  1. For the 4 down lineman, based on what? I know people want us to run this more, but I haven't seen it be much different when we do. You have a better plan than Farniok? He's overmatched at times, but he's not costing us games or anything. And what are you talking about with the looking for the ball? Some of our guys do it better than others, but it really depends on the technique at the time. Haven't heard anything about reminding them to look for the ball. It's a shovel pass, it's basically a run. Don't get me wrong, the staff have made a lot of questionable calls. I just don't have problems with any of those specific examples other than the running game.
  2. Jack Dunn: Sunshine from Remember the Titans:
  3. This is the first I can remember on something like ESPN though - we're sick of hearing it from the local guys, but your average non-Nebraska fan on ESPN probably hasn't been beat over the head with it as much.
  4. But I remember one specific play he screwed up against Purdue! You can't tell me players are good when I have a handful of plays were they were bad! /s
  5. Can we at least put "injury" or something in these topic titles? Obviously it sucks, but I keep worrying it's the transfer portal. We've really run him into the ground. Hope he can get healthy, and when he's back other guys have stepped up enough that we can use him to the best of his abilities in space.
  6. This worries me. He's been good, and when he's healthy we haven't been playing Damion as much as I expected. In Ruud's interview, who is he talking about on the first question? Question was about the guy getting bigger so I assume it's a young guy, but his response was mentioning he was cutting fat and working on his diet rather than getting 'bigger.' Just can't hear who it was, but I'm assuming not Henrich because he doesn't seem to have a body type that needs reshaped, just bulked up.
  7. That wasn't the last touchdown, and the missed tackles and assignments are more responsible for us losing than guys not hustling.
  8. I also assume he knows how to count, but when the RB comes out for a single play I don't know that they run and ask him who should go in. And when the playcall doesn't involve the RB, I don't think it's crazy he wouldn't have noticed Rahmir being out there for a play. But Frost either forgot or didn't realize Rahmir had been in one of the games, so I'm assuming Held told him to run out there - just curious if that's actually the case.
  9. Yeah, I mean I didn't need that quote to be worried but it sums up the problems pretty well. And the don't seem to be problems we're well equipped to address. Ruud had an interesting quote last year too, someone asked if it was easier to prepare the LBs for a "simple" power run team instead of a spread one. He mentioned the difficulty of not only the shifts and everything, but how fullbacks and TEs inserting add gaps - so maybe a guy had the C gap but he also needs to know which side of the gap to attack when a FB comes barreling through. The communication better be there (which could be fixed over a bye week in theory) as well as the understanding (less likely to have been fixed).
  10. Does anyone know who actually makes the call on which players go in? The fact that Frost didn't seem to realize Rahmir had been used against Purdue makes me think ti's the individual position coaches. That's the only one that actually makes me mad, the others I'm willing to believe they haven't been ready.
  11. 6 wins in year 3? I'm not getting too caught up in the exact years. There just aren't that many blue-blood rebuilds to point to for similarities and differences. The point is they were back to not good even in year 3, had a big jump shortly thereafter, then a steady rise to dominance.
  12. Yeah, Wisconsin and Iowa are where we need dline depth the most. Also helps that both guys have had longer to learn the defense now - Green in particular came late to fall camp I believe. We definitely get more length with those guys on the field.
  13. You know, you could just put "I hate Lamar Jackson" in your signature to avoid working it into every post you make. Other than that - I agree with you. A lot of our guys are flying around, they need to be flying to their assignments though. That's the biggest issue currently.
  14. Yeah, he was a 3 for 2. Didn't redshirt at the juco.
  15. Yeah, I don't think it was another tear or anything but from what I heard he had a setback and won't play this year.
  16. If he runs anywhere close to the 4.38 he claims on his Hudl, I'm in.
  17. Yeah, it's possible. I'm not claiming Chinander is as good a DC as Pelini or anything, I just think a lot of our current issues come down to players more than scheme. Plenty of blame for both though, and obviously I can't prove Suh would've made a huge difference on the current defense.
  18. Right, and it's not like the staff doesn't know that. So if they're not playing younger guys, it's because in the staff's estimation they're not an improvement on the current guys yet. I assume that's why he's on the depth chart now. Why it took so long to try that, I don't know.
  19. More specifically, I'd say: QB - McCaffrey - probably, if we need him. Our QBs are always dinged up. RB - Johnson hopefully just in 1 more, and it'll probably be a single play or something dumb. WR - I'm sure Chase will play another one or two, but from what I've heard Nance and Houston are still on the scout team so doubt it for them. TE/WR - Hickman seems to be in line to play, he's got 2 games he can use. OL - Maaaybe Benhart/Piper, but I'd guess only if there's an injury. DL - Keem Green should play in all 3, not a freshman though. I'd love to see Robinson, but again probably an injury or blowout of MAryland thing. LB - Dear Lord I hope so for Henrich and Hannah. But again, feels like only for injury/blowout, maybe special teams. DB - They've thrown the DBs out for a game or two each on special teams, I expect more of the same. Would be pleasantly surprised to see them on defense but don't expect to. If we think we can win, the issue is a freshman not knowing what to do and giving up a back breaking play. Our upperclassman are good enough at doing that, so if it's a higher risk I get the aversion. Frost talked about our narrow margin for error because of talent earlier in the year - if we had more margin for error, I think they would work more freshmen in.
  20. Depends on if the coaches think they can help us win. I know it seems like a longshot, but if we can pull 2 out of 3 the bowl practices/game would be a much bigger benefit than throwing them out for a couple series against Maryland. I think we'll see some, but they haven't given up on the season to the point where they'll just try guys they don't think are ready.
  21. Nah. There's talent, it's just young talent. I don't buy that they could pull more recruits if they weren't focused on the bowl, they get plenty of time anyway. And even if they could pull one or two better guys, I think the time is better served developing the young guys in bowl practices.
  22. A lot IMO. I mean he doesn't immediately make it 2009 again, but a generational talent has a significant impact on a defense. I don't think we're talking about manufacturing a pass rush if Suh was on this team, and he could make up for the LBs at times. Our dline does a good job filling their gaps. Suh filled gaps and could clothesline the RB going through the next gap over.
  23. I'd say Illinois. I know at the time we were all disappointed it took a comeback, but they're better than expected and we had every reason to lose that game.
  24. Martinez Heisman 2020 confirmed!
  25. Yeah, the key to beating Wisconsin is the defense performing. The key to beating Iowa is the offense performing. Despite my belief that Chinander does have the defense improving and the weird struggles of the offense, I have much more faith in the offense showing up.
