Lavonte David vs. Terrell Farley vs. Demorrio Williams
Hans Gruber replied to Hans Gruber's topic in Husker Football
I went with David. May be recency bias. -
Lavonte David vs. Terrell Farley vs. Demorrio Williams
Hans Gruber posted a topic in Husker Football
I don't see any of these polls on defensive players. Who are you taking among the play-making outside linebackers of the last 25 years? -
Paul and it isn't close. He's still in the NFL almost a decade later. He also was a good returner.
-
Swift. He was bigger, faster and less injury prone.

Scott Frost vs Eric Crouch vs Turner Gill
Hans Gruber replied to Boy of the Corn's topic in Husker Football
I voted Frost. Part of the reason is he was just a bigger guy than the other two and was built to handle taking a beating. Over the last decade or so, we've seen how important it can be to have durable QBs. Plus, Frost is the only one of those three to win a national title as a starter. -
While I love talking and discussing games in the offseason, I think it's a bad idea to start thinking a 4-8 team without a starting QB is going to go on the road next season and get a top 25 win. Could it happen? Absolutely. Will it? I don't know. Let's see who Nebraska is starting at QB first.

With limited media coverage of practice...
Hans Gruber replied to teachercd's topic in Husker Football
I don't want to wade too deep into this, but it doesn't have to be all or nothing. It would be possible to have media at one or two practices, maybe not even even an entire practice, without ruining every secret that the coaches have up their sleeve. Example. The media goes to one practice for roughly 40 minutes during position drills. Two weeks later, the media is there for a scrimmage. Nebraska runs 120 plays during the scrimmage, but the media is only there for 30-40 plays. NOTE: This doesn't necessarily mean I'm upset with how spring practice is being run or how much media availability there is. -
I'll give anyone that picked golf the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I didn't pick mine based off money. I just based it off of what would be cool to brag about. You could play pickup basketball into your late 30s or early 40s. It didn't specifically say you could dunk over someone, but it didn't say you couldn't either. Dunking on someone in a pickup game would give you more "street cred" among your friends than any of the other three.

Picked Gebbia. Came eerily close to picking Frost.

Duval's conditioning starts Monday. UCF players share.

If Dave was a lawyer, he sounds like the kind that would say, "See, my client only robbed those three banks, not the 11 he was originally charged with. Real bad job on your part making people think he was a bad guy." -
OWH 6 part series on Scott Frost
Hans Gruber replied to Thurston from Pender's topic in Husker Football
The Frost series is part of the World Herald's new subscriber plus thing. I would imagine they are going to start making numerous football articles subscriber plus. Probably not game stories or practice reports, but I bet most recruiting stuff becomes subscriber plus. I also wouldn't be shocked if a bunch of the spring practice stuff is subscriber plus. Edit: I didn't plan on saying subscriber plus in every sentence. -
Hopefully it works out. It's been far too long since Nebraska has had a good center. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but I think Jacob Hickman was the last good center for Nebraska. And it wasn't like he was great or anything. Ironically he may have been the last good offensive lineman from California too.

I like Cornhuskers on first reference and then Huskers after that to keep things short.

OWH 6 part series on Scott Frost

I liked part one. Looking forward to the rest. -
SIGNED OLB Garrett Nelson [Nebraska- Signed LOI]
Hans Gruber replied to Mavric's topic in 2019 Profiles
That's cool. It's always nice to see kids excel in multiple sports. And I always like defensive players that are good wrestlers. -
Which position group makes the biggest jump next year?
Hans Gruber replied to ADS's topic in Husker Football
Linebackers. I think there is some talent already there. Throw in Honas and Tannor as new guys looking to make a mark along with some dudes coming off a redshirt season and by George, i thinks the LBs will actually be pleasant to watch next year. If we were saying over next three years, then I'd say offensive line. I think the OL makes some improvements this fall, but the big jump is between year one and year two. -
If Graves and Lee can rush the passer, then I'd say they're worth a strong look. Whether they play DE or OLB, Nebraska needs pass rushers. Even if guys currently on the roster pan out as pass rushers, you can always use more.

This year seems tougher than other years. That's a good thing too. 1: Adrian Martinez (QBs are important) 2: Maurice Washington (An explosive playmaker) 3: Caleb Tannor (A much-needed pass rusher) 4: Will Honas (I'm guessing he'll inject some toughness into the LB corps) 5: Cam Jones (An athletic DB with a chance to play early) 6: C.J. Smith (An athletic DB, part of the reason I put him here is based off his brother) Sleeper: David Alston (Playing a hunch, he ends up being a multi-year starter)

I agree. Notre Dame is never leaving the ACC. They literally get to have their cake and eat it too.

LB Javontae Jean-Baptiste [Ohio State - Signed LOI]
Hans Gruber replied to Mavric's topic in 2018 Profiles
Agreed. Those are the same two guys I've wanted the most. An explosive playmaker on offense and an edge rusher on defense. -
It is refreshing, but it's also worth noting that almost every defensive coordinator in history has claimed to bring an aggressive defense that would force turnovers. The bright side is that UCF did force a boat load of turnovers the past two seasons. The UCF defense also complimented the offense very well. Probably why they won so many games last year.

I don't have strong thoughts, but I guess I could throw out some opinions. Callahan was a better recruiter, IMHO. Callahan's teams improved each of his first three years. That 2006 team had some dudes. Even though they had five losses, four of those losses were to stacked USC, Texas, Oklahoma and Auburn teams. Riley played tougher schedules his first two years. Callahan's first two years were cakewalk schedules. Callahan and Riley both did have nasty schedules their final years, that's part of why they were fired. Ultimately, who was worse? I don't know. I'd rather have Frost anyways.
