  1. They've got games to burn, I'm hoping we see them the next 3 weeks in the rotation. I doubt it, but it would be nice.
  2. Banker had 2 bad games that year, they just both happened to be embarrassing blowouts. I think you'll find most of us defending Chinander would agree that we should not have fired Banker, so I don't know what your point is. The only reason I'm glad we fired Banker is we might've scratched together 7 wins in 2017 and kept Riley another year. Say Frost stays at UCF that offseason, and they go undefeated again like they did with Heupel. At that point, would Frost even leave UCF?
  3. I wondered if Bryson would play, saw he got hurt last week. Tough break, I can't really fault him for going to Wisconsin especially considering how we recruited him. I'm sure he would've loved playing in front of the hometown crowd. As bad as I feel about him being hurt, it's a significant boost to any upset chance we have. They don't have a lot of NT depth.
  4. Oooh, I like that. Has the size, and probably still has enough speed because he's not 240-250 yet.
  5. But Blake Lawrence said it was Lamar's fault! I love Jojo, but he is a little reckless at times.
  6. I don't care about our offensive stats in blowout loses, or hypotheticals that would make other teams numbers look better/worse. If we're talking about firing a guy whose only job is the defense, you don't put the offensive shortcomings on him. Yes, at the end of the day winning is what matters. But at the same time you have angry fans here saying the defense is entirely to blame because the offense shouldn't "have to outscore people." If we're talking about the Defensive Coordinator, what are you using to decide he should or shouldn't be fired? The things he does have direct responsibility for (defensive performance), or the things he doesn't (our side of the scoreboard, game management decisions, etc)? It is not logically consistent to say defensive numbers be damned, the scoreboard is all that matters and then fire one guy who is only responsible for part of it. If it comes down to the scoreboard and no stats are relevant, it's the head coach or no one.
  7. I'm not arguing that we've improved by leaps and bounds. I'm arguing that our situation isn't even close to Minnesota's despite people claiming the piece of their 'model' we need to follow is firing the DC. You can fire a guy in year 2 is things are clearly going backwards. You don't fire him in year 2 if they're not moving as fast as you think they should.
  8. Yeah, it's not like he's wrong. Hopefully motivation for our guys, but it has not been a rivalry.
  9. I about have these memorized because people love to ignore facts that don't support their claims. 2017 (pre-Chinander): 36.4 ppg (116th) 2018: 31.3 ppg (88th) 2019 (so far): 29.1 ppg (79th) Again, not as fast as we want but still improving. And given the injuries and lack of depth this year, I'm betting on a bigger improvement next year. The example people keep bring up is Minnesota. They went from: 2016 (pre-Robb Smith): 22.1 ppg (22nd) 2017: 22.8 (36th) - not bad yet! 2018 (before he was fired): 31.8 (92nd) If you can explain to me why you think giving up 9 points more per game and dropping 70 ranks is the same as giving up 7 less per game and rising 37 ranks, I will agree we should fire Chinander.
  10. Because the defense has measurably improved his 2 years here? There's no "proof" either way. If the defense gets worse, Frost will eventually fire Chinander. It has gotten better (slower than anyone would like), and Chinander probably gets 3 years even if it stays the same. He's not untouchable, but as long as the defense isn't actively getting worse Chins will be at least through here next year. You don't have to agree with that decision, but they've talked about staff continuity and believing in them completely too much to turn around and fire someone for not turning it around fast enough.
  11. You and I remember Cosgrove very differently. This isn't good by any stretch, but 2007 was literally the worst P5 defense in the country. This one is middle of the pack.
  12. The old Minnesota DC took over a top-25 defense and turned them into one that was giving up 50+ points per game. Chinander took over a dumpster fire and has turned it into more of a trash can fire. You can have the opinion that Chinander isn't good and should be fired, but people need to stop claiming it's exactly the same as Minnesota.
  13. Has it though? Including the kicker's injuries, totally. But otherwise - kick return hasn't been good, and Armstrong punts great when there's no pressure and has a habit of shanking the important ones. But we blocked 2 punts against Purdue, and we haven't given up big returns that I can recall since Shenault's. I'm sure there have been one or two, but special teams is way down on my priority list.
  14. Year 3 for Fleck, year 4 for Lovie. Obviously wish Frost had done it faster, but I suspect we'll be quite a bit better next year. I might be deulsional though, we'll see.
  15. Had they talked to the trainers about their plans? Dude was never healthy.
  16. I agree with you on stats being misleading in general. You can almost always find some stat to try and back up your opinion. But we have other posters here insisting points allowed is the only stat that matters for the defense, and trying to throw out all others. So that has become the stat referenced for the defense at least. I will say a perfect example of misleading stats would be saying 2 QBs with the same YPA, # of INTs, and rushing yards and games played are at all similar. The difference in completion percentage is huge, and the number of attempts as well. 7 INTs in 199 attempts is not at all similar to 7 in 303 attempts. There are huge differences beyond the fact that one is winning and one is not. Obviously the real question is are we winning or not, but a lot of peoples' suggested fix is addressing the defense - so the defensive stats aren't meaningless.
  17. Good point on receiver, that's probably my biggest offensive concern next year. You can argue the guys we're losing haven't done much, but we haven't seen anything from the guys behind them either. I just think we only have one legitimate RB body this year, and it's Mills. I think we could've grabbed another one last year, and even if he wasn't a phenom he'd be somebody to stop Wan'Dale from getting killed and Rahmir from burning games for 1-3 plays. Mills seemed to have found something in the middle of this year than lost it again. But I think one of Morrison/Scott can pick up the offense quickly enough to contribute, and they're just better equipped to be more than change of pace backs. Also curious what Rahmir looks like with a year of S&C, from my understanding they want him as a true RB instead of the Duck-R deal.
  18. Sometimes I wish I could check out, but I make it like 2 days and then I'm back.
  19. I'm with you, but I think the younger players are significantly more talented in some cases. They will make mistakes, but watching guys like Sullivan/Lee/Barry just not be able to get to where they need to be shouldn't happen as much. And RB I'm only worried if Morrison/Scott don't make it. If the coaches had known Washington was going to flame out they would've signed another RB last year. Our guys last year were all long term other than Mills - Johnson needs size, Wan'Dale is doing what he can but is also undersized, and Thompkins has to heal. Scott and Morrison are both more physically ready, and presumable Johnson will be as well. Maybe even Thompkins. And if that's the case, Wan'Dale can play more receiver which is better for everyone.
  20. His lawyer must be pissed. First thing I would have told Young is let me handle this, do not comment or try to clarify anything.
  21. If I could pick one guy that we have a realistic shot at to include in this class, it would be him. ILB is a big need too, but I like the guys we signed last year and I think they'll step up. I don't see anyone on the current roster with a lot of pass rush upside - Tannor maybe.
  22. When I hear "family friend," I don't think of someone you've coincidentally only known since you were about to sign with a big time program as a 5 star recruit. Could be legit, but the specific timing of how long the family friend has been a family friend is pretty sketch.
  23. I don't know about coaching style specifically, but Frost is definitely angrier than TO in pressers. Although he has more reason to be.
