happen if he fails. If coach makes his own choices, the only finger left to point is the thumb.
  2. IMO the last thing we want is our athletic director choosing assistants again. That has failed miserably in the past. Love him or hate him, Frost is the coach for another 12 months so this hire has to be someone he wants.
  3. Good for him but may be bad for Nebraska. I was honestly hoping he would stay out of the headlines. Too many programs are looking for head coaches right now. The chain reactions that take place over the next 6 weeks will be a circus and any assistant that has performed well this year will be looked at to fill some of the openings created. I would be very surprised if he doesn't receive offers. I think he would have to seriously consider anything reasonable given the situation. He is losing some studs on defense and he will be looking at a lot of additional pressure next year since Frost's job will really be on the line. Fair chance we are hiring an entire new staff in a few weeks.
  4. Nothing will change the disappointing past but I do agree, looking around at our historical peers can provide some understanding. College football today is more difficult than it ever has been. People who are really good at their jobs, with the best of intentions, are failing at an all time rate.
  5. Nebraska 17 Wisconsin 14 Last minute field goal gets the win... Rushing - 189 Passing - 232
  6. Not directing specifically at you but to all trying to make sense of the situation. Pretending something didn't happen doesn't make Nebraska better or worse. People can cherry pick stats to make things look one way or the other but it doesn't solve anything or change that we are a good team with a 3-7 record. Nebraska has done a lot of things right this year but they did just enough bad things to lose 7 games, 4 or 5 of which they had no business losing.
  7. Pretty fair point that not many people know.
  8. Nebraska made the right move for several reasons. They are saving millions. They are removing the narrative that Nebraska fires coaches too quickly. They are giving the home town guy every opportunity possible to succeed. All that leads to making the Nebraska job a lot more desirable to coaching prospects if we have to eventually pull the plug. Of course it's a very slim chance this will work. Almost everyone knows that.
  9. Nebraska fans are such suckers for click bait... smh. We have improved on special teams considerably since Dawson started coaching them. If our kicker makes his kicks this year, our punter didn't kick the wrong way, and Cam did what was asked of him, ST would have actually been a strength. Frost acknowledged that the specialists were the problem and that was obvious. Plenty of teams out there with a dedicated coach that stink at ST. There are also a lot of teams without a dedicated ST coach who seem to be great at ST. The specialists are generally what separates them. I'm not sure if some of you understand that 99% of ST coaches do not coach how to kick a field goal or how to punt a football. Here is quick article that some of you should read- https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/why-dont-college-football-staffs-have-kicking-punting-coaches/ For the record, I do think a dedicated ST coach would be good. However, I don't believe that will make or break 2022 and or Frosts ability to retain his job in the future.
  10. No wonder SI is failing. Regardless of topic, this guy is a terrible writer. Reminds me of rookie journalists who post to Bleacher Report trying to get a job.
  11. Scott firing his offensive staff has a lot more to do with him saving his job than it does him thinking we need to change scheme. We are not going to an old school power run scheme like some here suggest.
  12. I question our ability to attract currently employed top level assistants. It will be obvious to all that Scott's position with Nebraska hinges on next years performance. Why would someone currently performing well in their current job want to take the gamble of one and done at Nebraska? Our only chance to do so would be if Trev is a big part of selling the job.
  13. Nothing wrong with our offensive scheme if we quit shooting ourselves in the foot. We have a V10 with a couple bad injectors- lets not put an old Iowa V6 with a carburetor in to "fix it".
  14. You fire the assistants now for 3 reasons- 1- You don't send guys out recruiting during the bye week to develop relationships with potential future recruits when you don't plan on them coaching next season. 2- You waited until after the OSU game because if Nebraska would have pulled off the win, you keep the staff in tact to see if they can complete the turn around. Once that didn't happen, the season is a bust. Scott is still in charge of the offense, and let's be honest, can it get a lot worse? My guess is they actually play a little better- the stress and pressure have been removed. 3- Firing assistants now allows Nebraska to focus on recruiting assistants during the bye week.
  15. Having a semi normal schedule vs what some are calling easiest schedule in 10 years... Smh. Next year is FAR from our easiest in a decade. That said, winning record would be the bare minimum for me. I kind of think the timing of these staff changes bought Frost time this year, which I don't like. It feels like his hand was forced. However, it makes sense not to send those guys out recruiting this week if you are canning them.
  16. 4 years of losing*. This year they have actually played some pretty good football in many of the games. Again, I'm not convinced either way yet. I know many of the loudest voices are, and that's understandable. I agree there are a pile of concerns and I'm not sure Frost and staff can fix them. However, if Trev and the other Nebraska leadership want him back for another year, I can understand why and I'll support the team like it's 1995. GBR
  17. I never said that. This thread is discussing what the pros and cons are. Follow along. These next two games will answer some of the pro and con questions. If we win the next two, there are a lot fewer cons if Frost stays. If we lose them, and Nebraska keeps Frost another year, the list gets pretty long, specifically in recruiting, negative media, etc... There is a strong likelihood Frost stays another year. Not saying I agree or disagree but, like most, I do have concerns.
  18. I think this question can be answered better after we see the next two games. The pros and cons change based on those results imo.
  19. The steak isn't about that. I could care less what a fan of another team thinks. The streak is about having a lot of people show up to cheer our team on, no matter what. We still do that better than anyone else in the nation.
  20. You guys quitting on the program can kiss off. Entitled cry baby whiners. You are either a fan or not, in bad times and good. Support those kids. I'm on the fence about a coach change but would never consider quitting on the program. There may be some coaches or players letting you down but they are a small percentage of the whole. The rest deserve your support. GBR
  21. We are getting a lot of love from announcers on national radio.
  22. 1- That Nebraska and Frost turn a corner? It's improbable but that is almost always the case with program changing turning points. 2- That TA and Nebraska decide to part ways with Frost? Again, improbable but some expect it might happen. I'll be watching and cheering either way during what could be a huge day for Nebraska football. GBR!!
  23. I was typing that when you posted- spot on. Michigan State isn't great and will probably finish well outside the top 10. But they will be a 10+ win team who won they games they should win. Nebraska could have been an 8-10 win team this year.
  24. I just don't see Urban or Stoops taking the gamble coaching here. Why take a chance at potentially tarnishing your career at Nebraska? Neither guy should need the money and if either wanted a college job, there are other openings that provide an easier path to success imo. Don't get me wrong, I'm not excited about Clawson. I just think hiring an experienced guy who has successfully conducted 2+ rebuilds would make the most sense.
